Orator Posted September 10, 2013 #126 Share Posted September 10, 2013 There have always been lines when I get on from a port, so I would love to have the VIP entrance to avoid them. There are times when it actually takes longer for a VIP to board. DW and I have been "top cruiser" on a few cruises. We would usually stand in the line for Elites or AQ, or Suites if booked in that category. The agent went to secure our Seapass card and upon return informed us that we were to go to the Pier Coordinator. This happened in Ft Lauderdale, don't know how they do this in other ports. We were then directed to a lounge area and waited for an "escort" who took us to the ship. Once on board we were either taken or directed to Michael's Club. process took considerably longer than if we had just received our cards and went directly to the ship. I know that Arno and other frequent cruisers can provide more details.

When you commented about lines at ports I mistakenly took this to include the "port of embarkation where I've experienced lines. Oh well, perhaps some with less experience will find my post helpful. Or maybe not.

Don't know reason...could have been problem with the metal detectors or could just be the mass of people trying to get back at the same time. I look forward to the "red carpet" on our next cruise if it is available!

I look forward to the "red carpet" on our next cruise if it is available! Must be my luck. I'm either behind the person who has put their card back in their purse or pocket and has to dig it out again or the person who tries to walk through with their bags and purse. The bag and purse person tries to walk through, then is told their bags and purse have to go on the belt, they then put the bags on the belt and try to walk through again holding their purse. Then they are told their purse must go on the belt and we do it all over again. FYI, I'm usually behind these same people at the security line at the airport. Like I said, it is just my luck, so I can't wait to be a VIP, if I ever am on Celebrity, because I'll be dancing down that red carpet!!!
Iamcruzin Posted September 10, 2013 #132 Share Posted September 10, 2013 Maybe "no lines" is a perk to some people. Does it have to have a monetary value attached to it? I don't understand what the objections to this dedicated line are... There is no objection to there being a dedicated line for suite guests or MVP guests. The objection is that Celebrity is presenting it as a perk when the majority of the time it holds no value. Karynanne Posted September 10, 2013 #133 Share Posted September 10, 2013 Must be envious, otherwise why would any one bring it up or even care! Exactly. I would imagine that if given the choice of qualifying to take the VIP entrance, or stand in a long line...most would take the VIP line.

I get all this and am always behind someone at a store checkout who insists on paying with exact change, even if it means searching the bottom of the pocketbook just in case there is a penny there. I yearn for the store that says "exact change not accepted". I am also in favor of solving the lines at security points by having everyone strip naked. Bet that would speed things up. Iamcruzin Posted September 11, 2013 #136 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Isn't value in the eye of the beholder? Why would you object to something of no value to you? I guess for those who buy into it as a perk there is value I'm just not one of them. Again I'm not objecting to someone receiving the extra service if there is in fact a service being provided. Sent from my iPhone using the Cruise Critic App I'm sure many would agree that having a separate entrance sans any lines, or possible lines, is in fact a service. It just all depends on what one perceives as a service.

I'm just playing the Devil's Advocate in this situation.
jpthomas27 Posted September 11, 2013 #139 Share Posted September 11, 2013 If there were 100 people in line to board and you were a suite or VIP guest that was able to board before all of them... You wouldn't be laughing at the little red carpet :)

But on everyone of my Caribbean cruises there has never been a long line to get back on the ship.Maybe I'm just lucky or maybe I just have good timing. I hope that the lines are long in the future so the passengers who have booked a suite have the opportunity to use this perk. Ma Bell Posted September 11, 2013 #141 Share Posted September 11, 2013 I guess you have just been lucky because there have been many times that there have been long lines to get back on board. It would definitely be a nice perk for those who qualify. Caribbean cruises are not big "tour" cruises. People generally just come and go in small groups. Andym Posted September 11, 2013 Author #142 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Oh Dear, I dont seem to be able to make this any clearer. There is no seperate entrance. The VIPs walk on the red carpet ( Thats the perk), everyone else walks down the side of the red carpet and then through the same security check. But we never had any sort of lines when we were returning to the ship, in fact the picture was taken on our return one afternoon and in ten days we never saw anyone on the carpet. Whether it was the same entrance or not, during busy times, the suites and VIPs would be able to bypass the line to enter. I've seen it work both ways. Sometimes there are two separate entrances and sometimes just a separate line for the same entrance.

I'm never going to get the part of my life back that used to read dress code, smoking, elite perk and drink package threads either. At least this is a new topic. rainy4stu Posted September 13, 2013 #148 Share Posted September 13, 2013 Very well said. The passengers that book suites should be given extra perks, just as those that are Elite have extra perks that others don't get. I just think it is amazing that those Elites complain about what others get, but don't have a problem with the perks they get. Totally agree. On our last 2 cruises we have been fortunate enough to be able to have a suite and were awarded Elite status for the cruise. We were amazed how many Elite members had a real problem with us getting the same perks as them, it was like being back at school.
