Taking wine on board at FLL

A few years ago we were on a long cruise and took a case onboard.:) We were able to tag it and it arrived safely in our cabin...those days are over. :(

You will have to present yourself and your wine personally prior to boarding. It will be tagged, others will be able to tell you if the corkage fee is directly applied to your account at that time. Seems procedure changes at times.

You will each be allowed to bring one bottle with no fee attached onboard. Best you carry it on and not place it in your luggage as luggage is scanned and you might be called to claim your luggage:eek:

We are on a 19 night cruise in a week. We plan on paying the corkage but need to know can we put a luggage tag on it and leave with our bags or do we have to carry it on board?

Wine must be in Carry-on luggage now.

Hi!

We just finished a B2B on the Nieuw March 29th. While cking in if you have wine which we had in carry on which consisted of the 6 pak totes from grocery store which we slung over our carry on bags, we were escorted over to a steward who placed stickers on our bottles, and wrote up our amount on a pink slip which had our room number and name to charge us. Also you had to carry them on. You might want to ck ship services prior to see if they allow it in baggage. I think not, but check.

Also POA who lives in FLL, knows his wines and also finished several cruises on the Nieuw who also brings his excellent wines on board, who might have some more knowledge.

PS,

Enjoy your cruise

ALL wine must be carried on by you.

You are only allowed 750 ml bottles. Two bottles you will not be charged the corkage fee. However, if you decide to take either of those bottles to the dining room or to a lounge/bar, then you will be charged the corkage fee.

The corkage fees are added onto your shipboard account.

Does everyone, even those with only 2 bottles (1 ea. 2 per cabin) get an escort over to the steward at the charge table? Do the 2 free bottles get stickers also?

Once wine is detected by the scanner, you are directed to the corkage fee table. Once you show only two bottles, you are free to proceed.

Yes.

They will sticker your 2 free bottles. It allows the stewards when boarding the ship that they have been cleared. We had to put them through their X-ray with our carry on bags.

Does HAL mark the fee free ones? On Princess they marked the ones that had corkage paid.

They did last fall. (Nieuw Amsterdam out of Port Everglades.)

There's a different sticker for corkage-paid wine.

Hi Boytjie,

Yes! What the steward will do is write down your name, room number, and place your stickers on the two free bottles and on the pink slip they show these as free no charge. So out of our 12 bottles all with stickers which were yellow it showed 2 at no charge and the 10 with a total charge to our room.

Hope that helps.

Hi POA1!

I knew you'd chime in! Learned a lot about wines from you on the Nieuw!

We stayed in the same room on the Nieuw that you had on your 3 weeks of the Caribbean! Did ours and returned on the 29th of March right before their dry dock! Love your city!

OK, so if I understand it correctly, all bottles are stickered: the two fee-free ones as well as all the rest that has a corkage fee.

On Princess they put an ink stamp on the bottles that you paid corkage for. That was a minor issue as they randomly pick the ones to stamp. I would have preferred one bottle to be marked for corkage so we could take it to dinner instead of the one that was more drink-in-cabin quality. :)

We typically pay corkage on all our wine because we take it to dinner, but when we held a bottle or two back for in room consumption, we let the check in person know which was which. Last February, the non corkage wine was stickerless. In November, it got a different sticker.

To be honest, the stickering process changed between November 16, 2014 & November 30, 2014. We were on the same ship, leaving from the same terminal. I wouldn't necessarily count on a definite procedure. (I realize that may sound like it contradicts what I wrote earlier, but procedures change. Heck, we had different stickers on different sailings.)

On bee dam they did not sticker my bottle On embarkation. They did write down cabin number and type of wine. I later decided to take it to the MDR and paid the corkage fee then. The wine steward the. Just wrote my cabin number on it. No sticker. (But I did leave it with them for storage).

So, if I pay corkage on wine when boarding, I can take it to MDR and not be charged corkage again?

Yes indeed. That's why they sticker it. Then your wine steward knows you paid.

We generally take our wine to dinner, so we prepay for the whole kit and caboodle before we board.
