Flooded cabin on Crown Princess

Host CJSKIDS

Recommended Posts

We had toilet problems on the Island last December. Fortunately, the toilets just did not work and did not spill water out into our cabin. It was a wide-spread outage affecting a large number of cabins on our corridor on the Plaza Deck as well as cabins three decks above us on the Emerald Deck.

I hope they get things fixed, because we'll be on the Crown in four and a half weeks. Our cabin is going to be on the Baja Deck on the same side of the ship and just a few cabins closer to the front.

I am in Cabin D328. and let me tell you, the hallway outside smells somewhat rancid.

We notified them of the wet carpet this morning and yet, at 5:20 PM it stills is wet. Wondering how our cabin will smell by tomorrow.

I emailed headquarters last night and they have made the ship aware that they are aware of the situation.

Good girl.:) Email them again and tell them to take a look at this thread.

I am getting ashamed of the staff on the Crown. Shame, shame:mad:

:eek::eek::eek: Where do I begin? So sorry this has happend to you. NO ONE should ever have to put up with this situation. Dinner - I think NOT. Maybe you should suggest to them that until this is fixed - you could just sleep in the spa.

This is not a slightly disappointing vacation - this is unhealthy and more:eek:. Princess - please do something for these people!!

Have them come and culture the water in the carpet to determine if it is growing any specific bacteria. This will be important should you get sick once you are off. Make sure they give you a copy of the report. Your doctor will be able to treat you with the right antibiotic if he/she knows what the cause is. Either the Medical Center or the Environmental Safety offices should be able to do this. You know they can test for Noro Virus, so they surely can test for bacteria. If you do get sick from it, Princess should be responsible for your medical expenses. But only if you document!

cjskids,

I really feel sorry for you, to have your vacation ruined this way.

I have a question. Is the problem limited to your cabin, or are other cabins in that general area affected? We are boarding this Saturday and will be just a few doors down from you. To late to change our plans and we would just like to prepared.

I have a cruise on the Crown coming up in February. Final payment is due in a few weeks. Based on the problems you're describing and how they are handling it, I'm seriously considering cancelling. Please continue to keep us informed.

I wouldn't cancel a cruise based on this situation because it could just as easily happen on another ship or another cruise line.

I'd bet that heads will roll when HQ finds out how the staff onboard has handled this problem & their lack of a good solution for it. I had a good cruise on the Crown last month & during the recent drydock they said they would have a big turnover in staff which isn't an excuse for their actions. After any discipline and/or retraining is done, I'd think that the Crown would have a greatly improved staff who would never repeat the treatment being received by the OP.

My heart goes out to you. It is very sad when a situation like this happens and spoils a much anticipated and well deserved vacation. Hopefully your cruise will somehow end on a positive note and compensation to your satisfaction. I had a plumbing problem on a RCCL ship. The problem was rectified in two hours and was given a partial future cruise credit. I will be on the ship in 10 days and my excitement level has been diminished :( by your unsettling news.

Well I just had a minor heart attack, we board the Crown in 10 days, we are in D228.

Anyways, I am very sorry you are having these issues, what was offered is totally unacceptable, while these things do happen, the line should take care of any damaged property and move you to another cabin.

Yes the ship may be sold out, but crew/entertainers can move.

I wouldn't be happy in this situation either but it could happen to any cabin. The system is a closed one and problems can happen at any time. I see no value though in posting on Facebook. I haven't heard any other complaints from the Crown this sailing. I wouldn't expect that the ship could give discounts on future trips but think you will probably get something when you get home.

Ruh-Roh...

We are hearing from one passenger from several thousand aboard...

I wonder how many other cabins on the Crown are having this same problem...it's just that CC is not in-the-loop...

Maybe the crew is not moving cjskids from her cabin because their situation is one of the least offensive going on...

I sure hope the call-outs to Princess Corporate and to their Facebook page (not a member) are reaching ears that can take real action here...

Well, not every passenger is a cruise critic member. It's a small percentage of the ship. And of those cruise critic members that are on a cruise, a small percentage of those post while on board.

So since it appears you will be boarding the Crown Princess when it comes back to port, why don't you post what happened on the cruise after the OP is on? Ask what other guests think to.

They have changed the carpets and are trying to dry the hall. The ship is totally full. I am curious what else you would expect them to do.

Well I would expect any damaged property to be replaced, a different cabin and a sorry.

It's actually not that hard to handle situations like this, but cruise lines in general seem to do a bad job of it.

Before someone jumps the gun.

I have 20 + years running hotels and casinos, stuff happens, the quick and easy way of dealing with a problem like this is to think ahead of what the guest needs and wants, if you overwhelm them with the response the only thing you end up with is guests for life.

Here is what I would of done.

Ship is sold out, move one of the visiting entertainers out of their cabin, they work in the industry, they understand.

Get the guests stuff moved into that cabin (after it has been cleaned).

Comp the couple a dinner at Sabatini's, the reason is, that dinner takes hours so you just bought yourself time.

Strip the cabin, replace the carpet, find out what was on the floor, replace what you can, have it in the new cabin ready for them after dinner.

post a $100 OBC to their account.

Above all, sit down (do not stand at the pursers desk) and explain everything to them.

After the carpet glue has had time to dry invite them to join you checking the cabin.

Move them back in.

Excluding shoes etc total cost is around $200 and 9/10 guests will be happy.

I hope the OP has spoken to someone in a position of authority. I would also suggest emailing HQ the details of the conversations with names, dates and specific details of the response. After each conversation I would email HQ. I do have allergies and asthma and under no circumstance could I tolerate this situation. I agree with the poster who stated that there are always a few empty cabins. Someone on this ship certainly has the authority to deal with this situation in a reasonable manner.

What would get me the most upset is the nauseous rancid smell in the hall and the glue smell! This sounds so unsanitary. We had a situation at work a few years ago where the toilets flooded our courtrooms and we were told it was a health hazard and we had to leave the building until it was all cleaned up and rendered safe to breath the air. Could you imagine in the OP was in an inside cabin, no fresh air from the outside? OMG:eek:
