heatherandfred Posted March 1, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 1, 2013 I've never carried a purse on vacations and am wondering if I should. I have a small D & B purse and am wondering if I should bring it. Some days I wish I had one, just to carry my credit cards and money. What do you think
chees Posted March 1, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 1, 2013 I have to carry a purse since it has my chapstick (totally addicted), sunglasses, room key, migraine meds, visor, etc. But if you have been doing fine without it, no need to carry one. Langley Cruisers Posted March 1, 2013 #3 Share Posted March 1, 2013 Do you mean onboard a ship oir just in general while on vacation? The only time I will carry a purse (much to hubby's chagrin!!) is Formal Night. I need a small clutch to hold my make up essentials, etc. in case we want to have portraits taken. The rest of the cruise is casual for us and I do not use a purse onboard; I ask DH to please hold my SeaPass card, lip gloss, and my mints. :D In ports we use a small backpack/camera case and I put my things in my pockets. No purse in port, ever ever ever.
JediMom Posted March 1, 2013 #4 Share Posted March 1, 2013 I had a small white clutch that I carried my sea pass card, camera, lip gloss, chapstick and DS`s ipod (which was also my watch on board :) I would tuck the clutch in our knapsack for ports and around the pool so I wouldn`t lose anything. I used the white clutch most evenings, but formal night where I had a black one instead. Necessary, probably not as DH always had pockets. But I just prefer to carry my own *stuff*
Rare Scrapnana Posted March 1, 2013 #5 Share Posted March 1, 2013 If you have the space take the little purse. That way you have it if you need it and if you don't then you will know for the next time.
Ehpride Posted March 1, 2013 #6 Share Posted March 1, 2013 It is for me. I need to be able to carry my S&S card, lipstick, camera and eye drops at night. Even if there was someone with me who had pockets, I still want to be able to carry my own things. Plus, I consider it part of my outfit.
Laurie S. Posted March 1, 2013 #7 Share Posted March 1, 2013 I always carry a small one in the evenings, but never during the day on the ship.
Suitcasefull Posted March 1, 2013 #8 Share Posted March 1, 2013 I never carry a purse in "regular" life (only wear things with pockets) but will throw in a very small one to wear with dresses.
SadieN Posted March 1, 2013 #9 Share Posted March 1, 2013 Onboard my card is usually clipped to a belt loop or in a pocket. Rarely carry anything else. For port I use a bag. Size depends what we are doing.
luvscruising2007 Posted March 1, 2013 #10 Share Posted March 1, 2013 In port I use a drawstring back pack. It holds everything we need. On board ship I like to wear clothing with pockets. For formal night I purchased a little black wristlet. I also have a white one in case I need it other evenings.
Nebr.cruiser Posted March 1, 2013 #11 Share Posted March 1, 2013 I usually don't use a purse on board during the day, unless I know I will be needing more than just my cruise card. I have a very small silver purse, almost too small to be called a purse, that I use in the evenings for my glasses, a tissue, and a couple of other small things. Sometimes I use a small tote if going to lay out on deck for my Kindle, sunscreen, water bottle, etc. In port I have a small purse I can wear cross body that is just big enough for my camera, glasses and other essentials like credit cards and cash. I am hoarding it and only using it on vacations because I don't believe it is made anymore (I'm already on my second one) and it is so comfortable and handy and holds everything I need without being hard to carry. Daisyloo Posted March 1, 2013 #12 Share Posted March 1, 2013 I wear glasses for reading, especially in low light areas so I like to carry a purse to keep them in. Also my ship card, lipstick, gum, kleenex etc. I usually have a small cross body purse, just large enough to hold the above.
pmoniz Posted March 1, 2013 #13 Share Posted March 1, 2013 I always use my crossbody baggallini bag onboard to carry ship card, $1's, etc. But going to have to look for something a little bit bigger to carry my eye glasses!! Got to take those along with me this time around - UGH! So the hunt is on to find something not too big but big enough to fit a glass case in! CELTICGIRLCRUISER Posted March 1, 2013 #14 Share Posted March 1, 2013 A must for me as I need somewhere to put my bits and bobs, even if it is just one or three things.
heatherandfred Posted March 1, 2013 Author #15 Share Posted March 1, 2013 I'm actually bringing a neck pouch, so I don't necessarily need a purse. There I go, trying to pack more stuff in my luggage. Smh...
apey9995 Posted March 1, 2013 #16 Share Posted March 1, 2013 This is my cruisin' bag... I wear it cross body and its not bulky, but has room enough for room card, passport (in port), money, and even my camera (which is a compact, narrow camera) but works perfect for me! On formal nights I carry a clutch or wristlet. http://www.amazon.com/Vera-Bradley-Traveler-Crossbody-Folkloric/dp/B004PAHO1Y/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
cb at sea Posted March 1, 2013 #17 Share Posted March 1, 2013 I need my comb, lipstick and such....and your room key! I always carry a small purse, whether in a hotel or on a ship. Nothing big...no need for a wallet, checkbook, etc....but it's too far to go to the room/cabin everytime you want to fix your hair, or touch up lipstick! It's certainly not a hassle to carry a very small bag!
kitty9 Posted March 2, 2013 #18 Share Posted March 2, 2013 I don't have a choice. With all my allergies and asthma, I have to carry my inhaler and nasal spray.
Rare Lois R Posted March 2, 2013 #19 Share Posted March 2, 2013 I never carry a purse in "regular" life (only wear things with pockets) but will throw in a very small one to wear with dresses. Hi,:) I have a question for you. When you say you do not use one at home? Do you work? Do you drive? I am just curious really as there is no way for me to go out in my "regular life" without one. I have a wallet with my licensce, insurace card, AAA card, SS card, debit card and sometimes I even carry cash with me;) I have a small cell phone, (never got a smart phone), my car keys and a few other items that always go in my purse... (tissues, aleve, a comb, etc,).

Some days I wish I had one, just to carry my credit cards and money. What do you think Hi, necessaties are different for each of us.:) I sail solo and in the evenings I have a small crossbody bag I use ..my room key, camera, maybe some money if I am going to the casino. I have a couple of crossbody bags and they work great:) If I am dressing up on formal night? I use a dressy clutch. I know over the years I have read about many gals who give their stuff to there husband for him to hold but even if I had one (husband) I prefer to carry my own things. That is just me though...been on my own for most of my life so I just like keeping my own stuff;) So, it really depends on you and what you are comfortable doing:)

ME Guide Posted March 3, 2013 #22 Share Posted March 3, 2013 Helpful hint: If you carry a evening purse, make sure it does not have a magnetic closure because it will demagnitize your room key. I inherited many evening bags from my mum and grandmum and most had magnet button closures. I had problems with my room key and was told it was due to magnets...and realized it was the small closures. I also need a tote for my ""stuff" on days I head around the pool area. It is so much easier if I put lotion in clear large ziplock bags, my brush, tissues, chapstick, glasses in another zip bag and sort that way. I also like to bring a highlighter and post it notes in a bag so I can go through the daily activities paper and mark reminders about what we "don't want to miss". Do what is easiest for you. If you do not carry much, you won't need to think of a small purse or tote.
dulcimergirl Posted March 3, 2013 #23 Share Posted March 3, 2013 Never. I carry one on and off. I make sure everything I wear has pockets to tuck my Cruise card and lipstick into. Everything else is in the cabin. Even my "cruise sortaformal" wear has pockets.
