No more cash from Casino Teller

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

I'm currently on the jewel of the seas and as of last week the casino will no longer provide you with cash if you go to the teller. They will only print you a ticket that can be used on the machines. They also won't give you table chips off your account either.

I know not everyone took cash advances out at the casino but for myself it worked great because I'm Canadian so in would buy onboard credit then when I'm on the ship I would take out the money at the casino. This meant I didn't need to carry a bunch of US cash or go to my Canadian bank and convert cash.

They said this was company wide policy. Anyone else have this experience on a royal ship since this change happened a week ago?

Haven't run into this--yet. But it seems like a dumb move. Can't you just get the printed ticket, then turn around and cash it in? Seems to me the ultimate outcome is the same - you get the cash - but it makes it a bit more inconvenient.

So walk up get casino chips, walk away and turn around and turn in for cash.Same 5% fee

Thank you OP. Thank you nolimits too. If this is the new policy, I would guess the best thing to donos get the chips from a table and then cash out the chips. Seems like extra work for the tables but that is the only other solution I can think of doing.

I got cash on the Celebrity Summit on November 20and they charged a 5% service fee.

Did you have a cash account or was it linked to a credit card? I'm trying to find out if Celebrity has the same policy as Royal for not charging the 5% if you have a cash account. I've asked over at the Celebrity board, but didn't get a response.

Currently on Anthem, had OBC from RCI BOA card. Withdrew OBC at the Cashier in the casino, they asked do you want chips or vouchers for slots. Received a"purchased" voucher, which they call it now for slots. All I did was enter the voucher in any slot machine, cashed it out without playing any money and went back to Cashier for cash, had no problem redeeming the "cash out" voucher. The 5% is waived for me.

Have no idea why they are changing their OBC policy in the casino. Thinking those that get cash rebates from Club Royal, are just taking the money and not playing it in the casino. Spoke to several CR members and their cash rebates were purchased vouchers on this cruise.

Guest Services advised me if OBC is refundable, they will give you cash, seeing is believing, used my OBC for casino playing.

Seems this new policy in the casino will now be on all ships.

Interesting.

Thanks for the info.

Hi again everyone.

To update on my original post, I have a cash account so no 5% was charged.

I did do as people suggested, took a $100 slot voucher, put the voucher into the machine and cashed it out without playing, then took the voucher to the cashier to get cash. The cashier was not impressed and asked if I had won that? I just didn't answer them and said I'd like cash. She was upset I knew a way around the rule I guess.

They also wouldn't give me table chips at the cashier, they said I would need to go to the table and get chips there.

The part that I dislike most in this post is the cashier. I do NOT want staff making faces or pulling attitude with me on a cruise.

NOT NOT NOT.

OBC from VISA points is completely refundable and any unused portion can be redeemed at Guest Relations for cash the day prior to debarkation. Have been doing that for some time now.

We've done this for years as well; however, on the Navigator in October when we tried to cash out our unused (refundable Royal Caribbean Visa) OBC at Guest Services the day before debarkation, the Guest Services rep would not give us cash. He informed us it had to be refunded back to the credit card associated with our onboard account. We went back later and talked to a different person and again tried to cash out, but he also would not give us cash indicating that refundable OBC had to be credited back to our credit card.

A couple of days after we got home, the OBC was refunded back to our credit card. The downside: it was our Royal Caribbean Visa, so the refund diminished our RCCL Visa points balance on the account.

Have friends on this ship as we speak and they had no issue getting cash from the casino cage....

Haven't cruised Royal since last year...we are true gold card members through M Casinos in Vegas and true diamonds on Royal. It was we could get cash at the casino from our account with no fee. Is this still true or have they changed that?

I would NEVER pay 5% to get cash...bring what you need! If it's unused OBC..use it!

They certainly won't charge a percentage to cash out your winnings....at least, I hope! That would mean you're a loser, even if you win!

for Canadians, we can purchase obc at a rate of 10%. even adding to that a 5% fee its cheaper that the bank rate of 35%. for us, we save 20%/25% if we don't bring what we need.

win win.

We took cash out from our card (lots of OBC left) on next to last night without any issue (Liberty, 11-22 Nov). We weren't charged a fee

Same thing happened to me on the Jewel last week. I asked for $25, was charged $26.25 and she said she couldn't give me cash, only a voucher. I put it in a machine, won $3.75 on the first pull and cashed it out for $28.75.

I was very happy with the Casino staff on Liberty last month as a MLife Gold. They waived the 5% cash advance fee without any problem.

I always play my $100s and return to claim my winnings. The new policy does not prevent me from doing the same. I will just take my vouchers in $100s and then play my planned play and hopefully return to claim my winnings that will include my original $100 voucher. I just keep my vouchers in the stateroom safe and cash them in as I need cash later in the cruise. I often pay down my stateroom account with winnings.

What I wonder now is that I became D+ with RCI on this sailing, which then allowed me to move to MLife Platinum based on RCI status. I hope this does not stop me from receiving the MLife 5% fee to be waived in the future.
