Missed port for Reflection

Currently onboard inaugural Caribbean cruise and slightly miffed at turning one of two stops into a sea day. We were scheduled to stop at Nassau on Thursday. The evening before we were told there was no dock available so could only call there from 6pm to midnight. No compensation would be offered. At 5pm Thursday it was announced we wouldn't be going at all due to weather, but free bar would run for an hour.

As elite, free bar means nothing as we have cocktail hours. Should I expect any OBC?

 

Also we cannot get into any speciality restaurant on any of the 3 nights as all completely full. Even butler couldn't arrange it. We paid a fair bit for a Celebrity suite and can't believe it's all sold out.

 

Those are our gripes. have to say though the ship is beautiful, food in MDR very good and service excellent.

Normally I would tell you not to expect any compensation as they have no obligation to do so but you are from the UK and there are special considerations that have to be met. Check with whoever you booked your cruise with when you return.

Sadly this happens from time to time. Even in the UK the terms of your contract are you are not entitled to anything. Could you not book Speciality before you sailed? You may be highlighting the dangers of leaving it until you board even in a suite. Certainly on a two night I would pre book before leaving home

 

Not sure I would expect OBC as an elite guest after all they did not need to do anything

Like UK Tog I don't know of any special consideration for Brits? Do tell!

All you can expect are the port charges to be refunded. Per the contract with Celebrity that is all they are obligated to do and it sounds like it was not a Celebrity issue if more than one ship was unable to dock.

 

I know we would be dissapointed if this had happened to us also, but this is a part of cruising that we know happens from time to time. Celebrity was under no obligation to offer even the free cocktails. They did at least do something even if it is not of benefit to you specifically.

Uktog did not say there were no considerations for UK cruisers, just that they may not apply in this case. I don't know all the considerations but there are certain things under UK and/or EU law that have to do with cancellations, guarantees, etc. Many have written about them on these boards. The cruises from the UK generally cost more because of these protections. I only referred the individual to whoever they booked with.

Why do people expect they deserve obc when they miss a port. Things can happen outside the control of the cruise line. Only thing you should receive are the port charges. Open bar was a nice suggestion even though its not for everyone. I do agree with you on the specialties. It happened to me on the 3 day on the Eclipse. is it me or do i sense a slight elite attitude? :-)

I just came back to the room from Customer Relations desk. Our refund for the postponed and then missed day in Nassau is the port charge of $15.00

 

Today was Coco Quay... the island itself was fairly nice; good hammocks in nice locations. The activity was a tad too clustered for me - we took the nature trail to the end of the island and it would have been nice to have something isolated to rest and relax at that place other than admiring the Caterpiller backhoe and dump truck. The BBQ lunch was amazingly underwhelming.

I don't expect or think I deserve OBC, I merely asked wether it was worth asking. From feedback, clearly it isn't. Problem solved. Yes in hindsight I should have reserved restaurants prior to sailing, it's just never happened that butler can't make reservations. Just surprised is all. But then I suppose there are many people cramming everything into 3 days. Whilst writing butler has confirmed Muranos for.... 5.30!

Murano's is good. Look for Sara from Portugal. She serves the bread and refills drinks. She is on her first contract and has the most pleasant personality and energy.

I would agree that the staff of Murano on the Reflection for this trip equally ties for first place with the staff on the Century during our August 2011 Alaska 14-nighter. Amazing service; anticipatory of needs before we need to ask and a delight to work with on food and wine selections.

Rory mentioned to me that the winds were too strong to make an approach to Nassau and that it was pouring rain... :(

 

I can understand your frustrations, especially on such a short cruise! Hopefully everything gets works out with credit where it is due :)

Kelly, it's an app for blogging really. Cruise critic is on there, very easy to use and follow.

 

Thankfully we are on the next cruise, so may yet get into other restaurants. Will try first thing after customs tomorrow!

 

I know all this may sound a bit petty, but some folks like the casino, some spa...we do wine and restaurants. It's what we love celebrity for.

 

I will just say that food in MDR has been superb.

Hi tallfellow, I have just returned from guest relations and they are refusing to give me the $15. Did you get this onboard? If so they asked me to get the cabin number you were in as they are saying nobody is getting the refund onboard. Many thanks.

If winds / currents / weather were the isue, then why on earth didn't the senior crew simply state just that instead of cooking up some '' no dock available before 6.00pm '' excuse ???:mad::( It's a stupid ''excuse'' as port calls are booked months ahead of time .

It's also an infuriating habit of many cruise lines to simply skirk around the truth which only lead to guests' displeasure...instead of telling it like it is .

As a European I´ve never got back any port fees (but the US pax did) for any missed port. I assume it´s because we don´t pay the port fees extra but they are included in our fare.

 

As Rory was stating they weren´t able to get in due to heavy winds X does count this as not their fault. So they don´t give any OBC. Their plan was to stop from 6 pm til midnight. But then they weren´t able to dock due to the weather...
