Rare maxamize Posted August 10, 2013 #51 Share Posted August 10, 2013 We love Toscana and think Polo is not so special since you can order steaks and seafood in every other restaurant on the ship as well. Also loved Red Ginger and Jacques. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
Rare PaulMCO Posted August 10, 2013 #52 Share Posted August 10, 2013 Regarding the changes in Toscana and GDR, I'm somewhat puzzled. When they say they are increasing their sizes and adding more two-person tables, do they mean they are taking away from Polo's space in order to make Toscana physically larger, or is it just that there will be more two-person tables? Mura I second that for a different reason. They apparently squeezed more two person tables in the Terrace (indoors) on the "O" ships and it is really too tight. fjdelrio Posted August 10, 2013 #53 Share Posted August 10, 2013 In Toscana, we are eliminating the bar that is never used to create space for more tables for 2. In then GDR, we are eliminating the stage located port side aft that is also never used to create more space for tables. Correct, we will NEVER eliminate Toscana. JimandStan Posted August 11, 2013 #57 Share Posted August 11, 2013 I feel better now. Mura As do I, I was frightened right down to my OssoBuco , and my Pesto gnochi weren't too secure either- Combine these two for the Best, most consistent dinner on ANY of the five Oceania ships! wripro Posted August 11, 2013 #62 Share Posted August 11, 2013 Question to those who have sailed on the O ships and dined in Red Ginger and Jacques, then sailed on the R ships where they offered dishes from those restaurants in the GDR..... were they as well prepared and tasty as in the restaurants themselves on the O ships? pacheco18 Posted August 11, 2013 #63 Share Posted August 11, 2013 I only had one dish -- the sea bass from Red Ginger -- I did not think it was any different on Nautica than it was on Marina.
kiawahdon Posted August 12, 2013 #64 Share Posted August 12, 2013 Ok, call this snarky, but can we get back to the subject of this thread and focus on the details of the rehabs. Many posts ago I asked if anyone could tell me if staterooms other than Owners and Vista were getting any makeovers/attention in the drydocks. I was hoping FDR could shed some light on this question, but it seems the thread got wrapped up in gourmet dining favorites and non- issues. Since we are looking at an extended cruise, this is an important question. Hoping FDR is listening.
Mura Posted August 12, 2013 #65 Share Posted August 12, 2013 My impression -- and I have no insider knowledge -- was that the major work was for the OS and VS and not the lower suites. That doesn't mean they won't do some upgrading in other suites, just that they aren't planning major changes. At least that's the way I read the announcement. fjdelrio Posted August 12, 2013 #66 Share Posted August 12, 2013 Owners and Vista Suites get new bathrooms. ALL other staterooms will be refurbished/redecorated ( carpets, curtains, headboards, bedspreads, certain loose furniture, art) in the style and color schemes of the O-class ships. Rare PaulMCO Posted August 12, 2013 #70 Share Posted August 12, 2013 I hope they do not make redo Grand Bar. The wood and comfy furniture is nice. Unlike the whore house look of the "O" class Grand Bar.

Unlike the whore house look of the "O" class Grand Bar. Whatever your opinion of the decorations, Paul, the room which you are describing is the Casino Bar. The GRAND BAR on the O Class ships is the long Corridor which runs from Martini's to the Grand Dining Room. There isn't actually a "Bar" in the space... and it is actually quite elegant and restrained.

Agree that looks nice -- But the Riviera did not have the decor of your photo. It was a hideous black and white - leopard spot/zebra look that was awful. No color. Paul, I was going to ask - how is it that you know what a whore house looks like, but then I thought I'd better not....... :D Must be the "Hollywood" version of a whore house you are talking about. :) Paul
