Yes, it is buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sit anywhere you want. Weather permitting - it is nice to sit outside also. In the evening they dress up the outside for dinner dining. Lunch and Dinner menus change daily and are posted outside entry to Terrace Cafe. We really enjoy the buffet for dinners...check the menu daily. We change it up with Grand Dining Room which has a pretty extensive menu that does not change, but lots to choose from. And, of course, you will have your speciality restaurant bookings. Great food...sometimes a miss, but not a big deal...we will not starve. Hope this was some help.

Yes the Terrace is a buffet, the only thing is that you can't help yourself to the food, you walk around the serveries and ask for what you want and the staff serve it onto your plate. On Marina and Riviera there is also an area where they cook steaks, pasta, lobster etc etc to order for you.

The menu in the GDR is different every evening, but always excellent.

GDR for breakfast is much quieter than the buffet plus you do not have to hunt for a seat (but do not tell anyone);)

The Terrace menu for dinner will have some of the same items as the GDR plus other items

The Terrace has an omelet station for breakfast where you get made to order items, the grill on Marian & Riviera you can also get great cooked to order items, also a pasta station for cooked to order dishes

Lyn,

How can you say the GDR has a menu that does not change but is extensive? I agree it is extensive, but it also changes daily (unlike Polo and Toscana). That's one big reason that we tend to prefer GDR to Polo and Toscana. (I know many of you disagree with us, but that's how we feel.)

Yes, shorts, sandals and shirt are okay dress. We often ate dinner on the back deck after a long day of touring in the med. It was very warm but very enjoyable.

Okay, so the Terrace Cafe has an inside and outside component, that's good. It's the ultra-casual venue for dinner, right? Does casual mean a relaxed dress code?

AND let me add to all of the above, the food is some of the best at sea for a buffet--even for seated dining. Excellent!!! My favorite venue (as you can see). :p We have so much in formality at home, that this makes our O cruises a true "get-away" vacation with first class service and food.

Now, even tho you can do it, I don't think folks should wear shorts for dinner at anytime!!!!

I haven't been on Regatta since last year; just wanted to make sure: It does not have the "cook it for you" (steak, chops, fish) feature that Marina has on the Terrace, right?

No grill on the R-ships in the Terrace

Don't worry; most people don't wear shorts there, even in the Caribbean! My husband is ultra casual but even HE wears khakis or jeans plus a nice golf shirt. We're not talking Carnival here, after all! Of course, if shorts and dress shoes aren't your thing, there's always room service!

Lyn, I think Mura is referring to ME....Lola. Sorry for saying it is extensive, but never changes...ha. You guys remember and know so much that I really should not be commenting. You do have to give me the fact that the SPA MENU does not change on the left side of menu and there are some very good items listed. I guess when every time we are in GDR and I see Chicken Kiev I keep thinking the menu is the same, but yes they do change it up. Sorry. I always enjoy both your comments.

You are right the "Always available" items do not change on the GDR menu (Salmon steak, Roasted chicken & Steak Frites )

The SPA menu items however do change daily...they are usually a lighter (in calories) version of what is on the regular menu

Sorry to you both, I could have sworn I saw Lyn's handle on the message! My bad.

I know that many of you love, love, love the GDR but we thoroughly enjoy the Terrace for dinner. We head for the outdoor area and have had unbelievable views for dinner. Seriously, why be in the GDR when I can be outside saluting Malta or Copenhagen or Venice in the sunset. I can't have that at home, no matter how nice my deck is....and trust me, the food doesn't compare!! (and only 1 entree at my house for dinner!!)

At the Terrace, I can try a small scoop of many things, and by day 3, the chef seems to delight in tempting me with the choices. If it isn't crowded he takes the time to tell me how he prepares whatever I'm having. Imagine how awesome it is on a b2b when the staff greets us by name every night and stops by our table to chat...sigh....

Would you believe in Feb. we went on a 10 day cruise on Marina and only went to the GDR twice - once for breakfast (me, without husband) and once (both of us) for the lifeboat drill?! (The service wasn't so great during the lifeboat drill, though - and they sure didn't feed us enough!) I kept telling my husband that we HAD to eat dinner in the GDR at least once for variety (Terrace is his favorite place), but we never made it. Yep, Terrace is just fine for us - love being outside!

.

If everyone went to the Terrace where would you sit then ;)

Some people just like to be served at a table in the GDR & not jumping up to forage for food

Not really enjoy the company of the person(s) you are dining with when you have to get up every little bit to get more food

I prefer getting served most nights

YMMV

Somehow I've never thought of going to the Terrace for dinner on any O ship as "foraging" for food. I'm glad you enjoy the experience of being served but I was trying to respond to the OP questions about dining in the Terrace.

As for enjoying the company of my dining companion, we've been married a really long time, are early retirees, and love traveling with each other. We eat with each other almost every meal. I'm pretty sure going for a little something more/different at the Terrace (and usually bringing him back something) is not going to disrupt our bliss and besides, when I leave and then come back my glass/cup has always been refilled! We're very independent travelers and that extends to meal times as well.

If dining as we do on Terrace is "foraging" can I sign up for foraging for the rest of my life?

Just finished our first O cruise on the Riviera, and found the Terrace the perfect venue for dinner. We are Regent cruisers and the Terrace is far better than Regents La Veranda. There are so many more choices for dinner. I was able to eat light and healthy by eating the grilled fish and seafood. There are plenty of veggies to chose from, not to mention all the fruit available. My husband enjoyed the steaks and pastas made fresh while you wait.

The only draw backs for us was there were times when the outdoor seating was full and we had to sit inside. There also were a few men that appeared in shorts and flip flops which for us is a big no no. These same men were also seen in the casino dressed the same way! Sitting outside for us is the only way to go on a cruise.

We never had dinner in the main diningroom, we tried all the restaurants twice, but we did venture in the last day for breakfast as we thought it woud be quicker. The breakfast was served beautifully, and next summer we will eat breakfast there more often.

OK, so I guess we're tied for fewest times eating in the MDR (lifeboat drill doesn't count, as there was no food at that hour....)... although you had more times in the restaurants than we did, so overall our Terrace tally was probably higher than yours! I am an unusual cruiser, I guess - only went in the pool once on our last cruise, only walked in the spa to check it out, didn't order room service once, didn't go in the casino except to find my husband, didn't go to tea once, or buy a single drink. No fun, I am - although I sure do HAVE fun! Can you say "boring"?!

By the way, cbb, sometimes I feel like I'm foraging in the Terrace, although obviously it's an easy forage with lots of choices! I sometimes wonder what the servers think as all of us circle around like vultures, checking out every little thing! It must look amusing, or pathetic, after a while!
