Your best bet for an upgrade is to book a "guarantee" level. If you book say..an inside(many sleep 4)and you're only 2 people,Cunard may ask to upgrade you to a room that sleeps only 2 or 3 pax. A lot of pax have gotten nice upgrades that way. I think also if you spend quite a bit of $$ on board, that may entice them to upgrade you as well.

Thanks for the nice strategies to get an upgrade.:D

Hello.

I have to admit I was looseing interest in my thread, but then I read a reply from brigetteton and my interest was rekindled as I appear to have morphed into anther being.

They start by agreeing with me,I think, when they say " there is no earthly reason to mention Grills.Which is what I have surely been trying to portray.

They then say the OP, which I am sure is me,had a problem booking an inside !we have allways had a balcony.

I never mentioned closet space.I would never have used the word closet.

They also " know " that I was referring to the main pool deck ? I wish I knew who this person was,and why my lap top has suddenly started typing oddly.Must be this mysterious OP.

Rodger.

Hi foster269,

I think, if you re-read brigittetom's clever post (to which you refer above), you'll find that she is agreeing wholeheartedly with your original post in this thread.

When brigittetom says "OP" she doesn't mean you in this case, but is giving "examples" (very similar, if I may say, to some I've read here) of other threads where people reply/refer to the "OP" of that thread.

Not you in this thread.

When people are writing a review it is important that they state the grade of accommodation they have booked.

However, as brigittetom points out, it is a waste for people to post only to state that they have no relevant experience about the (Britannia grade) issue in question as they "always travel in the Grills". i.e. contributing nothing, but merely telling us that they are showing off... which, I believe, was your original point?

With all best wishes, and many happy sailings for the future :)

This is where the online practice of using (acronyms or initialisms, look it up) which confuse the innocent and cause unnecessary spats. I plead guilty by the way.

Soton, Gty, Op or Op, Lol, PG, QG, BC, WC,TA,CC, Pax. I could go on.

M Gove would not be amused.

Maybe there should be a separate Grills sub forum to the Cunard forum to avoid anyone being offended by discussion of this tier of accommodation. Some of the features might include:

- welcome bottle of champagne for new QG users (and sparkling wine for PG users)

- faster posting of replies

- special proofreader butlers for future and past Queens Grill CCers

- personalised fonts and signatures for users

- priority access to forum moderators (where operationally available)

- digital books and Atlas provided for profiles

- online Grills concierge service to handle friend requests and delete regretful posts

- sarcasm and condesension icons to indicate these reactions to other users

- online 'pillow' concierge menu that has CC forum colour gradually adjust itself to brightness levels that are conducive to sleep at night

- special firewall to prevent unworthy Britannia grade CCers from accessing the Grills sub forum.

Naturally I say all this in jest! :)

I like it, it would automatically save time going through all the posts that don't have relevance.:p

Transportation companies, have long known that offering more service to some travelers is a way to charge more money while getting a passenger from A to B with other travelers all at the same time. First and Business air travelers generally get wider seats and better meal and drinks service than economies. Some are willing to pay more for that service. Cunard has that degree of specialization too with the Grills and Britannia Club. Having traveled on QM2 and QV for fourteen trips so far, Its pretty clear to me that all passengers get pretty good treatment, Most of the facilities are open to all passengers including most bars, casino, spa, shops, library, most decks and the entertainment venues. I cannot imagine any passenger who cannot find fun and enjoyment aboard. So whether you book a Q1 or an inside cabin, all will get there at the same time, and it is more likely than not you will have a great time.

Agree, fortunate enough to fly the world Business Class for work and for leisure and pleasure mainly cruise with Cunard although like some other lines just as well too. On Cunard have experienced PG to Inside...plus dining in QG. Service meets our expectations... on cost...most at a higher than normal premium dependant on time of year, itinerary plus booking far in advance etc. We embark again in Liverpool on July 4th (our 4th in the series of Liverpool embarkations and the 3rd of the 2015 175 year special voyages) For that we DO pay a premium... and well worth it... on July 4th QM2 booked on full Cunard fare on pre-release day for what is the lowest grade inside... although I've packed my own "Porthole" with a great view. I will have great time for sure... one happy Liverpool Gal... And lucky those who have snaffled a late saver deal at a third of our outlay I really do hope they enjoy too...

We use reward points for our tickets. So I could just use double the points and go Grills. But we opt for Britannia. We don't spend all that much non-sleeping time in our cabin. We like sleeping lower in the ship. And we like the sheltered balconies close to the water where we have seen whales, dolphins, and other sea life right outside our door.

As for cabin size: I always buy a spa pass and use the Canyon Ranch facilities to shave and shower on formal nights. That gives my wife the whole cabin to get ready without me being in the way. It's like having a two bathroom-suite.

We booked another T/A (our 4th) just the other day. We again discussed PG or QG. Deck 5 sheltered won out again.

I accumulate so many points a year from work that I don't even have to pay for the grills, and I still elect to go Britannia. I'll use the saved points for something else.

I like your style are we related?

If you book a guarantee you are not "asked" to upgrade. You are allocated the grade you booked or higher grade. You don't have a say in the allocation. An upgrade could just mean a different location on the ship. An upgrade could mean a higher deck but on a transatlantic, for example, this might not be considered an upgrade by some passengers - more movement.

The Champagne served in the Queens Grill was still a rather cheap type. Nothing to write home about.

I am surprised there wasn't any verve cliquot or chandon?

Last time I got a bottle of Delmotte (I think that's how to spell it). It wasn't that bad, but as said before, it wasn't that good either.

Chandon is really cheap and nasty - hope they never serve that (unless you meant Moët and Chandon, in which case that's fine).

Would much prefer a bottle of Dom. Love Emirates for serving that on flights.

That said, Cunard probably didn't have a bottomless pit of cash to fork out hundreds on champagne for each suite.

A $50 bottle of champagne is still a step up for Pol Acker.

I think, for me, I want to know if someone is sailing in Princess or Queens Grill accommodations. Not because I am impressed or envious, but because their experiences may be unique to offerings associated with their dining venue or cabin type. In perusing the Cunard board for quite some time in anticipation of booking our first voyage, I have not found those who mention that they are traveling in a grills class status to be boastful, disdainful of others or unhelpful.

Further, whenever I post a review I like to state which stateroom type I was in, so others understand the specifics of what I am discussing.

I hope you LOVE it! The QM2 is awesome!

yes,I meant the Moet Chandon, Dom is very good but I think overpriced. Verve is still quite reasonably priced and is premium quality.:D

Basically, it was a Cunard house brand(probably made by Pol Acker)As to drinks,I usually don't. The list for vodka had standard types(Smirnov,Absolute, etc.)My partner did get Grey Goose from the Butler, which I thought was very nice.

I wonder what a bottle of Pol Acker actually costs. They just gave me two full bottles in my room!!

It was hoped you'd flush it down the toilet, thereby helping keep the plumbing clean!
