Back from Bermuda on Summit - July 7 sail

Just a few notes for those who will be sailing on the Suimmit:

We arrived at Cape Liberty around 10:30 a.m. Parking is very easy - we had the free parking voucher for NJ residents. No lines and could have been on the ship by 11:00 a.m. I say could have because our son checked he had a cough on the medical form and had to be seen by the nurse before boarding. Oh my! Watch what you check on that form! He has allergies but said he wanted to be honest.

We had the Classic Drink package bonus and upgraded to Premium. The Pool Bar is exceptional - do try the Mango Rita. The Martini Bar is also very, very nice. Bar service throughout the ship was excellent from wine at dinner to my new favorite Mango Rita drink. Super service.

Dining: We ate in Blu for breakfast --- perfect, no other words could describe. Select dining - never had to wait, waiters could not do enough for us. We had two young children and the waiters catered to them beautifully. Normandy - my son said it was one of the top 10 meals he has ever had (he travels quite a bit and has been to some fine restaurants). I agree with him - such a lovely meal that turned into an event. Overall, we never had a bad meal on our cruise and all of us had different favorites.

Rooms: We were in a Celebrity Suite - not as nice as Reflection, but nice. A little larger I think; no lounge chair on balcony (guess I could have made a production about that - but, what the heck). If you cannot climb into a tall bath/shower, don't get this room. Otherwise, so nice, especially if traveling with children you want to keep with you.

The Ship: Our first time on Summit (we've only sailed S class ships). I found no problem with anything on the ship. Sure, some things were not brand new, would have liked to see cushions around pool/decks a little newer ........ but the ship is a fine vessel. And the staff tries very hard to please ........ and they succeed.

Rocking: Felt a little motion at each end of the ship but it was comparable to sailing the med ........ like glass.

Kids Club: Children are 6 and 9 ..... they enjoyed it and there were quite a few counselors for each group. The girls made friends that they saw throughout the ship and even in Bermuda.

Bermuda: We took the ferry to Hamilton on Wednesday evening for their Harbour Nights (ferry costs $4 each way and we paid on the ferry since the ticket booths were closed --- then bought a return ticket in Hamilton). All the stores were open and there were craft tents set up all over the streets. I'd do that again. We toured the entire island with David Fox and enjoyed his knowledge - I would recommend him. Dockside has lots to do from shopping; jet ski; bikes; tours. There is a free train shuttle directly in front of the ship.

~giggle~there were 2 people who had to run for the ship when we were leaving. All the people on the ship cheered them when they made it (with 0 minutes to spare). It was a moment to remember.

My daughter-in-law says Celebrity is like an adult Disneyland. Celebrity does do it well!

We are also cruising with (grand)kids, for the first time , and I was a little concerned. When I called Celeb to ask about the Kids Club, I was told that we couldn't have any info until we boarded the ship. We are going during the World Cup Match (7/28) and would really like to know What's The Deal so that we can make plans...

By the way did you go to Snorkel Park or the Aquarium with the kids? Ours are 4 and 6.

This is our first Celebrity cruise so I'm not familiar with the policies. I think some of those things are out of our range, like Blu...

Kids Club: You will be invited to visit the Kids Club shortly after you board. I don't remember the hours, but they are extensive. If you would like to have a quiet dinner, the children can have fun activities and even dinner in the Kids Club. You must sign the children in and out and that was monitored very closely. There is a daily schedule of activities so the children can choose what they would like to do. There were movies; a pirate party; a ship tour; dinner party; arts and crafts; games. Lots of counselors to monitor and organize.

Why we upgraded from classic to premium? Well, it was not very expensive and we had a ship credit that covered it. But mostly, the premium package took any worry of price away. With that said, I think it would be easy to enjoy many drinks with the classic package. It is a matter of taste and what you want. There is no pressure on the ship to upgrade.

Bounce, thanks for the review. We are sailing in a CS this Sunday. What deck were you on? Was eating breakfast in BLU a suite perk? I thought only people in AQ were able to eat breakfast in BLU? Any other perks for the CS? Thanks

Suites can eat in Blu for breakfast every day. You need to check with the Maitre'D if you want to have dinner.

We were on Deck 6 with connecting suites .... so our grandchildren could visit back and forth without going into the hallway. The CS are mid-ship .... a perfect location for getting anywhere on the ship. As said, suite guests may have breakfast in Blu and dinner is based on availability (ask your Butler if interested). We did not eat dinner in Blu because we had young children at our table for dinner and thought they would enjoy the action of the MDR (they did) and also wanted to be considerate of the quiet atmosphere in Blu.

Other perks: free laundry (you will like that); butler (nice, but who really cares); bathtub; afternoon treats delivered by your butler (grandchildren could not wait until he arrived ~giggle~); specialty dinner one evening (cost is normally $45 per person); VIP boarding (you will be directed to that area when you arrive); some coupons you might like to casino, bingo, etc.; there were other things ..... but mostly small items you may like. The perks are nice .... not sure they are worth the extra cost ..... but we like/need the extra room.

Thank you for responding. We are elite with Celebrity so some of the perks we would get anyway. I am just pleasantly surprised at the news that we can eat breakfast in Blu. Thanks for making my day!

Bounce: enjoyed your review. We've been to Bermuda a couple of times, but this is first time on the Summit. Leaving NJ September 1. I was interested in the Wednesday night "Harbour Night", as we had never seen that before when we were there. Is it something you do after dinner, and how late is it open? Sounds like fun, as we've only been to Hamilton once on the ferry. Spent most of our time at Kings' Wharf. Thank you for answering. Always great info on CC.

Great to read your review. I sailed with celebrity over 20 years ago on the horizon. This is my second cruise and we chose celebrity. I was seasick back then. Am I correct in interpreting that the ship had mild rolling?

Thanks
