Jonky Posted October 13, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 13, 2012 I've seen this question come up so I'm answering it here: There are so many great boardgames that you may have never heard of. Check out this site : boardgaming.com I would reccomend: For All Ages: Hey That's My Fish (this game is really small) Fluxx (wacky card game) Dixit (perfect game for a cruise, really fun) Adults and Smart children: Zombie Dice (small dice game) Bears! (small dice game) Quarriors (dice game with cards) Hive (small tile game) Pandemic (cooperative game) Lost Cities the Card Game Carcassonne Ticket to Ride (not small but a lot of re-playability) Ocean theme games: Survive Escape from Atlantis Forbidden Island (great family game, cooperative game) Aquaretto (good for young kids) Tobago Red November (very small game, cooperative) Long Games: Risk Legacy (awesome multi-game unique version of risk) Ghost Stories Elder Sign *The orange games are the 2 I most recommend

Katana_Geldar Posted October 13, 2012 #7 Share Posted October 13, 2012 My FH and I are gamers. We'll be taking Redshirts and maybe Settlers of Catan. I also recommend Munchkin, it's very easy for kids to pick up.
sherilyn70 Posted October 13, 2012 #8 Share Posted October 13, 2012 There are so many great boardgames that you may have never heard of.Check out this site : boardgaming.com Also check out http://boardgamegeek.com/ as it's an extremely popular site for reviews and information. I would reccomend:For All Ages: Hey That's My Fish (this game is really small) Fluxx (wacky card game) Dixit (perfect game for a cruise, really fun) Hey that's my fish is very popular with kids. Fluxx... varies based on what version your playing. Anything by Looney Labs is always great but they are a little bit hippy and some versions are not as kid friendly. Base version is excelent for all ages. Adults and Smart children:Zombie Dice (small dice game) Bears! (small dice game) Quarriors (dice game with cards) Hive (small tile game) Pandemic (cooperative game) Lost Cities the Card Game Carcassonne Ticket to Ride (not small but a lot of re-playability) Zombie Dice... gotta love Steve. He makes some great games is a nice guy also. I also recomend: Poo! (it's a wild poo flinging monkey card game that's sure to make everyone laugh) Zombie in My Pocket - (travel size as implied, cooperative dungeon crawling game) Munchkin (another Steve Jackson favorite of mine) Pass the Pigs (great for those that like to gamble points) Cards Against Humanity (very popular right now... but not for those that have no sense or humor or are politically correct) *The orange games are the 2 I most recommend

I also recommend Munchkin, it's very easy for kids to pick up. Definitely recommend Munchkin! A couple of expansions can make it go further, and up to 10 players or so. Carcassonne can be fun, but can be heavy, and can really use the expansion sets.
Jonky Posted October 13, 2012 Author #10 Share Posted October 13, 2012 Many ships carry board games of various types on board. Could thus save space in your luggage. I'm not a big fan of the games they usually carry. Although I do love scrabble. The games in my list are way better IMHO. (I run boardgame convention and website, so I'm kinda a connoisseur ;)) *Also, the games I mention are quite small. Most will fit in a regular purse. Definitely try Dixit. All you need are the cards you can keep score on a piece of paper.
Katana_Geldar Posted October 14, 2012 #11 Share Posted October 14, 2012 The games they have are rather mainstream. Scrabble, Monopoly, chess... Nothing busy enough and no euro games. I also recommend Kill Dr Lucky, a reverse Clue/Cluedo or Save Dr Lucky, which is set on the Titanic while it is sinking.
blutfort Posted October 14, 2012 #12 Share Posted October 14, 2012 Carcassone is our pick because the tiles don't blow in the wind when we play on deck. We have a travel edition of settlers that we bring too. We will bring Bang! But the cards don't play well on deck so we only play it in the game room or a table in the Buffett during off hours. I also recommend Kill Dr Lucky, a reverse Clue/Cluedo or Save Dr Lucky, which is set on the Titanic while it is sinking. That's how we feel as well. We much prefer games euro style games. Of course we're both gamers and even go to major gaming conventions so we have more exposure to these types of games. That's how I've met Steve Jackson and even played Evil Stevies Pirate Game (made from legos and played miniatures style) with him after years of being a fan of the game. SailBadtheSinner Posted October 14, 2012 #17 Share Posted October 14, 2012 Not a boardgame, but Cribbage is my favorite. A small travel board and a deck of cards is all you need, and I have them with me on any cruise. SBtS

cantw8togo Posted October 14, 2012 #20 Share Posted October 14, 2012 We sometimes take a book of board games that Klutz publishes. It has an interesting collection of games and includes all of the playing pieces in a convenient package. It is aimed at kids, but adults find it fun too. http://www.klutz.com/book/The-15-Greatest-Board-Games
