Vision - will I be bored?

I just got off the Oasis and now anticipating my January 2016 cruise on Vision. After being on the Oasis and all of their wonderful entertainment, will I be bored in the evenings on the Vision?

Quantity is not quality but it indeed depends on what you expect from a cruise vacation.

When in January are you sailing on the Vision? I can't give any opinions about the entertainment venues as we are sailing on her for the first time in January also. I have been on the smaller RCCL ships and have never been bored. It's all subjective though, just like food.

I love the smaller ships. I have to admit, when we did Oasis there were so many problems that I can say it was one of our least favorite cruises. It seemed like no one cared, very impersonal. The staff was always rushing off to the next activity. Other than the shows we booked, and we booked them all, there was little else to do. The venues like boardwalk and central park were just areas to walk through. We had such a hard time finding seating in Park Cafe.

We got off the Oasis in September and we couldn't of had more fun. We are going on the Vision of the Seas in April. My wife got talked into cruising on the Vision by a friend.

 

I'm excited to experience a smaller ship to see the difference. From what I have read, many people like the smaller ships because the staff gives better service. Plus, smaller ships usually has more port stops. But, I must admit, I doubt it will as great as the Oasis of the Seas.

Easy ship is different. I'm never "bored" at home, with no production show....your mileage may vary!

I sailed on the Liberty three weeks after being on the Allure and definitely felt the difference; the ships were so similar that all I noticed were the things that Liberty didn't have. Then three months later I was on the Jewel and loved it because it was so very different. There is something unique about every class of ships, something to love about every ship. I am certain you will thoroughly enjoy the Vision for those reasons. BTW, the next time I was on the Liberty (15 months later) I loved it, too, since the comparisons weren't so fresh in my mind.

Although some ships have more bells and whistles, ANY ship is still a cruise ship and exists primarily to entertain its passengers on vacation. No one will be on the rock wall/ flow rider/ zipline, etc. all day and all night, but as another poster said you know what you like and only you will know if you will be bored or not. Personally, I think you will find plenty to do! :)

We just got of the 9 night on the Vision. Based on age demographics and what they catered to, we were bored. We don't do shows any longer, but did watch the magician who was good. The disco was basically empty each night. The lounges that had music were geared toward a older generation than what I am. If you like to ballroom dance or salsa dance you will be OK.

 

Don't blast me for having an opinion. But this just wasn't my favorite cruise.

It also depends on how much you rely on the entertainment, and what impressed you about the Oasis.

 

I realize that, for a cruise ship, the quality of shows might be excellent; however, when we were on the Oasis, my husband fell asleep during Hairspray, and I wasn't impressed with Oasis of Dreams.

 

The Legend (Vision's sister ship) was only missing a place (inside) to go at 2am for a coffee and people watching.

As many have mentioned....being bored is a personal decision. We are never bored no matter what ship we are on. We are cruising...what's not to like? ;)

 

That being said, IMHO (and everyone has one ) we liked the Oasis least of all. We are in the "small ship lovers" group. Our favorite being the Radiance series...not too big...not too small. But also have loved the Vision class, and still miss the even smaller sweet little Monarch when she was home ported here. We had the best of times with the best of crew on board the little ship! :D

 

We booked Oasis again, simply because we are losing our beloved Freedom here in PC, and Oasis is taking her place. We really did like the shows and the specialty restaurants, but still prefer to book smaller ships. OK to mix it up though.

I primarily sail on the Oasis and Freedom class ships but have enjoyed several cruises on the Vision. Never bored on any ship and never felt like I was missing something while on the Vision. Enjoy your cruise.

I enjoy the smaller ships as well. Enchantment is one of my favorites and their lounge entertainment is excellent. Music is one thing that is very important to me, where others it might be the shows. Enchantment hands down has better lounge entertainment than Vision. I love dancing in the centrum early evening.

Just off a 10 day southern on Vision, my second time on her. At least 80% of the cruisers were over 65, and except for the 70's night, and all the music in the Centrum was from the 50's and earlier. Ballroom dancing was big. There was a disco in the Viking Crown Lounge every night but it was sparsely attended.

 

I like the Vision very much. This was my second cruise on her and I would go again. But if you need more than the nightly shows in Masquerade Theatre, you might be disappointed.

 

And if you have MTD, make advance reservations!

Sounds like my kind of cruise!! :D We loved the little ship also, and would not hesitate to sail with her again!

At the same time, each ship is different so judge them for what each has offered. It is very hard for anyone to say you or will not enjoy the cruise, just board with an open mind and judge for yourself based on the service and overall cruise.

Agree...it is simply a matter of personal taste. Some are "city folks" that like the bright lights and action, some are "country folks" that don't like the big city crowds. ;) :)

I can honestly say after cruising every class in the fleet...haven't had a boring cruise yet:D

It's entirely possible you could be bored because it depends what you like for entertainment. You'll have the casino and piano bar going pretty reliably, but other than that after the nightly show there isn't a whole lot going on around the ship. If you were running from entertainment to entertainment on oasis you can forget that here. It's a much more laid back experience. It can be relaxing which has its own benefits. try it and see; I just think a lot of people kind of mislead around here trying to play up the brand when the smaller ships definitely do not have the Wow or entertainment of the larger ships.

Ultimately, no one knows if you will be bored except you! Seriously though, if you can get bored on a cruise, maybe cruising isn't for you? Just a thought....

 

We are just off the Oasis, and while the shows were great, so are the shows on the Vision. As a couple in our early 40's with a teenager we find plenty to do on any ship. We prefer the smaller ships because of the intimacy of venue... the "family" feel between crew and passengers is awesome! On the Oasis, we never saw the Officers unless it was a planned event. On the Vision, they are everywhere, interacting and getting to know the passengers. You go to one venue more than once on the Vision, and they know your name. On the Oasis, they herd you on as quick as they can, so they can get to the next customer. There are subtle and not-so-subtle differences between each ship, and of course, not everyone has the same tastes. I can tell you that each time I have been on the Vision, there was a good mix of ages and people. So obviously each cruise is different.

A fellow CC member, who happens to be Pinnacle told me once when I asked her which was her favorite ship...."Any ship that I am currently on"! She was a grand lady indeed!

 

We actually don't go to a lot of shows, and only minimal events. We are never bored though for some reason. It is what you make it. ;)
