Evening bags/ clutches on formal nights?

sea pass cards are why my husband's pants have pockets....

 

I was wondering if/when someone was going to put the husband thing

on here.

 

Many of us don't have them...or mates, SO's or whatever they are called

these days......

 

I sail solo and I always carry some type of evening bag....formal

for formal nights and small crossbody bags for other nights....sea

pass card, money if I am going to the casino, tissue,.......And even

if I had a husband or mate? I prefer carrying my own stuff...I guess

when you have lived on your own for your entire life? The only

person I depend on for carrying things? ME:)

I've been on quite a few cruises with Celebrity and have only received sea pass holders and large bags in concierge cabins, never any small dress bag. What do they look like?

My thought exactly! I don't bring a purse on the cruise at all. I use a small backpack for the ports.

Aha, that was the problem! On my Equinox cruise last week, my seapass had to be replaced twice because it stopped working.

 

I was using a small Vera Bradley crossbody to carry my card and phone most of the time. It has a magnetic clasp, so that must have been the problem.

I get a lot of compliments when I tote my Snoopy backpack with my tux. It is good for holding snacks for my now famous therapy llama.

Over the years, with airline baggage restrictions being what they are, I have pared down my formal night attire to the basics and have found it very liberating:

 

1. One black cocktail dress that is worn on every formal night (no matter how many there are)

2. One black pashmina-type wrap

3. One pair of black strappy sandals

4. One silvery wristlet - less than the size of a standard evening bag and easier to hold on to in the casino

5. Some lightweight but glitzy costume jewelry

 

I know that wearing the same dress again and again will horrify some of you but my DH wears the same tuxedo or suit so why shouldn't I wear the same dress?

 

I pack in a similar fashion & wear the same formal outfit on all formal nights. With select dining you don't have the same dining companions anyhow so no one remembers what you wear!

They had some really nice Valentino handbags on the Reflection. Small envelope size to large tote size.

No evening bag on formal nights for me. Sea pass card, lipstick & comb go in DH's pocket.

I bring along a few evening bags; well I used to. My son spoiled it at Christmas by buying me a gorgeous beaded clutch that you can take anywhere. Darn, I used to love hunting for new ones.

Maybe I will see what I can fashion out of the blue shopping bag that you get in your cabin to go with by blue formal night dress (miched).

Never seen the use of cutting back on luggage; if I can't afford to take my clothes I can't afford to cruise.

Phoenix Dream, I follow your system. Most of our cruises are transatlantic, so I take washable black pants that I'll use over and over, sightseeing too. Then just bring along a couple of sparkly tops. Black sandles, jewelry, done.

I'm french speaking and when I asked my DDIL (she's American and of course speaks english)how she calls a cocktail purse, I thought the same thing! :0

I have a small black cloth evening bag with a thin strap, a small cream-colored macrame bag, and a silver one that I bought on the ship from the $10 bag table once when I forgot the black on. It has a chain that can be used as a strap or kept inside the bag to make it a clutch. The other two have flaps, the black secured with a snap and the cream secured with a velcro patch. I use the cream one on non-formal nights. All of them will hold my camera, comb, lipstick and tissues. I really don't like the silver one because the metal clasp is hard to open. I will say that in the past, the evening bag sidewalk sale (on M and C-class ships) has a good selection and $10 is a good price, compared to a regular store. Sailing Silhouette on Jan. 25th and probably it will have the same kind of sale.

This thread was a good reminder--I just retrieved my black and cream bags from the closet to lay out for the cruise.

I usually bring one black ankle-length tank dress with two different tops. I used to wear black strappy sandals, which are stylish, but were a bit large on me and not comfortable. The older I get, the more I go for comfort, lol. Now I wear plain black pumps that go with anything.

Over the years I have had to force myself to bring less shoes. When DH was cruising with me I used to sneak extra shoes into his two-suiter that held our forma lwear. I sometimes stuck shoes into the outside pockets of his suitcase. But now that he's gone and I have to pay for bags, I make do with one large bag to check and one wheeled weekender for a carry-on. The other carry-on is a mid-size backpack that holds my documents,camera case, drugs and some of my toiletries. I like the smaller wheeled bag because it holds more than a duffel bag.

I've cut back my shoe collection from 12+ to 6 or 7. I swear sometimes I can hear DH admonishing me from heaven as I am packing, "What? You don't need that many shoes!" LOL He used to take one pair of dress shoes and one pair of gym shoes and maybe a pair of sandals--PERIOD! :eek: I would be in major shoe withdrawal. ;)

DJSchib--always have your seapass with you. If DH is not around and you want to buy anything on the ship or get into your room, you will need it.

baggal--When I saw the word "pashmina" on your post, I started giggling. There is a wonderful comedian, Jeanne Robertson, who does a hilarious routine about her pashmina that a friend gave her for a trip to NY. I think you can find it among the clips of her on YouTube. I've seen her in person twice and have 3 of her CDs. I wish she did cruises. We'd all be rolling in the aisles like we were with Fred Klett, who was on a recent Celebrity cruise. They are both totally clean, but really funny. I looked up Fred's current schedule to see if he would be on my up-coming cruise, but no luck. He seems to be doing M-Class ships only.

Lois R--I always carried my own "stuff" when sailing with DH. We were not joined at the hip and I need to have my necessities at hand.

More snow predicted for the next two days. I just keep picturing the warm Caribbean sun that I will be enjoying in only 10 days. :D
