Explorer of the seas - refurbishment

Recommended Posts

There are no plans for a Park Cafe in any Voyager or Freedom class ship.

We were just on Independence and the Café Promenade had lots of nice options to choose from to eat. I realize it isn't a Park Café (like we had on Allure) but it is very nice. I totally loved the shrimp rolls, and the chicken wraps.....along with the cheese cake lollipops and chocolate chip cookies.

If they just added the Park Cafe breakfast and lunch offerings to Cafe Promenade, and kept the almost 24 hour access, it would be perfect for us.

We sailed on the Explorer two weeks ago and attended a Crown and Anchor reception where Captain MacDonald gave a brief talk explaining some of the refit plans.

There will be about 64 new cabins added to the 12th deck -- I believe he used the term "panoramic". As far as I can tell, the only way to accomplish the addition would be to seriously curtail the walking track -- a pity for those of us who enjoy a little exercise before tucking in to yet another meal.

He also mentioned a flowrider and one or two new dining venues. The work will be done in Spain, and the ship will remain overseas, eventually sailing to Asia and Dubai.

Explorer is in serous need of some major cosmetic work -- the carpets in the dining room are worn and lifting in spots, some of the chairs are worn through, and the toilet in our cabin stopped working twice during the 5 night cruise.

Yep, if you look on deck plans for 12, that's exactly what's happening. The jogging track seems to dead-end on either side now, which should lead to an interesting bottleneck at either end.

We had to call on our toilet more days than not when we were on the 2/26 sailing. Really hope they do something about that. Where were you, out of curiosity? We were deck 8 aft, wondering if the issue was confined to one area or all over.

From pictures I've seen of Voyager, it looks like the jogging track now passes in front of the sky bar due to the addition of the deck 12 cabins

Was hoping to see that they were adding Sabors as they did on the Navigator

Thanks, sounds like she is will have the same treatment as the Voyager, looking forward to when she comes down under next year.

Broadly similar, but they usually add some 'surprises'/bonuses as time goes on.

They'll have had time to significantly evaluate the first two by then, plus have features from new ships to assess as well.

Does anyone has experience with the new Q-category inside cabins on deck 3?

For our next sailing in November we have a Q-category on deck 6 (#6211 to be precise).

Should I change my cabin to the new ones on deck 3? Are they noisy because there are close to the Schooner bar for example?

I hope this isn't true as the two-storey nightclubs are one of my favourite things on the Voyager/Freedom class ships. I'm sailing in October and will be mighty disappointed if it's not there anymore.

Worth noting that both Voyager & Mariner have recently had their revitalization and BOTH of those kept their gothic themed nightclubs.

Also the bit on Deck 4 is just a small balcony area onto the main nightclub on Deck 3.

Got my fingers firmly crossed that 'The Chamber' is still there when I go sailing in October!

Nightclub on Voyager has been removed [emoji20] during its last dry dock. It's now located on deck 14 I think.

That's interesting, because if you go to the RCCL website and choose Voyager Deckplans, and then choose 'Deckplans from April 2015' and go to Deck 3 'The Vault' is still there...

'The Vault' is no more...

Night club will be on deck 14 in the refurbished Viking Crown/Crows Nest area, and re-named Dizzys.

Port side will have Izumi and starboard will be the Diamond Lounge (formerly 19th Hole)

Deck 14 plan
