Tara Jane Posted September 1, 2015 #1553 Share Posted September 1, 2015 (edited) Just booked balcony at $1449 per person with $US 350 per person OBC, grats and a bottle of wine. the $1419 were restricted view but sold out when I called. Now to work out visa and flights back to melbourne. Not as many stops as I would like but there is no way I would pay the regular Queen Mary 2 Cunard prices so its giving me the experience at a reasonable price. Am spreading the word and we now have 5 friends joining us. Edited September 1, 2015 by Tara Jane

Check re the Chinese Visa. My friend was told that one is not needed now if your stay is not longer than 72 hours. I believe it has only recently changed, but am only going on second hand information. If you are only in Shanghai 1 day you wont need one which is a big saving. circuitrider Posted September 1, 2015 #1558 Share Posted September 1, 2015 (edited) Not sure how good a deal this is, but we just booked it. Pacific Jewel 10 day South Pacific departing Sydney 7 Sept 2015: Inside Cabin, category ID - Quad for 1 x adult and 3 x children Cabins are located on Deck 10 Available Cabin - 10117 Total price of AUD $2588.63 Inside Cabin, category IC - Triple for 1 x adult and 2 x children Cabins are located on Deck 11 Available Cabin - 11215 Total price of AUD $2210.39 Inside Cabin, category IF - Twin for 1 x adult and 1 x children Cabins areon a guarantee basis Total price of AUD $1937.68 The twin's not a great deal, but the quad works out to under $65pp per day. That's a good price if it was in USD, but in AUD it's a steal. Oh, we also got a $200 credit with the triple, was told there's no credit for a twin (but maybe there is for a quad?). By The Bay Posted September 1, 2015 #1559 Share Posted September 1, 2015 I have just downloaded my emails and there are a few TA's offering the Cunard cruises to OZ from $65 a day, with OBC and free Grats.:D
Tara Jane Posted September 1, 2015 #1560 Share Posted September 1, 2015 Phoned the China embassy. the 72 hour thing is if flying only, doesn't apply to cruises. Don't need a visa for Hong Kong. We do need a single entry visa for shanghai at $109.50 each and she said to apply for the visa beginning of Feb. We will go into Melbourne to lodge, and should be returned by post in 4 days. Pushka Posted September 1, 2015 #1566 Share Posted September 1, 2015 You will definitely need the Itinerary with your name on it showing arrival and departure from Shanghai. And all TA's should know that. Clearly never obtained (successfully) a visa for a passenger on a cruise ship berthing in mainland China.

The same thing happened with QE2 as she aged. They were discounting like mad to try and get people on board. Sectors with lots of sea days are not as popular as those with lots of ports....but if you enjoy sea days you are a winner. I was wondering why the Auckland to HK sector is dearer per day than Brisbane to HK , and then realised that is has more port days and 2 of those are at the OPT in Circular Quay, Sydney, and that would not be cheap.
