Obsessing over a Guarantee

Yes, I know guarantees can be assigned any time from when you book, up until you arrive at the pier.

My question is, now that it is less than 2 weeks until we sail, is there anyone else out there who obsessively checks their personalizer multiple times a day to see if a cabin has been assigned yet? :D:eek:

I've only booked a guarantee once, and yes I was always checking to see if my room had been assigned. I think I got my room assigned about a month prior to cruise, but some report not getting their assignment until they arrive at the pier.

I did not expect anything more than the guarantee category I had booked, and that is exactly what I got. I was just a matter of being curious about where my room was going to be!

We have a guarantee booked for the 9/20 Coral Princess cruise. I've been checking constantly it feels like :)

Meanwhile, I noticed that Costco Travel has Ocean and Balconies for our cruise listed at $199 now - significantly cheaper than Princess.com. :what: Dur!

Your cruise is likely past final payment date. After that date passes they tend to discount the remaining cabins heavily. Many people who are retired or who can make plans to cruise at the drop of a hat take advantage of these reduced rates regularly. Someday I hope to be among that group. :)

We had a gty for Hawaii in 2012. Booked the lowest category balcony all the way forward on deck 8. Ended up slightly mid-forward on deck 12. We were very pleased.

YES. I checked compulsively over and over wondering when we would be assigned a cabin.

I had a guarantee for the Sept 20 cruise, day before yesterday at 2pm I did not have a cabin at 230pm I had a cabin. I check all the booked cruises several times a day, primarily to see any price has dropped.

That is the cruise we are on. :) Sept 20 on the CB. We have a guarantee mini and they have been sold out for a couple of weeks now, while all other categories remain open.

The suspense is killing me. Glad your wait is over. ;)

Just to make you feel better earlier this year we booked a guaranteed balcony on the golden princess. We got a phone call that all the balconies were sold out.Princess asked us if we were willing to take a full suite with picture windows. We said yes and princess sweetened the pie by refunding half our trip.

So you never know what can happen when you book a guaranteed stateroom.

The worst you can do is a Mini, perhaps a full Suite!

Whoa! That is a nice bargain IMHO.

I've got a guarantee, first one in years, but not until January. I'm sure I'll get compulsive as the days draw shorter.

I've only done two guarantees - both booked after final payment (so yes, taking advantage of those discounts!).

Last year to Hawaii on Celebrity, I ended up with a gorgeous aft balcony.

This year, on Sunday I booked an October cruise on the Caribbean Princess and got the notice today that I have a midship Caribe balcony. My first time on Princess, but I hear they're great, so yay!

I'm sure there will be a day that I get the "worst" cabin in the guaranteed category, but I think I'm ok taking my chances.

Best of luck on your assignment!

Most of the time we book a guarantee and we get an email when our cabin is assigned (updated booking confirmation). So we don't have to check the website. By the way, we have never been assigned a "bad" cabin...but I guess we are not picky. Usually what makes a cabin "bad" is being placed next to noisy people who like to slam the door each time they come and go.

We leave in 9 days. I am checking my Mini Suite GNTY about 4 times a day. UGH! It is torture. I want to be able to print out my boarding passes and not think about it. I want to look at the deck plan 20 times to see how far from everything our cabin is. How far am I going to have to walk in my pretty but uncomfortable Formal Night dress shoes. Laundry room. Casino. Which is the best route to these places from our cabin. What is below us. Above us? Will there be noise? Engine vibraton? Will the upgrade fairy visit us?

But I wouldn't say I am obsessing. ;)

My the way my husband is doing the same thing. So that is double the times one of us checks the Princess website.

SiBreeze.. We are on your cruise. No mini suite GNTY assigment yet. I guess we will all be bunking side by side in the lifeboats :)

BrandiGreg.. The mature side of me knows this. But it takes Princess a while to get around to E Mailing you. I want to find out ASAP!

Did you guys get your cabin yet? We are still waiting. :( One week from today we will be on the ship. YEAH!

I wonder if this means they over sold on the mini's and are looking for folks to move over?

For some weird reason, now when I check the personalizer I get really nervous as to what cabin number I am going to see!

We have booked guarantees a few times and most of the time we were assigned cabins well before the cruise departed. For our New Zealand / Australia cruise last year we actually booked multiple guarantees due to many price reductions and got quick assignments. On the last rebooking, we didn't find out about our cabin until we landed in Auckland 3 days before the cruise. Talk about obsessive, I was pretty much checking the CP hourly as it was unsettling to fly so far without a cabin. It didn't help that everyone else on the roll call with guarantees were assigned their cabins 7 to 14 days before the cruise, and some were given move over offers. We were fine with the cabin that was assigned, within the same mini suite category. But lesson learned, although a cabin will be assigned at some point, if you're the type of person who needs to know the exact cabin earlier, choose your cabin. That's what we do now! :)

Question:

So, if you book a guarantee and don't know what your cabin is, how late can you print your boarding paperwork and luggage tags? What would they say? Just your name, ship and voyage #? That would drive me up the walls as I am a serious planner, actually slightly neurotic planner.:D

I guess that's why I don't do the guarantee and pick my own cabin. But I'm thinking that oh maybe, what the heck, and give it a try one of these days. ;)
