New ship in 2016 - Koningsdam

We've discussed a ton of this on the main Koningsdam thread. Host Walt will hopefully combine these threads (??) I've requested it.

I interpret the deck plans to say that Mix IS the combination of the Ocean and Piano bars. Not that Mix and its 3 bars, the piano bar and the ocean bar are some massive 5 bar complex. I only know as much as the deck plans show but that is my assumption and that the Piano bar will provide the musical entertainment for that space. Or maybe alternate with performances if the Ocean Bar still has a stage in this incarnation.

Queen's Lounge is indeed 2 stories.

No one has any idea on the 2nd alternate restaurant. Some have guessed a shef room, my guess is no as the Master Chef Room on Nieuw Amsterdam does not get its own label on that deck plan.

Well if that is the case, that means we have lost another bar that has entertainment. Also I see there is no Sports Bar, but they have add a new bar on the upper level called Panorama Bar and a New York Deli. Interesting........can't wait till we see some photo's of the Mix bar area.

I noticed that the glass elevators on the side, center ship are gone. I really liked those elevators. I also see that they have a running track up near the top which should keep people from running around the promenade deck.

Another thing I noticed is that the casino is on a different deck than the Piano Bar, Mix etc. which I think I would like.

I much prefer the smaller ships, maybe if all new ships are this size I'll have to take River Cruises.

My girlfriend was quick to notice that there is no dressing room in the Neptune suite . Looks like the toilet and another sink are where the dressing room should be ?

I think they intended the area circled in red to serve that purpose as your SO could dress in there (with direct access to the hall closets) while you bathe in the main part of the bathroom.

This new ship deck plan confirms what I most feared about the HAL of the future. This is basically a Vista class ship with more cabins and higher density. The public spaces will be shiny and new for awhile, but there is nothing innovative or unique about this class of ship. Unless you like standing in line or noisy public areas, I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. The old ships are tired and worn, but they were designed in an era when open space and peacefulness were important. Each successive generation of HAL ship has gotten more crowded and this new one takes it to the Pinnacle. I had hoped that HAL would come up with something truly new or attractive to offset the higher passenger density. I guess that wasn't to be. HAL's biggest strength are their itineraries and long cruises. These big ships will have a hard time reaching their load factors on long or exotic trips and will have pressure to schedule week long milk runs like the other bigger ships in the industry. For me, the arrival of this ship is a depressing harbinger of the future for HAL. I find it surprising that so many people are celebrating it.

I just merged another thread into this one so you may want to review the last few pages to see what was added.

I also changed the thread title from New ship name in 2016 - Koningsdam to New ship in 2016 - Koningsdam, because the discussion is about the Koningsdam herself and not just the name.

So did I. It was fine the way it was before it was piled on top of the older thread.

There's an even older thread from May when the first drawing / rendering came out. It's got around 70 posts. There is one from June with 81, and one from August with 60+. It'd be a shame not to graft them all together. :D

Am I missing something? After reading all the descriptions of the amenities for all of the cabin categories I see no listings for refrigs in any of the cabins. Or are they described differently and I don't recognize them? Do you think they have left out refrigs in the cabins?

The descriptions for the Vista Suite and above list a "No-Host" mini-bar.

According to a cruise publication which I am not sure I am allowed to link to here the new ship will remain in Europe doing 7 day itineraries out of Rome until it transitions to Rotterdam for official naming ceremonies and then will cruise in the Baltic and Northern European region.

If you google Ms Koningsdam itinerary you will find the article in a weekly publication.

RCCL is sending Quantum to join two others in China (Shanghai)- the new hot cruise market. Interesting that we have heard nothing from HAL about China Market. Perhaps CCL has plans for another of their lines in that market.

Personally would love to see Koningsdam in the NA market but I won't believe anything until I see published itineraries in December.

Not to mention the new sticky. Perhaps that's the reason your thread got merged. It's really too bad as the thread was specific to the deck plans and amenities and detail.

The other cabins all show a 'corner bar', but not sure if that includes a small fridge.

I also noticed that there will be bedside power outlets and also bedside usb outlets.

Just found that myself. Surprised they were giving that info to trade publications over a month ago

With one PS will be more like the Reflection Suite on X -about the same size. Last I looked Reflection Suite was about 15K for 7 night Caribbean.

It has the same footprint as every ship since Zuiderdam but in hoping its a dramatic change in the inside

How do you know she'll spend majority of her first year sailing in Europe? I've looked for such information and can't find it.

Port schedules. She's listed to be in Norway and Copenhagen throughout the 2016 summer.

There are many posts on this earlier in this thread, around page 14 or so iirc. celebrity_fan tracked down a ton of port sites that have her listed.

I'm amazed she will carry paying guests prior to being named and having her Bell Blessed.

Seems more tradition is disappearing. There is romance and interest in the traditions and history of ships and sailing and losing those traditions, IMO, makes the whole ship/cruise experience lesser.

Her port schedules have been locked in for a few months. They're just reporting what the ports show.

She's a Europe baby, at least until September 2016. I think she'll take the Voyage of the Vikings route and then head to the Caribbean, because a Signature ship IMO Eurodam heads to Alaska that summer.
