LA_CA_GAL Posted June 9, 2014 #51 Share Posted June 9, 2014 Even to the untrained eye it is very evident that there are no restraints, bars, gates or other devices that would deter someone from accidentally sitting on the rail. The placement of the rail is so conducive for the rail to be used for sitting that one would automatically believe that the rail was placed there for the express purpose of sitting. They should make the rails out of metal and electrify them. Think of all the problems that would solve.
navybankerteacher Posted June 9, 2014 #52 Share Posted June 9, 2014 Complete moron. Imagine the comments if this pic were posted on RCCL or Norwegian forum and it were a Carnival passenger rather than a Norwegian passenger. I'm sure people would be saying that's the type of clientele that travels on Carnival and much worse. Are you implying that he is an example of a typical NCL passenger? navybankerteacher Posted June 9, 2014 #53 Share Posted June 9, 2014 Is this a joke? Are you really placing blame on the lack of signs or devices that would physically prevent people from doing this? Sadly in our litigious society lack of signs has been found by juries to indicate liability for damage done to themselves by idiots. Have you ever noticed that rotary lawn mowers come with warnings that they should not be picked up and used as hedge clippers? The result of a successful law suit by a newly fingerless consumer. momofmeg Posted June 9, 2014 #56 Share Posted June 9, 2014 By that logic, you are suggesting this is the type of clientele that sails Norwegian. I don't think idiots are line inclusive. They are everywhere. Well there was that woman on the Dawn several years ago who tired to climb form one balcony to another and fell and died. However, I have been on enough different cruise lines to know idiots sail on all, it just seems there are more of those on Carnival at times. I thin kit is because Carnival has the most ships of all lines that do 3 and 4 day party-hardy cruises, so they get the rep. Seven days are not so bad. momofmeg Posted June 9, 2014 #57 Share Posted June 9, 2014 I´m from Sweden and every time me and my fiance are in the states we laugh and take pics of stupid warning signs. :D Well I'm American, but I have to agree why do people have to be warned? unless a person is mentally challenged(scratch that even someone mentally challenged would not try that) they should know better. I guess because too many idiots are around who feel their "rights" are infringed upon if they are not allowed to do something dangerous. After all if they do something dangerous and something happens; well they get to sue the cruise line. I still can't get over the idiot drunk woman who fell from her balcony, survived, and then sued Carnival because it took the ship 2 hours to rescue her. Only in America where we have all these ambulance chasing lawyers would someone sue for something like that.
Laughing Angel Posted June 10, 2014 #58 Share Posted June 10, 2014 Well, it's obvious this guy likes to take chances, because those shorts are a HUGE gamble... And yeah, the gene pool could use some disinfecting... This genius thought this would be a good activity as his boat pulled out of port. I saw him doing this and had to run back inside to grab my camera. I'm glad he was sailing Norwegian Getaway and not on the Breeze.

Whimsy88 Posted June 10, 2014 #61 Share Posted June 10, 2014 Now I know why some people take bungee cords. I'm betting this moron's wife had one end hooked to his shorts and the other end hooked to the door frame behind him, because he's probably done this before. Do you think someone actually married him? What is WRONG with people!!!

PR0318 Posted June 10, 2014 #63 Share Posted June 10, 2014 It looks like he is one level above deck 5 I believe, he would have fallen 1 deck, so his risk taking wasn't that much of a risk.
bizeemom4 Posted June 10, 2014 Author #64 Share Posted June 10, 2014 Not having first hand knowledge of that ship, I didn't know that there was a ledge to catch him if he fell. From my balcony, it just looks like it's all the same balconies and railings the whole way down. Good to know that he wasn't in that much danger. His fall would not be any worse than falling off your kitchen counter in your home. His stateroom is located directly above the roof for the Waterfront area on the deck below, as was pointed out by poster bear3412 in post #32. Still it was a dumb move, but certainly not life threatening. This photo shows what he is sitting over: Here is an overhead view of that wide roof area he is sitting over from post #32: Edited June 10, 2014 by boogs

EdmPair Posted June 11, 2014 #70 Share Posted June 11, 2014 Interesting discussion. Glad to see the photos from above to show the roof he would land on if/when he falls. However, I would not assume it was built to support a falling person. Also, if it has a grade at all it will just toss him in the drink unless he punches through it. I doubt the roof over the walkway below is a good thing in all ways. He needs a sign. Not the railing. M

I was just poking fun at certain segments of today's society that eschew any notion of personal responsibility. Barb Nahoumi Posted June 11, 2014 #75 Share Posted June 11, 2014 Remember George Smith who disappeared from the Brilliance of the Seas, while on his honeymoon? Supposedly there was a bloodstain left on an overhang below his cabin. His body was never found.
