I am so upset I have called aarp and got transfered five times... and no one can answer my question.... so I know someone on cruise critic will be able to help me.. thank you ... I want to know where online you go to purchase or see if they have any to purchase for the carnival cards that you get 10% discount on if you buy through aarp....Thank you so very much for any help you can give me... thank you thank you:confused:

No where that I know of, you have to redeem some points for the cards.....

 

 

Unless you go to Carnival and buy that at no discount......

People who have purchased them state you have to use your aarp points to get the discount. See post number 3 on that thread. The Verizon ones are the same way--you have to use your reward points to get the discount.

Hi

 

You have to redeem some reward points to purchase the discounted cards. Using the above link, click on " redeem points " then you will see a heading for " travel " and a subheading " travel gift cards"

It's quite easy to use the cards when paying off a cruise either online or on the phone.

 

And when you are on board a ship, the only place to use them is at guest services, where they will apply the cards $ amount to your S&S account.

 

But the OP will have to redeem either AARP "points for good" or Verizon Wireless points to purchase these gift cards at the 10% discount.

You can call aarp all you want to, it will get you no where. You need to go through the Rewards for Good program. As others stated, go to aarp main page, click rewards for good at the top, log in if not logged in, click redeem points, click travel, then click gift cards. If they are available they will be there.

 

You have to redeem your points to get the cards at a discount.

Redeeming the points is How you get the discount.

Good luck! I hope you can snag a few of them to save some $$. I bought one of the Verizon ones a couple weeks ago...paid $450 for a $500 gift card. That's a pretty good deal, especially if I combine it with a great casino offer where I get free drinks and then add on my shareholder onboard credit. Every little bit helps!

Getting the points on AARP really isn't a big deal. You just have to take some quizzes. I like Verizon more because I don't have to take quizzes. :D I've got some thru both, and they work great. I paid about $3000 on our b2b cruise, paid for excursions, and have about $650 to put down on board. Wish it was tomorrow but I have to wait u tip April. :)

Hi Casper! You may already know this as you're not a newbie like me. Something I learned from reading posts here on C.C. It worked amazingly well when I was on the phone with the multiple Carnival reps.for 3 hours straight trying to get flight info when their new flight system was being implemented a couple weeks ago. I was so stressed and exhausted and I just kept repeating to myself.."1st world problems, 1st world problems, 1st world problems"..It worked amazingly well for me. So now I plan on using it all the time to remind me to keep things in perspective. Hope you're feeling better and have awesome rest of the day!

You should subscribe to the AARP card thread to increase your chances of scoring a few cards. CC members are very good about letting everyone know when the cards become available. This always seems to happen after they get a few cards for themselves.

The "best" deal to be on the look out for, is a repeat through Barclay Card and Carnival, that offered 20% $500 cards with $100 off last year around Thanksgiving.

 

I thought you bought the $500 card and got a bonus $100 card? Not paid $400 for a $500 card.
