Stateroom attendants dishonesty

I also want to echo that sentiment noted above. After 10 or so cruises, we have never experience any theft whatsoever. We've left electronics, cash, and casino chips lying about the room and nothing has ever been taken.

 

I think the scenario referenced above is possible, that he found the can in you room and put it in the fridge for you.

 

But this still does not explain the 9.50 charge that was credited.

I don't think anyone that posted a response has "flamed" the OP. His initial post was extremely vague and resulted in many questions and assumptions.:confused:

It happened to us once also in a celebrity ship that beverages from the minibar were charged to us but we did not consume them. Since then, I always check the minibar to see if it has all the items, that the price list indicates. Many times items were missing at the beguinning of the cruise, so we have called the atention of the room attendant to this fact. After informing the room attendants, that the items were missing and that we do not consume items from the minibar, we did not have any problem.

I'm not sure why I'm not making sense.. Yes a drink could have been his but I was billed and $9.50 for something/s I didn't use and have the evidence to back this up. It seemed to me one heck of a coincidence that a drink was left in the fridge and I was billed.

 

As this was my first cruise I assumed it was usual to leave the drinks from the minibar in the cabin for his ease to put back at the end. I did ask for it to be emptied but he just moved them to the shelves etc.

I'm not attributing it to dishonesty but a few times I've been charged minibar items that were not consumed. Mistake? It was always taken off by celebrity without too much fuss. It's a pain though when you notice it in that final bill or there are charges on your credit card when you get home that you didn't authorize.

I had asked for the fridge to be emptied as had no intention to drink from it and just wanted to store extra water as I drink a lot of it.

 

If the fridge was emptied and I quote. Where did the soda come from ?

The fridge was not completely emptied.. Some times remained and some were put on shelves.. I assumed this was normal practice, despite my request.

Had they come to do the minibar inventory since it was the last day? I don't recall that (does the room steward do it or someone else?). I moved stuff around to keep some cream for my coffee in the fridge and I was not charged for anything.

 

Are you SURE whoever you were traveling with did not open the can? When we traveled with my in-laws (who never traveled much), it was a new experience for them to know that anything you see in the room was NOT free - we learned that the hard way when my fil thought they were oh so generous to leave all these goodies on the dresser for him!

I'm flaming him (in my head) because he seems to have jumped to conclusions, and acted punitively.

 

On our first cruise we noticed towards the end of the 10 days, that someone had taken all the miniatures, opened them - apparently drunk most of it, and then refilled and capped them. Did we suspect our Attendant? NO - we suspected the passengers who had been in that stateroom before us? Stuff happens.

The op has changed what has happened a couple of times. First they asked that the fridge be emptied, but they say later that items were left in it, and other items were placed on a shelf? In my 10 plus cruises on Celebrity, the fridge was always locked the night before departure, plus we have NEVER had a problem with the cabin stewards. This whole situation is very confusing and vague. The problem, I think, lies with their handling of whatever strange incident they are trying to describe. I still can't come up with a $9.50 charge, although I've used the items in the frig on several occasions.

I've not changed at all, perhaps I was not clear in my opening post for which I apologise for.

 

For clarity. I asked for the fridge to be cleared on the first day so I could put water in e fridge plus I knew I wouldn't use any of the items. He left some items in the fridge and put some on the shelves, I thought this was standard practice.

This is all kind a silly! I, and many others have had false minibar charges. All you have to do is contact the desk, and an adjustment is made. I do have to say, that it has happened to me more often on cruise ships than hotels...and I have no idea why. To be honest, I wish they would remove the minibars, as I never pay those over inflated prices for drinks.

$9.50 for a can of club soda? I've paid less for a mini carafe of wine when they were offered by Celebrity.

Just my opinion and personality but I would never stiff anyone out of 100 dollars or so for a 2 dollar can of coke.

 

I would have deducted 2 bucks from his tip. To make a major issue out of such a trivial amount of money would cause me more stress than it's worth particularly when you are on vacation and trying to relax.

 

I also wouldn't want to be responsible for getting anyone fired over basically nothing. It takes all kinds though and some kinds are best to avoid.

IMHO I believe that the OP is having some fun. Just too many "facts" don't add up. First,$9.50 is not the correct price for a soda taken from the mini fridge. Second, when one asks for the drinks to be removed they are normally placed under the bed. Third, ant stateroom attendant would have removed the can from the room since they do the cleaning. Possible perhaps but highly unlikely to have happened.

Before this thread gets shut down, I would just like to say that I have never encountered a dishonest cabin attendant and I've been on a few Celebrity cruises. I too leave electronics, cameras, and money about. Never had a problem with the mini bar either. And certainly never saw a can of club soda being charged out at $9.50. Sorry, but in my opinion, that statement blows a hole in the veracity of this claim.
