Drink prices

Anyone have a current price lists for drinks? With no sea days, I'm not sure the Bev. Pkg. is worth it. Beer drinker by day, wine drinker after 5. Thanks for any input.

No, I don't have the price list available. Every cruise the per glass charge seems to be different, but I'm guessing that these days a glass of wine might be around $8-10 before gratuity, beer is somewhat less.

We are people who don't find the package worth it. Hubby doesn't drink except for an occasional glass of wine (usually stolen from my glass). We don't go to the bars except very rarely. I WILL buy a bottle of wine (which you cannot do with the package) for mealtime which usually lasts me 3-4 days (depending on my mood).

If you want beer during the day and wine from 5pm, and especially if you're on a port intensive cruise, probably you're better off going a la carte.

Others may chime in with a different opinion!

For us, to spend $60/day per person -- we just wouldn't drink that much. (Maybe we would on a cruise with many sea days, but not for the cruise you describe.)

For people who like wine or beer with lunch, cocktails before dinner, wine with dinner, maybe an after dinner drink -- then it can be worth it. (Especially with more sea days.)

Only you can decide.

Hope I haven't provided further confusion! We have a TA coming up in May and so could possibly justify the package, but we're going to be in a suite that provides a liquor set-up and since we're happy to have cocktails in our room rather than going to a bar ... we still wouldn't buy a package. On this cruise I MIGHT if we were in a cabin that didn't have the liquor set-up. (DH could buy his own if he wished ...)

Besides, we're leaving from NYC and we live in NYC so it's not hard to bring on some wine with us ... bearing in mind we pay a corkage fee.

There are lots of considerations in terms of just what you want to do with drinks.

Thanks, Mura. Last O cruise, we didn't take the pkg and lost out, our bill was more. But it was South America and we ended up spending a lot more time on the ship than on European cruises when we were off exploring so much. This is Spain so I hope to get some good wines on shore.

Mura. PLEASE forgive me but if you have never had first had first hand

experience why would post your opinion. You have made it very clear on other

posts when you cannot answer that you are in OS and Vista Suites. We get it that those of us in "lower level suites" as indicated in the binocular thread. We could too but like other O followers are comfortable with the cabins we book that always are superior with perks. The experience you receive from being a loyal O customer. To answer Lilybug's question, buying the beverage package is not worth it to us. Paul drinks beer and I like Martinis most of which are consumed in our cabin since my Martini consists if vodka/gin/St. Germaine and muddled cucumber. That being said you are better off without the package. We just returned from Azamara which was all-inclusive. We still couldn't drink its weight in gold.

Okay, you're right that we're usually in a suite -- but usually not in an OS (one time, in 2005 on Regatta). A couple of times in a VS, once in an OC. Mostly, yes, we're in a PH. True, that's a higher level than many but we aren't people who only sail at the top of the top.

But that IS why I try to make it clear that my experience may be different.

We've booked a PH on Marina next year for Lima to NYC. I won't have a liquor set-up in the room and I won't be getting the package. (And that liquor set-up in top suites is relatively new, as well.)

Aren't we agreeing that whatever the cabin level we both don't find the package worthwhile?

We agree on this subject. May not agree on the next one. :)

I do not have a list but in Jan the drinks & wine seem to average about $10-12 more or less including the 18%

I am not sure on the beer prices ...I do not drink it & DH did not have any on this trip

We are always in an OS, and we always get the Prestige package. We do NOT want to sit in the suite and drink. We like to be out and about...at tea, in Martini Bar...anywhere we can find life. We live at home and drink at home at cocktail time, but when you are on vacation, you want to meet people..not sit in the suite with free drinks...Just our opinion.

I think Caroldoll makes a good point. A lot depends on who you are, and your habits.

While hubby may enjoy the occasional Scotch in the room while waiting on me to get ready for the evening, or to unwind after a busy day of touring, we prefer to have cocktails in public settings to mingle with other guests, or to enjoy some music, or just for atmosphere. It feels more like being on vacation to be out and about.

Agree regarding being out and about. Package is a no brainer to me. You only need to drink about 4 drinks a day or possibly 5 as beer is a little cheaper. Remember the package includes service charge at 18%. Couple of beers at lunch, cocktail for trivs couple of glasses of wine with dinner, possibly a digestif after, quids in without even trying!

Agreed! Hope you are enjoying the bookmark.

I am, indeed! Thanks again for giving it to me. It's just lovely. (These days I read more books on Kindle than as real books, but there's always at least one of the "original models" in the mix!)

If you have the drink package, can you order a bottle of wine or is it served per glass? Are after dinner liquors part of the drinks package and perhaps Irish coffee?

You can order a bottle of wine...but it is NOT covered. Only wine by the glass from a select list.

After dinner drinks are included.

While it is a good deal on one hand It has some potential problems.

for 10 to 14 day cruisers..maybe even 20 day OK. But when you are taking 5 and 6 week cruises that's one heck of a lot of booze that might consume over such a long period..That to me poses a problem since you have to purchase "all or nothing"

So, could you tolerate 4 to drinks a day, every day for weeks on end? Penny wise but could be health foolish...

Your call all things considered......

Only wines that are available by the glass are included in the Packages. If you want something else you can order a bottle but you'll pay full price. I've read hear that others have done that.

Same if you bring your own wine. Unlike some other lines that discount corkage if you have 'included wine', corkage remains at $25 per bottle.

Yes, liquors and coffee drinks are included. Highest end single malt scotch is excluded but almost everything else is included. It can be expensive, especially on long voyages where as the entire cruise must be purchased but is very enjoyable.

So say we were to have 2 Hendrick's martinis before dinner, and a glass (or two) of wine with dinner, and perhaps a nightcap... Would this be a good fit? I can't remember the prices last time I was on Marina (June). We do frequently have our Martinis at Martinis during the 5-6pm happy hour so they're 2 for 1 or half price or whatever.

Thanks!

Money wise, You are right on the cusp. The deciding factor will be the quality/price of the wines that you choose, what you drink as a nightcap and if you are able to stop at one nightcap.

If your itinerary is very active one, I'd probably suggest skipping the Package, but if you have more than three sea days, or short Port days, I'd say that you should Live it up!

I usually go to bed later than DH, who rarely drinks after dinner. So I'd probably have 2, maybe 3 nightcaps if I am having fun socializing with the night crowd in the casino or bar. As for wine, the by-glass menu is fine for us, and it would be 2 glasses each as we typically split a bottle for dinner. We only have one sea day for our British Isles cruise, and typically get back on the ship around 4 or 5pm every day that trip... Sounds like this is a close call. I suppose the difference would be relatively minimal if we did "underuse" this package, and being a Jaques Pepin cruise (he'll be onboard) I hear the night scene is pretty active so it may be a win. Just to be certain, you can purchase the package on your second day, correct? And if so, it's prorated for just the days you have it, correct (not the first day we didn't elect?). It's a 10 day cruise and we probably will want to do that as the first day we really don't drink (we're coming from a week in Amsterdam so we will NEED to sleep -)

  • 1 month later...

If you order a bottle of wine for dinner and drink half of it. Like they do on other cruise lines - will they give you a number so you can drink the remaining wine in that bottle the next evening?
