Good morning. Pulling into Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala shortly. We are using another ship tour today. Antigua self guided. The bus will take us up in the mountains to Antigua where we will spend the day wandering the town before coming back to the ship. My data plan does not cover Guatemala so I will be back online tonight. :)

Ah, we loved Puerto Quetzal. The Jade Museum is a fun, interesting stop. The jadeite jewelry for sale is not top quality stone, but well made and reasonably priced. And, a lovely place for lunch is within a few blocks from there (if I recall correctly)...It's hidden in a large beautiful courtyard of La Casa de Los Sueños B&B. It's just up the street from Dominos Pizza, LOL. Table service provided by friendly, local young men. Very good buffet station food with grills set up around the courtyard where ladies are making several types of corn tortillas that then come to your table fresh and hot. Yum.

A little off today's port stop topic, but germane to your itinerary. We realized, right around this day of our cruise last year, that we were glad to have chosen the east-to-west (FLL to San Diego) route. We picked up three extra hours of cruising (sleep) over the course of this second half of the trip! The same three hours are lost, in time zone changes, going the opposite way.

Enjoy your day.

Pleased to read that we will not be the only ones flying in from the UK for the Legend's next cruise. Have you joined the Roll Call?

No. We are with our friends a group of 11, so we have our own roll call lol. We are all from the UK so you won't be alone. We fly from manchester on Tuesday morning down to heathrow for the 13 50 flight to San Diego. We are stopping in the Sheraton overnight.

That is a great point, I will keep this in mind when ever I book the PC cruise.

So a question for you experienced ones. Is smoking allowed in the whole casino on this ship?

My cruise documents show that Royal Caribbean is changing their smoking policy starting January 2014. Before, you could do it on one side of the ship, but now, you can only smoke in designated areas. I do believe the Casino maybe one of those areas, but I think it may only be part of the casino. There is absolutely no smoking in rooms and balconies I think and doing so incurs a "cleaning bill" of $250.00.

Not sure how well this will be implemented and practiced. We shall see.

Well, I've booked March 2015 Canal cruise but hope the prices come down a bit in the interim !

It's all your fault, Bill :)

I booked our November 2014 cruise when it first became available probably close to 6 months ago - so 18 months out - I am still waiting for that elusive price drop but I don't think it's going to happen. I think I already got the bottom price. I will keep looking though because you just never know. Good luck to you too and happy sailing.

Not going to write much now as I am tired from a long day and need to get ready for dinner. Fantastic day in Antigua. Beautiful town well worth seeing. We did the on you own tour and hired a guide for $10 each.

So glad you and Marie had a great day. Sounds like that $10 pp guide was a good call. Looked like nice weather, too, from your sunrise shots...and it's (usually) cooler and drier once you're up in the elevation of Antigua...was it? Hope you have a chance to tell us more and post a few pics tomorrow.

Have a good dinner and evening.

The announcement for Anthem of the Seas just came out. Home port Southhampton UK in summer and Ft. Lauderdale in the winter.

Lou

Although this isn't a thread-relevant comment, it's sure hot off the press, and I bet Bill will be interested, too.

Not much hope for Canal cruise prices coming down. We were booked for the westbound canal cruise this coming March. But, for a couple reasons, we had to cancel last month. We booked it more than a year ago and the prices only went up. I checked every day and the prices on the canal cruise never dropped one penny, only went up. To get the cheapest price for a canal cruise is to book it the first day after they are announced.

Cruise fare is somewhat offset by lower airfares for this trip as opposed to overseas flights. Looks like this cruise became bookable last April according to that "fishy" site. Current prices are down a little for some categories but I'm not holding my breath for more, but who knows ?
