TERESAh Posted January 27, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2015 We just received an upsale offer from Princess for balcony customers to upgrade to a minisuite for $149 per person for our 2/28 7 day Mexico cruise. I dont think we are going to take it as we don't spend a lot of time in our cabin and are happy with our balcony. What do you think?

fishywood Posted January 27, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2015 Actually a fairly reasonable upsell--for 7 day sailings on the Regal, Princess has been asking $199 to just move from a standard balcony to deluxe balcony (not a mini-suite). But for the same amount you can buy two rounds of drinks per day, or 5 or 6 bottles of wine, or the Ultimate Ship's Tour for each of you, or 1 or 2 excursions, or a couple evenings in the Casino. Or just a little more room in your cabin...

Suggestion...Contact Princess and make a counter offer and see what they'll except. I was just on a Carnival Cruise and met someone who was offered a suite for $800 and with making counter offers they agreed to $300. If you try a counter offer let us know what happens. Pam in CA Posted January 27, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 27, 2015 Princess is now offering upsells rather than free upgrades. I received two offers early last week: one for my cruise sailing last Thursday and one for my Grand cruise in three weeks. I declined both. Rare geoherb Posted January 27, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 27, 2015 I agree with declining the offer. The extra space of the mini suites doesn't make up for the lack of cover over our balcony.
LovetheSea Posted January 27, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 27, 2015 (edited) I was in a mini on the Golden. Not much different than a balcony cabin. It did have a little bath tub and a free glass of Champagne. Two TV's. One in the living room. If these are of any importance to you. We are on the same sailing. We haven't heard anything yet about our Guarantee cabin assignment. Edited January 27, 2015 by LovetheSea

I still wonder when Princess offers upsells verses upgrades because other CC members are still posting of fabulous free upgrades.
LovetheSea Posted January 27, 2015 #10 Share Posted January 27, 2015 I just looked at this sailing on the Princess website. It is showing the Balconies and Mini suites at the SAME price. $799.99 pp.
cruzsnooze Posted January 27, 2015 #11 Share Posted January 27, 2015 I would take the upsell because there is not enough comfortable seating for 2 people in a balcony. In a mini there is a sofa.
Thrak Posted January 27, 2015 #12 Share Posted January 27, 2015 Princess is now offering upsells rather than free upgrades. I received two offers early last week: one for my cruise sailing last Thursday and one for my Grand cruise in three weeks. I declined both. That depends on the cruise. We're booked on a shortie 4-day getaway cruise leaving next Monday. The ship is underbooked. We just got a free upgrade from a Lido inside to a Caribe Premium Balcony. It can happen. For you Pam, Princess probably figures they have you so totally in the bag they may never offer you an upgrade. Rather sad if that's actually the case. wrongwaywatson Posted January 27, 2015 #13 Share Posted January 27, 2015 We actually received a free upgrade from a BF Balcony to a Mini-Suite Guarantee! This is or the 3/28 Crown sailing. So, they are still offering some free ones.
TERESAh Posted January 27, 2015 Author #14 Share Posted January 27, 2015 Thanks for your responses. I think we'll pass and see if we get a free upgrade. We have been in a suite before and it was nice but we're just not in our cabin that much. Also a lot of the mini suites are on deck 8 just over the lounges and theater. Dave.ca Posted January 27, 2015 #15 Share Posted January 27, 2015 How soon before sailing are they typically offering upsells? (I've given up on ever receiving a substantial free upgrade after 10 cruises with Princess).

(I've given up on ever receiving a substantial free upgrade after 10 cruises with Princess). We have actually gotten our free upgrade a couple times upon arrival. Once it was from an inside to a balcony. Another time it was from a obstructed view to a mini suite. Nice little surprise! :D
Coveguy4 Posted January 27, 2015 #17 Share Posted January 27, 2015 I was offered an upsell from a balcony to full suite on my last cruise. I turned it down only because we had 3 connecting balconys as a family outing together. A friend who decided to join us was upgraded from a mini to the vista suite at the dock. So if no one takes the upsell, they do bestow a Free Upgrade which was a terrific treat for them as they had never experenced the Suite Life on Princess before!
