Casino cash withdrawal fee has gone up.

Recommended Posts

I guess 5% is the new industry standard. It was 5% on Celebrity last year.

I don’t consider it “nickel and diming” as no one is forced to use the service.

If I want $200 for gaming, I don’t see a huge difference between $6(old fee) and $10 (new fee).

We’ve often had unused NON refundable cabin credit and I would gladly pay $5 to get $100, rather than leave the unused $100 .

Questions about this OBC while you all are on the subject... I booked my cruises with a travel agency online. I received OBC for each cruise. How do I find out if its refundable or non-refundable? And when looking in Royal Caribbeans 'My Cruises' info section should I be able to confirm the amounts there or not? I don't want to get on board and there be some mistake and they say 'oh no, you don't have OBC' when I should...

OBC received from RCI is non-refundable. OBC recevied from redeeming Visa Points, a TA, a gift from family/friends is refundable at Guest Services on the day prior to debarkation.

OBC from RCI will show up on your Confirmation Invoice. Any other OBC will not. All OBC should show up on your account by Day 2 of your cruise.

Patti, do you know anything about the OBC from shareholders? It comes from RCI but it doesn't show up on the confirmation. At least I don't think it does. I think it just shows up once on the ship.

That is one thing I liked about Carnival's on board system. Guest services will print out a statement that actually shows refundable or non-refundable directly beside the OBC listed. Or at least they did. It's been a couple of years since I've cruised one of their ships.

No fee & it just goes on your sea pass account as a misc. expense so it does not look like a cash advance to your credit card company.

Good way to get free cash & points on your credit card :O)

Just because you take it out doesn't mean you have to spend it all in the casino

And that is precisely why they started charging in the first place. This was becoming a wide-spread practice to rack up points.

OBC from Shareholder Benefits will show up on your Confirmation Invoice under Booking Charges in the form of a code. This was the code on our TA on Jewel last August SB08-$250 SGL-OBC

I only applied for it 4 days prior to sailing so I was lucky to get it at all. The confirmation came after the invoice was no longer available so that is apparently why I never saw it. Reyno printed the statement on the ship so I could see it was applied.

It's pretty hard to spend it on just a 3 night cruise with CL access.

So why did they raise it from 3% to 5%? AND take away the pens in the staterooms?

$$$$$ :D

Maybe they should charge $1 per person per cruise to cover the cost of the pens. But on no, they'd want to keep that $1, too.

Out of all the things RCI has done lately, can you tell it's the removal of the pens and paper from the staterooms that annoys me the most? I bet even motel 6 leaves a pen and paper in their rooms. And maybe not even a survey that needs to be filled out. And obviously not a customs declaration.

They can charge their 5% casino fee but no pens in a room is a bit low class to me.

For anybody who needs more than $100, the onboard ATM is now the better deal for cash, if it's working (I haven't looked in years, but it seldom was when I did). That's a $6 flat fee. Well, it was. If it's still there. Never mind....

Also, you can cash a regular check of up to $200 at Guest Services, once per voyage.

Neither of those help in recovering OBC, of course, but for somebody who needs cash for whatever reason, they are options...

I've seen broken ATMs more than not, too.

We only play slots, but like another poster wrote, earn a lot of points. This is why my husband was invited into the players club. Last cruise they gave him $300 when we boarded (went to the casino for this). We could opt to use this for a discount on our cruise, but chose get the money when we boarded. This cruise he will receive $ at the casino when we board. We've also gotten free drinks and of course, the discount for getting cash on our card. We carry a certain amt of cash with us, but it's always nice to have the option when on the ship to get cash at no additional cost. Good luck to those that will be enjoying the casino on your future cruise! PS, don't forget to insert your seapass into the machine if you plan to play a lot, so it can keep track of your points. There's also a few sea day mornings where you earn double points at the casino!

And people (do you remember who?) BRAGGED about it incessantly on CC.

This means that the ATM is a better deal now! ;)

Oops, I see that you posted this, too.

I have had the opposite experience from Gina. SOMETIMES I see an out-of-order sign, but usually they are working.

There is no MTD in the casino, wrong thread:rolleyes:

I think they asked that question because someone mentioned using the OBC to pay gratuities. If the MTD prepaid gratuity could be taken off, they could then be recharged each day as others are which would use up the OBC and not have people taking it out in the casino at a 5% charge. So....this isn't the wrong thread. You need to read the entire thread to make the connection to the question. Had the poster "quoted" that post about paying gratuities with the OBC it would have been easier for you.

Just bring CASH to gamble with and to use ashore. There should be no need to take funds from your shipboard account. Just bring the cash you need....you can store it in your cabin safe.

You missed the point...they were cashing out OBC they didn't use.

Lets see..I book and pay 3000.00 for a cruise and I am going to melt down over a 2 dollar extra charge during a hundred dollar casino withdrawal.....

Yup! It's that damn nickel & diming................ But the real problem is that they charge a fee (now 5%) for me to take cash that I will more than likely lose in their casino. Of course, this is after I have already lost all the cash (not a small amount) I brought with me to play with!
