katiel53 Posted August 17, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 17, 2015 It took 6 weeks for my son and granddaughter to get theirs and 7 weeks for my daughter-in-law even though all were sent in at the same time. They applied in early May for a cruise the end of July.
ready2cruzagain Posted August 17, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 17, 2015 From what I have been reading it is taking about 7 - 8 weeks for passports right now. I read that they were having technical issues with the computers. Going to get mine sent in soon just in case they are taking this long.

crazycruzer68 Posted August 17, 2015 Author #6 Share Posted August 17, 2015 I applied for a renewal on June 6th and received my passport mid July. Is it faster to get renewals than first time passports?
wenderbender Posted August 17, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 17, 2015 I think that it is supposed to take the same amount of time. I wouldn't be surprised if a first time application took a little bit longer though.
7upp Posted August 17, 2015 #8 Share Posted August 17, 2015 If you go in person and present good cause and pay for expedited passport, you can get one quick.
riffatsea Posted August 17, 2015 #9 Share Posted August 17, 2015 Do you need a passport for your cruise?? If it starts and ends in the USA you don't need one. The expedited service works pretty well in the shorter time mentioned.
Mr2Scents Posted August 17, 2015 #10 Share Posted August 17, 2015 Mine expired in March and I have two trips planned, one starting Friday. I mailed my renewal application on July 5th. I received my new passport (standard service) by the end of July. Did not pay for any expedited service. You should be fine.

BaseballMomof4 Posted August 17, 2015 #12 Share Posted August 17, 2015 We renewed my son's passport in June and it took just over 7 weeks. No quick turn around this time.
airboss Posted August 17, 2015 #13 Share Posted August 17, 2015 (edited) 18 days from mailing to receipt of passports for 2 minors (first application). This was late June to July with Standard processing times/fees. Paperwork was prepared online, printed, and brought to a USPS location for completion. DocF Posted August 17, 2015 #14 Share Posted August 17, 2015 Most of the time these days, the turn around is less than three weeks. It can be more, it can be less, but that is about what most folks see.
DebJ14 Posted August 17, 2015 #15 Share Posted August 17, 2015 If you applied, but have not yet received your passport you might want to check this out and make the call. Important Notice to Applicants Due to high volume and systems issues, approximately 3.8% of passport applications received between June 5 and July 15 are experiencing processing times beyond the normal 4-6 week timeframe for routine applications. If you applied for your passport before July 1 and have not received it, and you are traveling in the next 2 weeks, please contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 for assistance. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working hard to process all passport applications within the stated timeframes.

Rare sparks1093 Posted August 17, 2015 #17 Share Posted August 17, 2015 We have a last minute add on to our Oct. 4th cruise. Any chance of getting a new passport before then? There is a thread over on the First Time Cruiser's board titled "for those curious about passport turnaround times" that you can check for some up to date information. I think if he applied now he would probably receive it before 10/4 and if he pays for expedited processing almost assuredly will have it before than. luvscruising2007 Posted August 17, 2015 #18 Share Posted August 17, 2015 DH received his renewed passport in 6 weeks + 2 days. It was sent to the Philadelphia passport center. I personally believe that where the passport is routed has an impact on turn around time. So, my advice is to believe the 4-6 week turn around and plan accordingly. If it were me, I would apply with expedited service. Good luck and I hope he gets the passport before you cruise.
mandymae Posted August 20, 2015 #19 Share Posted August 20, 2015 Use Travisa.com it costs more but guarantees that you'll get your passport in time. Maximum time to get it is 3-10 business days.
Rare Keith1010 Posted August 20, 2015 #20 Share Posted August 20, 2015 Unless something goes totally wrong you'll have your passport in plenty of time. I pay the extra fee to expedite it whether or not we really needed too and also have it sent express mail back to me. Keith
Canugess Posted August 20, 2015 #21 Share Posted August 20, 2015 You don't say where you live, but on the off chance you are UK based. I renewed mine online in June and they were back within two weeks. Much quicker if you are just renewing and don't have to send off documents it can be quite quick. Krazy Kruizers Posted August 20, 2015 #22 Share Posted August 20, 2015 When it was time for us to renew our passports, we sent them in on the same date. I got my new one in 2 weeks. DH got his new one in 6 weeks. Can't predict what will happen.
SteadyBetty Posted August 20, 2015 #23 Share Posted August 20, 2015 I applied June 25, I received August 13: 7 weeks to the day.
luvscruising2007 Posted August 22, 2015 #24 Share Posted August 22, 2015 Sent my renewal application in on July 24. I received my new passport today. Almost exactly 4 weeks. DH's on the other hand took over 6 weeks. His was mailed in in June. June to July seems like a busier time.
