What time can I go to my cabin?

Recommended Posts

This is my first time sailing on Royal Caribbean. On my other cruises I have been able to bring my bags to the room when we board the ship, around 11:30 or so. Am I able to drop my smaller bags off at the room when we board?

Thanks!

Sorry, no. Hallways are locked until right around 1:00. We try to bring a minimum that we have to drag around (super duper large sized purse for me and a back pack for DH). At least there is no dragging luggage around. Although, on European cruises, we've had to lug around the "carry on" suitcases. No big deal really... We are on a ship...nothing much else matters...does it????:D

I recently read 2PM on cruises out of San Juan. Anyone know for sure if it's 1:00 or 2:00? We'll likely do sight-seeing in Old San Juan prior to boarding, but would like to eat a late lunch on board (hey...it's FREE!), so it would be nice to know when we can dump the bags in the cabin! Dragging around our carry-ons will be a pain!!

And since you have to wait until 1:00 to access your cabin - and your luggage - be sure to have in your carry-on bags (or packsacks, large purses, etc.) whatever items you may need in the meantime! That includes bathing suits for the pool :D.

Does RCI have a check room for carry-on? On NCL, they took my bag, gave me a claim check & I returned to pick it up when my cabin was available. Very convenient.

I've not seen any kind of check room on Royal. However, you've only got abbout 90 minutes at most from the time you board until your stateroom is ready.

Hi,

We bring a lock for our carry-on bags and when we drop our checked luggage to the porters, we leave our locked carry-on baggage as well. (This is when we fly to our departure port) Walking around the ship without dragging little suitcases is so much more enjoyable, lol

When we drive, I just bring a slighter bigger handbag for whatever extra I need.

Hope that helped. Happy Sails!

We have sailed on several cruises out of San Juan and Fort Lauderdale on RCI and have always been able to access our rooms around Noon or just a little later, it always depends on room steward. We always check -in and they are always accomodating and willing to meet our needs.

Yes Adventure out of San Juan is 2pm before you can get access to your room. Due largely to the fact they board a bit later than most. Can't say for Brilliance/jewel.

Personally I would never check all of my luggage. You never know when or if a bag will get lost. And we have had that happen once or twice and didn't get that bag for two days. I always have an outfit or two in my carryon bag and all of my cosmetics, electronics, medicines etc.

Once we traveled with a couple who checked every one of their bags and they didn't see them for several days. Even though the cruise line allowed them to buy some clothes in the ship's shop it was still an awful experience. They had no underwear (they don't sell that on a ship!) And she had no make-up or hair products.

Just sayin'.

It's not very long to carry around a rolling bag or large tote. We usually check bags, but might consider carry on this go round on our 4 nighter.

Once we traveled with a group and somehow one boy's bag didn't make it on the ship. Fortunately, there were other boys of similar ages in our group and they shared.

That is a great program NCL has going on. But no, RCI does not do it.

We've sailed out of San Juan the past three years and the rooms have been open at 1:00 all three times. We'll be getting on Brilliance in 9 days so I'll have more up-to-date information after that.

There is no way I would put certain items in the hands of the porters:

electronics (cameras, laptops, etc)

jewelry

medication

While it's nice to be able to walk around without any carry-on luggage, the consequences of loss or damage to these kinds of items are just too great.

Although it is not common knowledge, if you have a medical device (CPAP, etc) and it is fragile, you can ask the stateroom attendant to put it in the room for you early and they will escort you there and let you drop it off.

What I usually do is bring a beach soft beach bag in my luggage. Then I check everything except a bag with valuables, medicines and swimwear/sunscreen and my paperback. The previous posters are correct that it is not long (30-90 minutes) before you will have access to your room. It can be as late as 6pm before you get your luggage though.

YES we learned our lesson. On NV we got to the pier earlier than we normally would, so thought we would check our carry on, (after all, we are at the pier and don't want to lug them around for an hour and a half) So we just used a tote bag. WHAT A MISTAKE. One of the carry ons never made it . . .the one with the IPOD and camera of coarse.:mad:

If that's the worse thing that happens to her this year she should be well content.

Just sayin' ;)

Obviously:D!!

Actually the worst thing was they had no underwear except what they were wearing:eek: so it got washed every night!

And he is a big man so he couldn't borrow anyone else's clothes. The shop on the ship didn't carry anything his size.

We all shared with his wife so she could at least change her clothes

We were just on Navigator in February and they had a carry-on baggage check service - first time I've seen this! It was available in the Ixtapa lounge and you had to retrieve your bags by 1pm. We took advantage of this because we got on early and it was awesome not having to drag your bags around.:D
