Deals and Emails

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the lack of emails from HAL lately. I used to get an email offering deals at least every week or two and I don't think I have had an email from HAL in 3-4 weeks now. I did receive a flyer in the mail I think last week. But otherwise nothing. Wonder what's up with this?

You can have some of ours. We get quite a few.

Just a hint: Most firms, HAL included, employ click tracking and purge names off their lists if the recipient hasn't clicked through in a long time. They also remove names from their lists when the emails bounce. If you get click on the occasional message, they should keep coming.

While that may be the situation for some marketing I highly doubt if that is true for Hal. I think it has more to do with if you have a cruise booked with them or not. The only thing I ever get from them is requests for money or emails to remind me to book shorex. On the other hand I get bombarded from Princess but that stopped once I booked a cruise with them. Now that I'm back it's started again.

Interesting responses, but I cannot agree with everything stated. First off, at present I have no cruises booked, although we are considering one and I have been on HAL's site browsing. Secondly, last fall I had two cruises booked with them and continued to be pummeled with emails, which I usually browse through just checking the offers. My email hasn't changed in a couple of years, so I know that is not it. Just seemed odd that we are not receiving anything suddenly.

I haven't gotten mail---E- or snail---from HAL in years and years. I also haven't been without at least one HAL cruise booked in years and years. Coincidence? I think not.

I have signed up for notifications at least twice; when I do, I get one notification. Then it stops again.

If that is HAL's game plan, it's a silly one. I used to book a cruise a year. Then the cruises I booked got longer (more money to HAL). Then I started booking two, then, three, then four and five cruises in advance. If they don't send me anything because they figure I have a cruise booked, they are missing the sixth, seventh, etc. under deposit.

When the day comes that I can no longer cruise, I expect I will be inundated with come-ons.

A fair amount of our commercial email winds up getting spam filtered. We check our spam boxes and manage our whitelists & blacklists regularly. Initially, our HAL mail was dropping into the suspect / spam box.

It's also possible that the email robots like us a lot. ;)

The only one that can tell you for sure is Hal. Why not contact them? What might be true in your case might not be the same for me. I get plenty of snail and email. Personally I'd like a break from it.

I feel your pain:) Sometimes there is just too much email. However, I do pay attention to HAL email, often hoping to find a cruise I am really interested in at a special price.

Guess I will have to look in to it:rolleyes:

I know thats what a lot of people think is happening to people that don't get anything from hal. Trust me, that is not the case for me. Someone on the board even suggested it was because I wasn't putting my mariner number in. Believe me, that not the case. I used to have several cruises at one time booked with Hal. I'm not doing that now because they don't seem to appreciate my business. It will be interesting to see if they deem me important enough to deal with once i get back from my april cruise. I'll be doing a fall cruise and its up in the air who will get my business, hal or princess.

DH receives the most HAL email offers - at least 2-3 times a week. I know because I check his email for him (he never looks at it). He also receives lots every week from NCL and Carnival. Even though I'm always passenger #1 and he's #2, I don't receive the emails, he does. We also receive something in the mail about once a week and this week it was the VIP casino cash cruise offer, so I jumped on it and we are doing the Nov. 23rd Nieuw Amsterdam 7-day out of Ft. Lauderdale.

Both of us get several emails a week on our individual accounts - sometimes they are the same and sometimes different. Also get snail mail brochures about once a month and occasional emails from our PCC. They seem to want our continued business!

We have no cruise booked right now, but will book soon for an August European cruise we like. Have been on the website a lot checking fares and itineraries. Maybe that is the reason. A lot of the stuff is exclusive to Prinsendam, and we sailed her once in 2012, so maybe they market for repeat business.

We also get occasional snail mail from Oceania - does HAL sell lists? - as we have never been on them. Got 2 phone calls from NCL and never been on them but did inquire last year about one with an online TA.

Sailed Princess for first time last year and never hear from them - guess they don't want us back.

There is no rhyme or reason to it all - but they sure spend a lot on marketing.
