Sorry but another question regarding the new smoking policies.

With the new smoking policies in place, is anyone smelling smoke on deck 6 balconies since smoking is allowed on the promenade on deck 4. We are looking at independence of the Seas. Trying to decide what side of the ship to book (we do want a deck 6 balcony) and wondering if this should influence our decision.

I don't believe the new smoking policy added outdoor areas that didn't previously exist - they just discontinued the balcony smoking and any other indoor areas that may allowed it other than the casino.

I don't think you will have an issue.

We just got off Independence and ironically now that there's no smoking balconies, I was smoked right off of mine (deck 8)! It was way worse than last time, before the balcony smoking ban. I was going to ask guest services to help me out but I couldn't be sure who of my neighbours were lighting up. Be prepared to have smoke around you no matter where you are.

so you are saying someone was smoking on their balcony and it was invading your smoke free area but unfortunately you could not tell who it was?

why do some non smokers find it acceptable to allow smoking in the casino,

which is enclosed and not on balconys.

Because I can avoid the casino if I want to - and believe me, I want to! We have never spent a dime in any RCI casino because of the smoke. I do wish that they would install doors on the casinos so that the smoke stays inside instead of spilling out into the public non-smoking areas.

My balcony on the other hand, I am paying a premium for and want to enjoy smoke free since those are the rules now.

I'm not sure that they find it acceptable but they view it as something that is likely to be disallowed at some time in the future. In the meantime they are pleased that ay least one source of the problem has been eliminated. It may not be a complete victory but it is progress and should be celebrated as such

Thanks for all the replies and sorry for starting another smoking argument. We booked a starboard cabin since better choice that side and looks like wouldn't have been an issue either way.

If smoking is disallowed in the casino I think a lot less money will be spent. I normally spend about $1000 in the casino for the week - yes I smoke - yes I obey the rules - however, once they stop smoking in the casino Ill be spending a lot less money there. Ok you can flame me now:)

On Serenade in January I smelled cigar smoke the first night on the balcony. It wasn't from either of the balconies directly next to mine so I really didn't know where it was coming from. I said rather loudly 'You do know there is no smoking of any kind allowed on balconies now, right?' There was no answer but funny thing is that was the last time I smelled it the whole cruise. Maybe the smoker really didn't know.

Yes, one source of the problem has been eliminated, you may the other source of the problem! he he :p

We should all party with our (petty) victory! Once again...he he he :p

What else are you doing to improve our clean air environment. Do you use mass transport, drive less times to the Mall, protest against coal fueled power plants, use less energy, use your BBQ less? Do you donate money to help clean our air, or only yours? :D

Love to harass fanatic, non-smoker's right's nuts!!!
