No more cash from Casino Teller

Recommended Posts

Looks to me they are offering all these OBC specials with booking cruises and they are hoping we give it all back to them, but obviously we can just do as others say and go back to the window with new voucher and cash out. Guess there is a glitch in their new system  :D

Have friends on this ship as we speak and they had no issue getting cash from the casino cage....

Can you ask them for more details? What did they say? Were they given cash first or did they have to get a voucher?

I seen everyone at the cashier get turned down for cash, and people weren't happy. Curious how your friends convinced them.

I would talk to the Casino Mgr. and to Guest Services, as well. Get the official word on where this new "policy" is coming from, and let them know your opinion. Good luck.

To add on, maybe you can find out why some others on your sailing had to problem taking cash out. Maybe they are just going it if you have a cash account??

Please come back and let us know what you find out. Thanks

for Canadians, we can purchase obc at a rate of 10%. even adding to that a 5% fee its cheaper that the bank rate of 35%. for us, we save 20%/25% if we don't bring what we need.

win win.

Only if your booking is in Canadian though?

We have some booked in both.

I was very happy with the Casino staff on Liberty last month as a MLife Gold. They waived the 5% cash advance fee without any problem.

What I wonder now is that I became D+ with RCI on this sailing, which then allowed me to move to MLife Platinum based on RCI status. I hope this does not stop me from receiving the MLife 5% fee to be waived in the future.

Good to know. DH is on MLife.

We also have a CASH account every cruise to avoid exchange problems. That had? waived the 5% fee.

Hi again everyone.

To update on my original post, I have a cash account so no 5% was charged.

I did do as people suggested, took a $100 slot voucher, put the voucher into the machine and cashed it out without playing, then took the voucher to the cashier to get cash. The cashier was not impressed and asked if I had won that?

Wow!

I would have told her to get a supervisor so I could tell him also how I got the voucher, and how incredibly stupid and inconvenient it had been for me.

I would have also told them that I was not at all happy with the attitude and would be voicing my displeasure higher up the RCI food chain.

Currently on Anthem, had OBC from RCI BOA card. Withdrew OBC at the Cashier in the casino, they asked do you want chips or vouchers for slots. Received a"purchased" voucher, which they call it now for slots. All I did was enter the voucher in any slot machine, cashed it out without playing any money and went back to Cashier for cash, had no problem redeeming the "cash out" voucher. The 5% is waived for me.

Have no idea why they are changing their OBC policy in the casino. Thinking those that get cash rebates from Club Royal, are just taking the money and not playing it in the casino. Spoke to several CR members and their cash rebates were purchased vouchers on this cruise.

Guest Services advised me if OBC is refundable, they will give you cash, seeing is believing, used my OBC for casino playing.

Seems this new policy in the casino will now be on all ships.

OBC from VISA points is completely refundable and any unused portion can be redeemed at Guest Relations for cash the day prior to debarkation. Have been doing that for some time now.

I am very aware of the OBC process from BOA credit card.

The part that I dislike most in this post is the cashier. I do NOT want staff making faces or pulling attitude with me on a cruise.

NOT NOT NOT.

Yeah well, not sure if you remember my story about the jerk on explorer who went off on me for no valid reason because I asked a simple question about the possibility of combining the free slot pull payouts. It seems to me, in comparison of overall crew in general, a higher percentage of staff in the casino are typically less than friendly.

Hi Karen

I was also on the recent sailing and can confirm that the OP is correct

I spoke to the Revenue Manager who confirmed it as a new policy

I think it is stupid, because all I did was go to the machine immediately in front of the Cashier, put the slip in and then cash out.

Gave the new slip to the Cashier who gave me money.....Doh !!!!!!

I then told them that I was not prepared to give more of my money to such silly actions, and therefore would not be playing with my money, but would rather give it to staff as tips.

Thanks -- although there must be a compelling reason for Royal Caribbean to make the passengers jump through more hoops, it certainly doesn't translate into good customer service, does it?

So without reading all comments on this thread, bottom line you can get cash from your seapass in the form of a voucher and not pay 5% any more? Or is it still charged?

You are not charged the 5% if you have a cash type onboard account.

I am so glad OP you gave us all a heads up about this , it has saved a possible embarrassing situation in the casino if I had been unaware.

We always have a cash account and OBC in some form or another , next cruise we have $300 , part purchased and part shareholders.

At least I know what to do now to still get MY cash which we use towards extra tips.

When I told hubby what the current situation is he said his answer is no longer to pre pay the gratuities but just pay them daily once on board and let the OBC cover them.

This situation is just plain stupid and more time consuming for staff and waste of paper !.

Just wanted to add that I DO play slots in the casino but only for pennies. Each cruise I set a maximum I am prepared to throw away and when it's gone it's gone. If I receive any attitude from a member of staff in the casino I will let my thoughts be known.

I do not know what Casino Management System that RCI are using, but giving a voucher from a slot adds that passenger to the players list in the system and then the Casino Hosts are able to track all activity by that passenger.

If you bet with cash and never use your seapass card in the machine you are not in the system. This just matches up passengers getting cash advances and play and creates a statistic for analysis.

Some of these systems can be quite advanced, even making use of facial recognition technology.

I am just thinking that casino management want this system so that they can see what percentage of casino funds are staying in the casino with play and what percentage of funds are leaving the casino for the many varied uses by passengers.

Another possibility is that they could be looking at a cash advance from slot direct to the shipboard account and want to analyze or prepare for that option.

As you describe it, that system sounds fairly sophisticated. Judging from the RCI website, in its current sorry state, I'm having trouble thinking that it would work very well.

I often use my OBC to cover the daily gratuities as well as any extra gratuities rather than pay the 5% charge. For the extra gratuities I get a form from guest services to add gratuities. All you need is the person's name and their ship position, which works well for your waiters and room steward. You can also group tip which I use for the "Diamond Lounge Bar service team" or the "Concierge Lounge Bar Service Team" to cover the gratuities on the "free" drinks. I really appreciate the lounge service, but I don't like running around with money every day to give to a server every time I get a drink.
