Curious RCI Security Question

We had this happen on the Oasis. The CS found drugs in the room! They spent 2 days behind a guarded door & were escorted off at the next port!

It could be any number of things. Fight, Drugs, Vandalism, Arrest Warrant.

It's not at all unusual.

 

This is the right answer, minus the arrest warrant. The ship doesn't have authority to hold on an arrest warrant. The person was confined to their room for misbehavior on the ship. This is a standard security response and is an alternative to holding them in the ship's one or two jail cells.

Usually, the infraction wasn't bad enough, or the person isn't out of control.

I find it very disturbing that she was permitted to sail.

 

My understanding of the story was they were already at sea. When her family was not allowed to access a service they did not pay for, she called the landbased service center and threatened the shipbased worker. That's how I read it, anyway and then she complained to people about how security was watching her. I hope she is banned for life, as well. Imagine being at dinner with someone so entitled like that. :mad:

A quarantine due to illness does not usually result in security personnel outside the door.

It happened on one of mine the TA last year (2013), the ill person was combative and refused to follow instructions to remain in cabin for 3 days to let it pass and thus not infect the rest of passengers.

 

He came down with it 1 day into a 13 night TA. The guest was so ticked about it that he actually left on his own in Nassau on day 5 because he was so agitated by having to follow the quarantine rules.

 

Stupid move really, by then he would have been allowed to leave quarantine and continue on, instead he left with no refund on a 2 week vacation, worthless plane ticket back to USA from UK and had to find his own flight back to the USA from Nassau. I suppose he could have changed his UK flight to depart from Nassau. But still...

 

As I've said, it was a dramatic cruise.... with lots of memories and lots to talk about!

Heavens. Amazing that people would have that kind of money to throw around and waste. Or to be so out of control with behavior that you have to be confined to your room, spending all that money on a cruise you wouldn't get to enjoy. It's sad, really.

 

We spent a chunk of money to take this cruise. I told dh and DS no petty bickering. We even practiced "vacation good manners" at home for weeks before the trip. Yes, I even had to listen to my own instructions and learn to let the little stuff slide. Made for a great vacation.

it is NOT a jail....It is referred to as the brig. Yes, you will find all cruise ships have a brig, for either passengers or crew....if needed. Ships also carry coffins, in case a passenger decides they will not be around to finish the cruise.

 

If it involves a criminal charge, that we committed prior to boarding, we have seen (several times) passengers being gleefully greeted after clearing customs and provide a free ride to the local retention facility....actually once saw a bus being used at the pier in Galveston upon the return of a Carnival ship.....busy day for law enforcement! Much to the surprise of the returning guests. Yup, they run the manifest through the local "wanted" lists once the manifest is turned over to Homeland Security approx. 90 minutes prior to the ship's departure.

In 2010 we were on the Carnival Fantasy ship. Day before we were to get off there were some announcements that I couldn't hear about everyone getting off the next day, so I opened the door to our room and there were a bunch of security men running down the hall. They stopped about 10 rooms down, beat on the door and yelling for them to open the door. Security opened that door and stormed in. At that point I thought Oh my, better shut my door looks like trouble. Later we decided to leave and we saw them guarding the door, for the rest of the cruise. We heard through grapevine it was domestic abuse, which who knows. I do know a very large man was escorted off early the next morning by a couple of men, saw that.

We had that happen on Enchantment. The people were quarantined due to illness. After our young son asked the security officer if he could bring the guard lunch because he had to sit there all day, they loosened up and told us that the people inside had a stomach illness and they could not risk it spreading. There were there the entire cruise.
