Guest phd1003 Posted July 27, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Would you still cruise with NCL if they implement a Mandatory Service charge instead of a Discretionary service charge?

redfantum Posted July 27, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 27, 2015 As I always pay the DSC it would not matter to me if it were mandatory. There are, however, other changes that may affect my sailing with NCl again.
jolgro Posted July 27, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 27, 2015 100% yes. Never would I remove the DSC. Always found hard working, friendly staff on all our cruises. So mandatory or discretionary is for me the same
Velvet Teddy Bear Posted July 27, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 27, 2015 YES... always have paid mine,,,plus some extra all around. I once sailed on a ship, there were only six of us at the table.. last night, a party of 3 were sitting at another table with one of the ships officers,,, and the couple at the table DID NOT show up at all.....I was the only one to take care of the staff. I saw one of the two taking care of our table the next morning.. I ask if any of the others came be....was told no.....I could not sail this way...even if the service wasn't good, would still do something.....that's just me... jus' me...jim...the velvet teddy bear.... sailing on Oct 4... mjkacmom Posted July 27, 2015 #14 Share Posted July 27, 2015 I'd prefer it. I wonder if the reason for the increases is based on those who remove it...
rob&tam Posted July 27, 2015 #15 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Would prefer to have it mandatory then no one is discussing it any longer
SteveH2508 Posted July 27, 2015 #16 Share Posted July 27, 2015 We always pre-pay it so it is as near as dammit mandatory anyway - it should definitely be mandatory (or included in the fare) to stop the welchers.
Rare All-ready2cruise Posted July 27, 2015 #17 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Yes, we always pre-pay our DSC and D=Daily to us so it should be MSC.
Travelling2Some Posted July 27, 2015 #18 Share Posted July 27, 2015 I have felt for years that the DSC should be mandatory. I've always felt it should be mandatory too. One of our adult kids recently sailed with a young friend who habitually behaves in a foolish, irresponsible way. The ditzy friend spent freely and did plenty of gambling in the casino). At the end of the cruise she announced that she couldn't afford to pay her bill. Her "solution" was to remove the DSC and stiff the crew. So unfair. Made me wonder how often people get away with this.
Rhea98 Posted July 27, 2015 #19 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Yes. We consider it to be part of the cruise cost. If problems arise, they are dealt with. It's never occurred to us to reduce or not pay it. Room steward gets extras as do drink tabs as well as some wait staff. We watch our money carefully but consider those as part of the "fare." DMH15 Posted July 27, 2015 #21 Share Posted July 27, 2015 I find it telling and a little amusing that all of the responses in form of posts are for YES! Add me to the list. Have never reduced and wish it was mandatory. To me, the tipping threads on Cruise Critic are the ones that are the saddest and frustrating. Love my NCL crews and I am so blessed to be able to cruise as I have.
time2cruise1 Posted July 27, 2015 #22 Share Posted July 27, 2015 As far as I am concerned it is mandatory. It should be for everyone. Without it Freestyle would be a thing of the past.
JC5240 Posted July 27, 2015 #23 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Absolutely would. As others have said, I've treated it like a mandatory charge as it is. Would never think of not doing so.
Kingmaker_inc Posted July 27, 2015 #24 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Would you still cruise with NCL if they implement a Mandatory Service charge instead of a Discretionary service charge? Of course. The whole question seems ridiculous.
Guest phd1003 Posted July 27, 2015 #25 Share Posted July 27, 2015 Of course. The whole question seems ridiculous. It's a valid question considering the amount of bickering that goes on here...Thanks for your input
