Michael@ssrp Posted March 16, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 16, 2014 DW and I were discussing perhaps ordering in-suite SR course by course dining during our upcoming Riviera cruise. Is it the butler assigned to our PH that does the serving or a server from the SR? Do they just hang around and monitor your progress, or do you somehow signal you're ready for the next course or other need...? This sounds like a way for a quiet/romantic dinner at "home" after a long grueling day of exotic excursions, food, trivia, and perhaps indulgence of an adult beverage...
orchestrapal Posted March 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 16, 2014 Meals will be served by your butler. The butlers know exactly how to time your meal. If after the first time you want your food brought more slowly or more rapidly just tell him and he will adjust the timing to your wishes. It' a wonderful experience enjoy it. You can always ask them to bring dessert in an hour or at a specific time (we understand that there are others asking for the same service and give him a range of times). You will be spoiled!! JPR Posted March 17, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 17, 2014 We did this the last night so we could pack between courses. By then we knew which specialty restaurant cuisine we wanted to experience once more,
newbie60 Posted March 17, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 17, 2014 (edited) We do this often and always on the last night aboard while packing. We have used the phone/pager system as a signal to the butler to bring the next course, always understanding that he may have some delays due to preparation, other duties, etc. but this is meant to be a leisurely meal for us. In fact, the next course usually arrives within 10-15 minutes of our call so we know how to time it. Enjoy - it's decadent and a great way to utilize wine you may have brought on board without paying a corkage fee! Rare ronrick1943 Posted March 17, 2014 #9 Share Posted March 17, 2014 They really know what they are doing, just let the butler handle it and you'll have a great time. On a long cruise sometimes we just want a sandwich and chips-and watch a movie in the suite. Rick
Hawaiidan Posted March 17, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 17, 2014 THe penthouse...cabin that is ia about 215 sq ft... that includes the bathroom. That makes for a rather small room..... THe PH on Marina which are none to big are about 360 sq almost 50% larger. ...Make sure it and your desires all fit in the manner you envision. Michael@ssrp Posted March 17, 2014 Author #12 Share Posted March 17, 2014 Lady Meer you are correct! We are on a TA with lots of sea days and intend to enjoy this relaxing experience very much!! What a great idea to do the in suite dinner on the last nite and choosing from our favorite SR!
Silver Sweethearts Posted March 18, 2014 #13 Share Posted March 18, 2014 PHs on Riviera and Marina are 420 sq ft. We believe 420 square feet includes the balcony. That would mean Dan's figure of 360 square feet on the Marina (and Riviera) would probably be more correct in terms of interior space.

The balcony is 73 sq. ft. for a grand total of 449 sq. ft.
wripro Posted March 18, 2014 #15 Share Posted March 18, 2014 PHs on the R ships have 260 sq. ft. of interior space, 322 sq. ft. including the balcony. They actually feel even larger.

Two Happy Cruisers Posted March 24, 2014 #17 Share Posted March 24, 2014 That included the 60 sq ft balcony!.....360 including bathroom 360 sq ft sounds like a pretty comfortable space for in-suite dining. Having the butler serve each course when requested is another nice perk and will definitely have to be experienced. :) ~Benita
bonefishbruce Posted March 24, 2014 #18 Share Posted March 24, 2014 DW and I have upgraded to a penthouse next September. We were wondering if the balcony is large enough to accommodate a dinner. We're specifically wondering if we ordered something a little fragrant, like a lobster, if we could keep the smells outdoors. A little help from the more experienced cruisers would be appreciated. The balcony has two chairs and a small side table - not as high as a dining table, nor as large. It's fine to set a drink on and perhaps a small plate of appetizers, but that's about it. A Penthouse Veranda is way too tight for a proper dinner to be served, as there is absolutely no room for a standard height dining table AND the passengers AND the Butler. The second issue for this inquiry is that even if one does eat the food outside, the meal would still be entering through, and be staged inside the Suite, so doing so would not shelter the stateroom from smells. To be fair, however, I've never noticed any lingering odors, even when a full Dinner is served inside the cabin, where, by the way, you will dine far more comfortably. Rare LHT28 Posted March 25, 2014 #23 Share Posted March 25, 2014 Hi im and Stan,Would your answer be the same for 7128/7133? not Jim but I think those balconies are much deeper so maybe a larger table would fit of course you may have to sit out a bit & be overlooked ;)
JimandStan Posted March 25, 2014 #24 Share Posted March 25, 2014 Hi im and Stan,Would your answer be the same for 7128/7133? The Verandas of any of the four Penthouses at the back of the Ship on Deck 7 could easily handle a full sized dining room table, but the OP did not mention an extended veranda, so I did not want to open up a can of worms.
