m steve Posted October 31, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2011 with better ventilation from the casino and a bar so that smoke is dissipated outside the ship? I know they want the casino where everyone has to pass through to get somewhere else but the right equipment could do a lot the help the smoke allergic. I know in Japanese steak houses they have very strong vent system so you don't get bothered by all the cooking smoke. Many smokers are also very good bar customers. lettienets Posted October 31, 2011 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2011 I just got back from a 12 day Mediterranean cruise on the new Carnival Magic. It has a huge casino. Passing through it you could barely notice smoke so there must be something new to vent it. Many of us remarked that the air was very good for a casino. cmdchiefthom Posted October 31, 2011 #6 Share Posted October 31, 2011 NCL had a real smoke issue in its casino aboard the Epic last year. The casino occupies a large portion of deck 6 and the entire width of the ship. They brought several portable air handling units aboard which had some effect, however there were still tons of complaints voiced on the NCL boards. Apparently NCL heard the noise, and designed a permanent fix which by the time I cruised aboard the Epic in April, the problem had been fixed!;)

Another suggestion would be for HAL to "retrofit" the casino area by ENCLOSING the casino! :) Makes sense to me! ;)
KirkNC Posted November 1, 2011 #9 Share Posted November 1, 2011 I am sure they could increase the ventilation but I like X's solution better. Kirk

m steve Posted November 1, 2011 Author #11 Share Posted November 1, 2011 just better air handling can do the trick. Of course, some people aren't happy unless they take something away from others.
taxmantoo Posted November 1, 2011 #12 Share Posted November 1, 2011 Taking away what is already a dying privilege (no pun intended) from a few to enhance their own health as well as that of thousands of others is a small price to pay.
PirateShark Posted November 1, 2011 #13 Share Posted November 1, 2011 There are non-smokers who do like to gamble with a couple or more cocktails in the evening. I just don't understand why some think you must smoke in order to drink and gamble

Boytjie Posted November 2, 2011 #17 Share Posted November 2, 2011 Are you going to ask "PosterShark" in Post #13 the same question? No, because no exaggerated claim was made. I, for one, am a non-smoker that also like a few drinks so what PosterShark posted holds true. So, when are you going to back up what you claimed? ASIWISH Posted November 2, 2011 #18 Share Posted November 2, 2011 And was the casino onboard X Solstice, being non smoking, full of gamblers, as the general consensus seems to be that the majority of gamblers are smokers? This might help... In this study they have counted gamblers and smokers throughout the State of Nevada from the mega-resort casinos of Las Vegas to the tiny rural casinos and in grocery, drug and convenience stores. Overall they counted 17,723 gamblers and found that 1,335 of them were smoking. This calculates out to 22.6% of the gamblers were smokers using the method of Repace and Lowry to determine the number of smokers in a room. If anything, this method would overestimate the number of smokers. These numbers are very similar to results just published results showing that in 2005 approximately 20.9% of Americans smoke. http://www.njgasp.org/i_opinion_2006_NV_Gamblers_Who_Smoke_Report.pdf

Rare mightycruisequeen Posted November 2, 2011 #20 Share Posted November 2, 2011 Since Celebrity has one of the most restrictive smoking policies isn't it logical that most people in the casino would be non smokers? Most people everywhere are non-smokers.

In most of the bar stools you could sit next to a smoker and be OK (we're both former smokers but can't stand it now). At the tables, no problem unless a smoker was on the wrong side of you, they learned the airflow and sat where no one was bothered. Our Elks Club lounge also has one and non=smokers don't complain.
