End of Coffee Card as we know it!

For what it's worth, I emailed Princess and received a reply that there will be new cards coming out. The free coffee will only be available for the sailing you are on. If the card still has punches left, it can be used on future sailings. Old cards already purchased will be honored for specialty coffee purchases.

If true, sounds fair.....

That sound very fair. You can use all punches that you have previously purchased, but if you want free coffee, you have to buy a card that is good for that cruise only.

Thanks suzyed - I think I explained it three or four times yet the same folks kept asking why I bought them.????? Think about it - I bought them with a BOGO coupon so they cost me $12 each plus tip. They are now selling for $31. It's like buying CCL stock at $18 and now it is worth $32. Unless the Company goes bankrupt they should refund me $31 plus tip for all my cards if I cannot us them.

And for those people that say I should just take it in stride please send me a check for ($31 + 15%) x 6 and I will mail you the cards postage free.

I am confused. Why should you get 31 dollars refunded if you only paid 12? Coffee cards are not an investment they hold no stock value. If you purchase something in a department store with a coupon and you return it I am sure you don’t expect to receive the higher price before the coupon was applied. I think Princess will just honor the UN punched previously purchased cards or exchange them for the new cards. I don’t by the coffee card because I don’t drink the specialty coffee and to me it is an inconvenience to have to go to the IC in the morning to get coffee just to bring to the buffet for breakfast. I wish Princess would include brewed coffee with the ultimate card that I always purchase for soft drinks and mocktails. It includes hot chocolate so I don’t understand why they wouldn’t include regular coffee.

Probably because nobody ever thought to do it once it was marketed to grownups instead of just kids.

Well I disagree, sorry!!! If I had waited to buy them I would have paid $31+. So, the current value is $31+. Simple math!!

Princess sold you a product at a reduced rate. If you choose to look at it as an investment then I have a bridge I can sell you. What Princess should do is pull up the your on board account for the sailing that you purchased the cards and refund you what you paid or exchange it for a current card that carries the new terms and conditions.

This thread has taken on a life of its own! So much assuming and speculating going on. Princess has made no announcement and already people are worrying about the what ifs and making threats. I have every confidence that IF there is a change in the coffee card Princess will find a way to satisfy the current card holders.

I agree Carolyn! :)

I'll exchange you my unused cards for your bridge!!!!

Don't forget, when I purchased them I purchased them as they toild me they were transferrable and could be used on another cruise until punched out.

This is true. However since there is no written policy to protect either the passenger or Princess it is only based on hearsay. The staff members who sold you the cards probably ended their contract with Princess by now. The easiest way to handle this would be for Princess to just swap out the unused cards until they are all redeemed no matter how long it takes. As for your offer I don't drink the specialty coffee so your expired cards are of no value to me. However, I would be happy to accept casino credit for that bridge. I might even be persuaded to throw in a toll booth.;)

I give up. Whatever you want to believe is OK with me.

BTW - there is a major bridge from Michigan to Canada that is privately owned and could be sold!! So, where is your bridge and what is the yearly profit ??? I may be interested if the ROI is good. However, I am not in agreement with your investment strategy so it probably would be a scam.

Also, simce there has been no official announcement from Princess and my TA has heard nothing, as of now it is all hearsay!!

I was worried about the next change Princess did after this coffee card change.

Now I know there is another thread about no more discounted fares from your TA. Now this is a big one. We are not talking a few dollar like the coffee card but hundreds of dollars differences. It looks like Princess does want you business anymore and they may not get it. We just became elite last yearend this year will cruise of 42 days.

This is what I have been wanting to hear. Let's hope the Princess e-mail is accurate, and this is the final resolution to the problem.

I am going to buy a coffee card to save myself from the hideous syrup based coffee that is served. I might drink a couple of lattes but will take full advantage of the brewed coffee...maybe even grab my hubby a cup. Princess could save themselves alot of grief over coffee if they served a decent cup as standard fare.

Yeah, but then they wouldn't be able to sell as many coffee cards! LOL

I agree that this whole thread would be moot if the cruise lines served decent coffee in the first place. I never understood why they don't. If they would try a little harder to please customers (like they used to) rather than nickel and dime them, many people would buy more cruises.

Also, in order for someone to use a card from a previous cruise, that means they had to sign up for another cruise. If Princess is selling repeat cruises for the price of a few cups of brewed coffee, why would they want to kill that golden goose?

Lots and lots of pressure to be more green and generate less garbage. All the cruise lines claim they don't dump garbage in the ocean while in international waters, but they've been caught on film numerous times doing just that.

Brewed coffee generates more garbage than the syrup concentrate.

(It's also less labor intensive to use the syrup.)

Thanks for emailing Princess & for sharing this info with us! :)

As I've said, I understand their desire to eliminate lifetime free brewed coffee with old coffee cards with at least 1 punch remaining which I'm sure was never their intention. I understand these changes & agree with you that it's fair to allow us to get the specialty coffee we purchased while eliminating free lifetime brewed coffee...works for me. :p

Then I'll decide whether to drink the free coffee, purchase brewed coffee (with or without a new card limited to that cruise) or to bring some Starbuck's VIA.
