Do you have a haunted ship story to tell?

My husband and I were on a cruise in a balcony cabin. The second night out I woke up about 3:00am to the sound of footsteps walking around the cabin. In the morning my husband asked me why I was walking around in the middle of the night. I said I thought it was him. I know the sounds did not come from the cabins above, below or in the hall. They were definitely in the cabin. I mentioned it to our steward and he said others had reported the same thing happening. It only happened the one night and we never found out what it was. Has anyone else experienced anything weird on a ship?

I have a ghost that follows me on every ship I go on. I've tried to describe him to my DH but my memory is blurry when I try. All I know is that he is a one armed bandit, seems to favor the casino and robs me every time. Every single time! He even got my daughter on the last cruise.

Not a haunted ship, but a haunted beach house in Hawaii.

First morning I woke the front door was wide open when I know I shut and locked it.

Turns out the all night party down the street was a tv in another room of the house that wasn't being used.

Then one morning I was shaken awake pretty violently to open my eyes to nobody there. I had been getting up at 6:00 each morning to sit on the beach and watch the sun rise and then swim. I overslept this particular morning by 5 minutes.

The TV came on again in the middle of our last night we were there.

We never really thought about a ghost until the last day when we added the stories together. We jokingly call him the beach dude ghost. No relation.:cool:

Every marine engineer I know has gotten the heebie-jeebies while wandering the engine room late at night, as they feel the "bilge monster" looking over their shoulder, or running past their peripheral vision. Most just don't want to ever talk about it. :p

Several years ago, we sailed on RC's Serenade of the Seas, with another couple, who are our best friends. In the beginning, we were a little jealous, because they were in a Grand Suite (and we weren't). Then, we started hearing about the weird things going on in their cabin:

-- All of their camera batteries (including back-ups) completely drained;

-- Recurring problems with their safe, as well as the cabin door locks;

-- Unexpected "cold spots" in the room (nowhere near air vents);

These were all explainable, to some degree. But, my friend said she was in the cabin one day and saw a shadow moving on the balcony. She just thought DH had gone out there for a smoke. A few minutes later, he came through the cabin door, talking about how much he'd just won in the casino. She ran to the balcony window -- nobody out there, of course! :eek:

Does the Queen Mary count??? We leave our spirits at home when we cruise, yes we have some!!! They are quite entertaining...:D

DH and I were married a week and half before Halloween. We traveled to Los Angeles for our Honeymoon and were going to visit the Queen Mary. The night before we had planned to go there was a show on TV about ghosts (it was close to Halloween after all). One of the ghosts they were talking about was on the Queen Mary. Of course now when we went on our tour we were keeping our eyes out for the mysterious Queen Mary ghost. When we were in the bowels of the ship one of the machines let out a burst of steam that made me jump sky high. I could of sworn I saw a shadow running behind something too...my imagination was working on overtime :D.

Do you really it was imagination??? Are you not a believer??? The spirits are out there and waiting for you to accept them... We have a few at home and they like to screw with us... Turning on and off lights, wandering by with their little shadows... We talk to them, I just hope they never talk back!!!:eek:

Has anyone been to Fort Saint Catherine, Bermuda? That was one of the creepiest places ever. None of the employees will stay on the property after dark. There was even an exorcism held in one of the tunnels. We could feel pressure building as we walked down one underground hallway. I just wanted to turn around and leave, but GD thought it was a great place to explore.

Norwegian Dream was "stretched" - they added a segment to her hull - making a very complicated deck arrangement. We had to go through the dining room to get from our cabin to the central part of the ship, unless we wanted to go up or down a deck, then go forward, and then go up or down. Coming back from Bermuda to Boston a number of passengers were talking about strange noises at night.

Of course, many ships flex in reasonably heavy seas, with accompanying groans and creakings. A stretched ship might be more likely to experience noisy flexing. Frankly, I was more concerned by the behavior of some of the passengers than by any possible ghosts.

Sound travels around the structure of a ship. Noises can be transmitted through structural members that are hidden behind walls, floors, ceilings, etc. Mechanical sounds can sound like something else.

There are so many likely natural explanations for noises, why bother with superstition?

All of these are very classic attributes of suspected paranormal activity and while I would be excited at the prospect of having such an experience anywhere, I would be extremely annoyed at the batteries from my electroncs draining on a cruise.

OooHHH! Now, I really have to go there! :eek:

We'll be in Bermuda three days on Summit -- that fort is definitely going on our list of things to see -- thanks! :cool:

Never on a ship but in a castle we stayed at in London. I saw a lady in our room. Freaked me out at the time and my husband thought I was nuts. We didn't know the place was actually haunted until we saw a story about the same castle and the same lady haunting it 5 years later on TV.

I love ghost stories. When we visited Jamaica we spent several hours at the Great Hall where the ghost of Annie Palmer lives. I even got a photo of a shadow of her reflection in a mirror but I am thinking of the OP's post.

I've never been on that ship but she mentions hearing someone walking around her cabin. Aren't the cabins carpeted on this ship?
