Bmorecruiser021 Posted February 6, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2014 Hi Everyone, I need advice from seasoned cruisers..... This is only our second cruise and I'm trying to convince DW to upgrade, but I don't know if this is a good deal or not? DW and I are currently in a Superior Ocean View with Balcony for a cruise this June on the Explorer. It is a 9 night Bermuda and Caribbean cruise. We got our stateroom for $1250 with a residents discount. I saw today that Junior Suits are going for $1800 with the residents discount and there is one available on the hump. I really want to jump on it, but DW is a little apprehensive, she would like to wait to see if the price goes down a little more. My question for all of you is, is this a good deal? Should we expect the price to go down much more? Have any of you seen the price drop below $1500 for a JS (where DW would like to see it before we upgrade)? Any and all opinions and advice will be welcomed and appreciated Thanks!
luvscruising2007 Posted February 6, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2014 Is that a per person rate, or per cabin rate? Per cabin it might be worth it, but only you can decide. Per person, I don't think it is worth it, but that is just me.

Local schools will not be out by then, but in other parts of the country they will. But Explorer draws strongly from the drive-to population. It's a crap shoot. How lucky do you feel? ;)
Ashland Posted February 6, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 6, 2014 Personally I would jump on that..and then just watch for any other price reduction you might be able to use before final payment date...At least you will have this great location held for you..better to have it instead of regretting you don't. ;):)
boulders Posted February 6, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 6, 2014 $1800 per person is not that good of a deal. I would keep watching. If the price goes down after final payment, you can upgrade at the lower rate, but if you upgrade now, you won't get any decrease in price if the rate goes down after final payment. yogimax Posted February 6, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 6, 2014 I'm with your DW on this one. Too much to pay for a bathtub.
Rare LMaxwell Posted February 7, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 7, 2014 "Is it a good deal". No. You'll get 18 cruise points instead of 9 and have a bit more floor space. You aren't going to have access to the Concierge Lounge with a Junior Suite. The cost is fully 50% more than what you have paid. So $133 PER DAY for the two of you. That's pretty hefty for a slightly bigger cabin IMO.
jellyfish39 Posted February 7, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 7, 2014 I don't think its that great a deal. I would first check to see how many JS are available doing a mock booking - if it looks like there a quite a few, then there is a good chance the price may drop after final payment - if that happens as others have said you can usually pay a little more to upgrade after final payment when they start to sell off unsold cabins. We have had good luck upgrading after final payment - i.e. $20 pp extra from D1 to JS, but it all depends on the ship and how busy a time of year it is. Good luck
Bmorecruiser021 Posted February 7, 2014 Author #9 Share Posted February 7, 2014 Thanks everyone for the advice! I did what you suggested jellyfish, and there are a good number of JS's left. So DW is right and we'll wait and I'll keep my fingers crossed that that JS on the hump stays open and the price drops :) Thanks again! travelplus Posted February 7, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 7, 2014 I also think its a bit much for the stateroom you are in. I was able to get a 2 week Trans Atlantic cruise for $800 per person in an Oceanview Stateroom. I would look for price drops before your Final Payment date. Bmorecruiser021 Posted February 9, 2014 Author #12 Share Posted February 9, 2014 We cant spend your $$$. You have to decide. It's not that I want anyone to spend my money for me, it's just that due to my lack of experience I don't know what to expect price wise. If those of you who have been cruising for years were to say "Yes it's a good deal," and then go on to tell me that in their years of experience they have never seen a price drop below $2000 for a JS, Id feel like it was getting a great deal....but on the other hand if I was told that experienced cruisers regularly get a JS for much lower then $1800 I'd wait and see where the price goes. I just really appreciate all the help and advice CC'ers can and do give to help newbies like me learn and grown in our cruising experience:)

Should we do it? That current deal with the OBC applies to new bookings only. You might want to check to see if you're eligible. You may have to cancel and re-book if there's no look-back period. semichigan Posted February 28, 2014 #17 Share Posted February 28, 2014 You got a balcony for $1250 for the cabin and now you want to spend $1800 Per Person? Am I understanding that correctly? If so, no way would I do that....but you might have a much larger budget than I do :) Whatever you decide, have fun! If you think that's a good price then go for it. It's $300 OBC so that really brings the pp price down to $1550 which is ok. I've seen better prices but I've seen much worse too. Even with the OBC factored in you're still paying almost $100 more per day to upgrade. Is that extra cost worth the extra space and double points to you? JYD Hawkeye Posted February 28, 2014 #19 Share Posted February 28, 2014 If Momma is not happy, then no one is happy !! Save the money and buy another cruise to take her on. She would like that much more than a bath tub once.
Bmorecruiser021 Posted February 28, 2014 Author #20 Share Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) SO.....it took me 2 hours on hold, but.....after talking to a resolutions specialist we got the JS for only $200 more per person. Don't ask me how:confused: AND it included the $300 OBC. So JS for $1450pp with $300 OBC good deal? I hope so because after giving up almost 3 hours of my life to RC, I really don't want to call them back:rolleyes: P.S. Mama Happy :D Edited February 28, 2014 by Bmorecruiser021

I've never been and a JS but I find that an E1 is fine for the two of us. The little bit of extra room in a D1 is fine but to me not worth the extra money. So...I guess it boils down to: if Mama is happy then everyone is happy!
