Are GTY cabins ever assigned before final payment?

I booked a guarantee oceanview for a quick cruise in January. I only booked a few days ago so I'm not expecting it soon, but does it ever happen before final payment date? thanks for any input!

I booked about two weeks before final payment. Cabin assignment took place about three days later & I then called and got it moved to a better location:)

 

That's the only time I've tried guarantee bookings.

There are probably no rules when they assign the cabin ..... I had some assigned shortly before the start of the cruise and one assigned shortly after booking and about 4 months before the start of the cruise.

Haven't booked a gty with RCCL but I have with other lines and only once (on Carnival) did I have to wait until boarding day for my cabin assignment.

I did a guarantee on Princess and it took forever to get a room assigned. It only took a couple of days on RCCL.

Thanks. I've never done a guarantee before buy the price was a made it sort of a no-brainer. I'll keep checking.

It happened for me.

I often see decent gty deals after final payment, so often book (or upgrade to) gty after final payment.

Booked an inside gty on the Liberty about a month ago. Just got my assignment a few days ago.

 

The only time I did not receive a room assignment was on Carnival Paradise and Glory and had to get my room number at the pier.

we have had them (on RCI) assigned as early as 6 months prior to cruising:D

They can switch the cabin, but my experience and what I read here is that it is unlikely to happen.

Not a crazy question at all. Guarantee bookings are not offered on all sailings or categories. A guarantee category entitles you to any stateroom in the stated category or better. For example, a suite guarantee ("W") means you will get a Junior Suite or better. The guarantee is usually cheaper than selecting a specific stateroom number because they can put you anywhere in that category or better. So if you don't care what stateroom number you get, as long as it's within (or better than) a specific category, then a guarantee would be a good choice.

Once you get assigned a stateroom...you can switch to another stateroom of your choice, at no additional cost, as long as it is in the same stateroom category that was assigned. We have done this a few times.:D

We have not booked a guarantee before, but we were booked in a deck 2 oceanview, so we figured we couldn't go anywhere but up. Hopefully we will get a better room than what we had, but even if we stay in the same area, it saved some money on this short cruise!
