Carnival Bans Smoking on Balconies

Carnival has announced that it will be banning smoking on balconies from 9th October.

 

Norwegian Cruise Lines and HAL will be the only mainstream cruiselines which will allow smoking on the balcony.

Good thing if you ask me......sorry smokers, but there is nothing worse than sitting on your balcony with someones smoke from the balcony next door wafting past.

As a reformed smoker I think it's a sad day for smokers - I enjoyed sitting on deck/balcony with a drink and having a smoke. I suppose it does impact others enjoyment so the decision is probably for the best.

I didn't enjoy having to leave my balcony because the person up-wind of us started to smoke on his balcony. We didn't ask him/her to stop smoking, because at the time smoking was permitted on the balcony.

My Brother in law smoked on the balcony of an RCI ship out of Australia for 18 nights and nobody said anything even though its not permitted! Nobody told him about RCI,s change in policy except me and it wasnt in T&C,s when he paid for the cruise so he just smoked as normal.

 

I noticed a very high percentage of smokers on my recent Carnival USA cruise and you can still smoke in the casino. I am sure Carnival will lose quite a few repeat customers who smoke by banning it on balconies but they wouldnt cut their own throats and ban it in the casino which is "a real health risk to its casino workers":rolleyes:

 

I think people are just way too sensitive these days about the smell of cigarette smoke, some even profess to be allergic to it which is not possible lol

Well I may be sensitive about cigarette smoke but it's a genuine reaction - I feel sick, my sinuses clog up and I start coughing. I also react in a similar manner to bushfire smoke.

 

If I had been next to your BIL on that cruise I would have been complaining bitterly.

For some people including me, it can cause asthma. (I should say, I suffer from asthma and cigarette smoke nearby can make me very tight in the chest.) I hold my breath if I can if I have to walk near someone who is smoking.

 

By the way, congratulations on staying off the cigs. :D:D

The cruise lines that have stopped smoking throughout and also on the balconies will get my custom. Those with the special smoking areas are best, as I like to avoid those areas and explore the rest of the ship smoke free.:D

Going on my first cruise as a non-smoker soon (29/8), thinking I will avoid the smoking areas like the plague LOL

 

Being smoke-free is just the way things are going now, as long as there is still a smoking area that's fair enough. I can see all companies going down this route eventually, don't think they will ever go smoke-free as they would lose too much custom.
