Millennium Review

We have just sailed on Millennium to Singapore and Far East.

We had a wonderful adventure and will be keen to go East again.

We had seen some poor reviews about the ship prior to the trip but as always we went with an open mind. Our glass is always half full and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole cruise experience.

The Olympic restaurant was beautiful and Quisine is a fabulous space - both wonderful dining experiences.

Having said that...

It is time for Millennium to have some good solid overhaul maintenance which cannot be done on port days during cruises. She is also a sad sister for the Solstice class glitz and glamour but we do love the ambience and old style feel of the ship so we had a lovely time.

I know that she has been 'solsticised' but now need to either sell or more work is needed.

Some observations:- Sunbeds lacked the solstice comfort

many balconys needed painting and sliding french doors are old and creaky and difficult to operate

I hear that the ship is for sale so the company will not really want a major spend at this time.

My advice to anyone who has booked or has an upcoming cruise booked on Millennium to please not worry - we had no major concerns that in any way spoiled our cruise but yes we acknowledge that action is needed.

Nice little review. Hopefully, Millennium will have some dry dock time soon. As for her being sold any time soon, I hope not! I have cruise booked on her in 2016!

And I'm on the same cruise with Kevin - so let's hope she doesn't get sold until after our cruise!!! However the only down side to her being for sale is that it will be unlikely that X will spend too much to keep her in the highest shape - let's hope things don't really start to slide down hill.

Thanks for your comments. We will be on in April....thought it was great the first time we were on. Heard similar comments about the Infinity and found it just fine as well....perhaps not the most updated of décor but everything was well-maintained. I hope that is true for the Millie.

There are no listings for a cruise for Millennium from April 27, 2016 to May 12, 2016. So either it's a charter going on then or perhaps a short stay in dry dock.

Do hope it's a dry dock :). Up for sale , hopefully not before we sail on her - want my FV in Asia :(.

Am on January 17 and January 31, 2016 B2B. How was the Sea and weather? Been seeing that Force 7 gails in Sth China Sea this last week so little concerned.

The sea was mostly calm, a little movement on the last 2 days but nothing to speak about. Weather was really very good. Very hot on many days with very high humidity. It rained going out to Bali both days but only for a short time. Its coming toward the end of the rainy season so a bit hit and miss. Our 1st day was v hot and sunny, days 2 and 3 showers and hot, then very hot and sunny for the remainder of the cruise, last 2 days in Singapore were hot but cloudy with rain and glorious balmy evenings

We are on for 44 days disembarking Apr 26, 2016. I do hope we are not on the 3 last cruises before a drydock!:(

There was some balcony painting and hand rails varnish being carried out on port days but it was not alarming at all. Our stateroom curtain had a tear in it and it was replaced with no comment from us. Our balcony door was a bit tricky to operate but as I have said nothing affected the enjoyment of the ship or the cruise. The food and service was fantastic but Yes she does need a little attention generally.

We are not the type of people to go picking fault, pleased to be cruising and as long as we feel we have had value for money we are happy.

We prefer to concentrate on all the good points like the fantastic decoration inside all the public areas, great martini bar and casino, fabulous Olympic and Quisine etc etc.

A fellow passenger told us that Century had been sold and Millennium was for sale

Century stays '' in the family''= upon arrival in Singapore 19thApril, she will be handed over to SkySea Cruises, a joint venture between RCCL, C_TRIP and local investors. Will become the ''first'' ship for that new venture and operate in the Chinese/Asia market. There are suggestions that, should the initial operations meet expectation$$$ (),future expansion of the fleet will consist of ships already in the area. Millie, although sailing there seasonnally, is on the list. So would Mariner of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas. already homeported there year-round for RCL.

Interesting, thanks. I'm surprised RCCL is not selling Legend of the Seas which used to be based in Singapore. Only truly substandard ship we've ever sailed. (Perhaps it's not up to specs of the potential buyers?) The Millie is truly fantastic in comparison. I like the M class ships.

Totally agree with THE MOMMY's comments on the Millennium.

We didn't find any major problems with the ship during our 14 days at sea.

Dining room food and service were excellent. Stateroom attendants were great. Entertainment were good enough for us too. The Millennium deserves

at least a 4 stars plus rating.

I am only guessing but it would seem possible that the Millennium Class ships will be phased out around the time of the delivery of the new Edge Class of ships - the first in 2018 and the second in 2020. The new ships are reportedly smaller than the current Solstice Class so seems like they may be positioned into Milly territory. Its always possible they might keep the older class on but by then Millennium et al will be heading on towards being 20 years old, ancient (rightly or wrongly) by the standards of modern cruising.

Currently we have four cruises booked on the Mille - two B2Bs - so we hope they keep the Mille around for at least another year :D

Iluvcruising2 - we keep running into each other on all the various forums. Loving your videos. Keep them coming.

We finished our cruise on Sunday in HGK.

I am not sure what class your cabin was (I am not even going to call it a stateroom) but we had an OV. We felt we were in a sardine can.

We've sailed on Century, Summit & Equinox & found this ship to be the least attractive than them all. Like everyone mentioned it is need of refit, the cabin soft furnishings were very tired & quite off putting actually. I realise that a refurb is expensive & difficult, but I do feel that if the ship had nice sculptures & even potted plants or flowers it would improve the overall ambience of the ship.

We were not happy with the service, as were many of the cruises.

If I hadn't been on Celebrity in the past, I wouldn't be a returning customer.

Yesterday, we met someone who was on a cruise in HGK & she told us, that after many cruises with Celebrity, she is not returning after what she called "the worst cruise ever".

I will say that the entertainment was very good & the food very tasty, but never hot enough. Overall service was very poor. We were a group of 8 & we sat for more than half an hour & no one came to serve us. I think that with so many people with free drinks packages, they were not looking to find us.

Hopefully with these comments from customers the service will improve.

The itinerary was great & they handled the Vietnamese Visas very easily.

What needs to be done pre-cruise in regard to Vietnam Visa ?

Depending upon country of origin, Vietnam has changed fees and paperwork requirements for this year. We will need separate passport photos and a copy of the primary page of our passport in addition to the application.

In looking around on CC I have found it interesting that the fees and paperwork involved seem to be different depending upon the cruise line.
