msmoger Posted March 17, 2014 #51 Share Posted March 17, 2014 Also, I will be on a 15-day cruise with four port days. Is it like the Sanctuary, where the port days are not counted? Probably not, which puts the package back out of reason again. Cant see paying for full price for days we spend almost completely ashore.... (and if I'm wrong about the "full-cruise" Sanctuary cost, someone let me know!) I'm letting you know. ;) If you reserve the Sanctuary for the entire cruise you reserve for port and sea days. Same for the drinks package.

DrivesLikeMario Posted March 17, 2014 #53 Share Posted March 17, 2014 They may as well, it will be a free for all. I agree. There is no way the bartenders are going to be the alcohol-drink-package police. People are going to be sharing these packages just like they do with the soda packages. mmckm Posted March 17, 2014 #54 Share Posted March 17, 2014 We have a suite and we love to sit on the balcony most days and have a few drinks. We order from guest services bottles of rye and beer for the room. We bring our mix and water on board as well as 2 bottles of wine. We would love to get the package but the only problem is we would spend more time getting drinks then relaxing on our deck. We do spend a little time at the bars on the lido but hate trying to find a lounge chair in the pool area due to chair hogs that put there towels on a chair and think they own it for the day. This package is not for us. We would spend a lot more if we had the package. Our last bar bill with guest services bottles for a 14 day cruise including what we brought on board was $1000. If we were in a inside room we would get it for sure.

One time I was getting my wife a shake with her card (UKP) and the employee said OK this time, but next time she'll have to come up and get it. So, don't be so sure. Of course, I don't know if this new drink package just puts a sticker on your card or what.

Perhaps princesses mark up on liquor is so high that they won't care. Obviously I have no idea just guessing like the rest of you.
Disneycruisers Posted March 17, 2014 #57 Share Posted March 17, 2014 DH, DD and I are sailing our first Princess cruise in March. I'm very happy to learn this as I only drink one or two drinks, and not even every night. DH however, sometimes enjoys a bloody Mary before dinner, and definitely beer while in the casino.:p We will definitely keep it honest though. (I'm the type who fears getting a flat tire on the way home, if we cheat in any way.) We're also taking our own Dr Pepper onboard.

IECalCruiser Posted March 17, 2014 #60 Share Posted March 17, 2014 will princess ever offer the free drink package like celebrity does, lolThere is a post that they are offering the packages free on certain Caribbean cruises out of the UK. This might only be for Princess UK passengers.

You know the bartenders are not going to police the cards for fear of reprisals. There is already rumbling in this thread about sharing...followed by "we will be honest." In the past, people reported trying to peel off the soda stickers to use again. People reported about using a coffee card for years etc. Unless they start serving really watered down drinks, this is not a money maker.
Marelaine Posted March 18, 2014 #62 Share Posted March 18, 2014 You guys are really something else. I'm sorry I wasted my vacation time posting. Now to get back to my cruise. Frugalist - Thank you for posting this helpful information. My husband doesn't drink alcohol; I do. It's nice to know I can buy this package and my husband can buy a soda card. Happy vacation to you. Why do you think Princess is different from Celebrity and Royal Carribean? You have no clue what Princess has in place to prevent sharing Edited March 18, 2014 by Cruise Junky
Sea Gypsy 2 Posted March 18, 2014 #64 Share Posted March 18, 2014 Is the drink package only offered on embarkation day? Also, when you order a soft drink with the card, is it a canned drink or a fountain drink?

Rare Cruise Junky Posted March 18, 2014 #67 Share Posted March 18, 2014 If you do, then please enlighten us. Celebrity has it built into their card swipe, you can't get two drinks within a certain amount of time and the bartenders do watch. Sure if you're going to get a drink and walk back to your room and hand it to your spouse, they won't know but other lines manage this just fine I'm sure Princess will also be just fine. Eaglemad Posted March 18, 2014 #68 Share Posted March 18, 2014 This was from March 6th: http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=5769 I still can't understand why they don't roll the package out through the entire fleet including Australian based ships. Perhaps it is because they aren't able to include the 15% gratuity on Princess ships down under. I have contacted Princess and they simply stated that they understand my query and will pass the message on to the Food and Beverage Manager
mammajamma2013 Posted March 18, 2014 #69 Share Posted March 18, 2014 And those with spouses that do not drink may participate honestly. Yup. I'm glad to hear this is in effect. I drink but my spouse doesn't. It didn't seem fair that we'd both have to buy the card if I'm the only one that was really interested.
Rare cruisequeen4ever Posted March 18, 2014 #70 Share Posted March 18, 2014 This is great news! My hubby would enjoy the unlimited drinks package while I prefer the UKP. It's wonderful having the flexibility to decide what works best for you, not your whole stateroom! Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

Pine Bluff Posted March 18, 2014 #73 Share Posted March 18, 2014 We're on the Royal now. Heard from a bartender last night and just confirmed with Passenger Services: Starting with this cruise, if you want to buy the $49/day unlimited drink package, it is NO LONGER REQUIRED that all of the adults in your stateroom buy the package! I know this will make a lot of you very happy! I always thought there's gotta be a better way than to punish everyone for the acts of a few. Not everyone in each sailing adult party is an alcoholic that would be required to purchase these plans. It's really up to the llines to better detect any fraud that may be going on. Kudos to Princess. I hope some sister lines follow.

I don't know about that... Someone back from a recent cruise in their review described a passenger heading to the bar and getting drinks on the all inclusive package and going back to their table and handing out the drinks to everyone present 8 people in total. No time limit involved.
