Email from Royal RE:smoking

I am a loyal Royal Caribbean customer with over 20 cruises sailed. And I am a smoker; a very courteous smoker. One of the things I love about cruising is having a cup of coffee and a cigarette on my balcony. I've always made sure my neighboring balconies have no one on them, or I ask permission to smoke if they are occupied. 100 % of the time my neighbors have said go right ahead.

With this ban on Royal Caribbean, they have lost me as a customer. I dropped Princess for the same reason. I don't think I'll be sailing with Carnival, ever.

When you can contain your smoke to areas within 2 feet of you then you have a right to be indignant. Because when you smoke those around you do too.

Sorry but I'm afraid all nights are going to be smoking nights in the casino. It's says in the policy if you read the whole thing that there will no longer be no smoking on formal nights.

So they will have a smoking and non smoking section in the casino. Big deal. Ship casinos are small so might as well say the whole thing is smoking.

True,

Seems they still do not understand that smoke travels. See: Grandeur of the Seas.

I've had very good reports about NCL and they still allow smoking on the balconies. There's a comparison between RCCL and NCL on here and on the NCL forum. We're looking closely at them.

I sailed on the Gem last year, and liked it very much. The biggest difference I noticed is their cabin size. I usually sail in a JS, and their mini suite is much smaller. The crew were great, food and entertainment was about the same. I did miss the assigned dining though. I'm not crazy about Freestyle. The main reason I book RCI over NCL is the convenience of leaving from Bayonne instead of NY. Much easier for me.

Hmmmm...I didn't get the email.

I haven't either. And neither has my TA.

Is it really futile to hope that any thread, even for the first few pages, could remain on topic?? Already with the nasty, gratuitious, and completely uncalled for snipes by the non-smoking crowd. Really? Is it that impossible for you to keep your opinions to yourself when they are off topic to begin with?

I have been known to tell a smoker or two to butt out on non-smoking nights in the casino. I hope they still continue the practice of offering non- smoking nights (formal nights usually) on my next cruise?!

Told my DW yesterday that the casino would be the next area that non-smokers went after.

.

I wouldn't worry about that.

Do you really think complaints from non smokers are what caused this to happen??

It's about money. No business makes any decision unless it will save them some or earn them more. For whatever reason, higher insurance rates/clean up after smokers or lack of bookings from people (the majority of which) who are non smokers, this is about the $$$ smokers cost the cruise line.

And the casinos make the cruise lines money...so I can't believe (although it wouldn't bother me any) that any cruise line will ever eliminate smoking in the casino.
So if someone strays out of the smoking zone in the casino, while their playing the tables, there will be someone to usher them back? Think not.
Apparently you have never sailed Oasis and Allure. They basically have two casinos adjoined. One is smoking and the other does not allow smoking. I have witnessed many smokers being asked by ship personnel to immediately extinguish their cigarette or leave the area. This was while the smokers were at gaming tables.

Of course non-smokers may use both sides of the casino.

You can still smoke on Royal, is is just being further restricted. Carnival and NCL, if they continue to allow smoking on balconies much longer will get more of the heavy smoking crowd now. And knowing that, some non-smokers won't book those lines. Won't take those lines long to follow suit.

And if all smokers were as courteous as you, it would make a huge difference, however......

Even our casinos in Colorado are non-smoking. Smokers can use a card that shows a slot machine is in use while they step outside for a smoke.
Rcvd the email today - oh happy day! On the Allure last month and the only smoke we encountered was on the allowed sides of pool deck and casino. Bravo RCI!
You know the policy isn't in force yet, don't you?

Well, that's disappointing. I love playing the slots in the Casino but I can't stay in there long at all due to the heavy smoke. :(

Looks like Celebrity will not be an option for you either.

Right on! Now the pubs on the promenade decks will be another option for us to enjoy a drink or few.
