Cagney's Fried Fisherman's Platter

Recommended Posts

It looks like those frozen calamari pieces they serve in the MDR and La Cucina.

I would prefer a hot plate from Long John Silvers for a fraction of the price

Glad I'm not the only one think thinks it looks like a $3.99 Long John's special. What I see there is a step above being served a fish stick  If this is indicative of the positive food reviews Escape gets...I'm a little concerned!

Wow. I just calculated what a dinner for 2 would cost us, without desert mind you. $73 whereas previously with the $30 charge (that's what it was last time we were at Cagney's) it was $60, including desert. I have no idea what a desert will cost but even if I say conservatively its $5, I'm looking at a charge of $83. That's quite a price hike right there. Glad I bought the 3 dinner package for our upcoming cruise. We paid $141 CAN (about $105 USD) for 3 dinners. Looking at the a la carte pricing, that's a steal!

Seriously? Do you have some reason to think this is the main item being ordered in specialties or something? If someone says they enjoyed the porterhouse at Cagney's, will you think they are full of it because it's a step up from a fish stick? This is one meal that I've never even seen reviewed. To consider this indicative of Escape food reviews to the point you are concerned is pretty ridiculous.

Whoa whoa whoa. It was a joke. Sort of. But I still think that plate looks like it's short a fish stick.

It does look delish!! :D

I wish this new menu was on the GEM. :)

Don...

I think the NEW menus are on the GEM starting January 2nd of this year. I guess we'll find out from the crew who's sailing now if the transition of the new menus went thru. According to NCL's website, when you go to book a reservation at a specialty restaurant, it states it's now a la carte. BUT... we all know how trustworthy NCL's website can be.

See you onboard the 22nd!!!

Does anyone else think that is crazy expensive for deep fried food and no sides?

$20 is a pretty cheap price for a seafood dish. I am from Baltimore so I know seafood. Granted it all boils down to the quality of the seafood. But if the quality is decent then $20 is a great price. It being deep fried has nothing to do with the price but more so ones personal preferences.

We have the UDP for our upcoming cruise. Hope the new menu makes it to the Spirit in April for our cruise. Looks like they brought back a lot of the food items from years past. I am quite happy. Crab cakes, oyster rockefeller (sp), lobster bisque. I can probably name a few more. Getting real excited. :D

oysters Rockefeller are back? Yahoo!:D

Ive been saying all along this a la carte was to squeeze a few more dollars out of us. I guess I won't order a salad and I will only order one side cause I refuse to give NCL more than the 30 bucks it used to cost. Don't tell us you are going a la carte to make US happy when its just a way to get a few more bucks.

Why limit yourselves to only spending 30 bucks via the a la carte method when you can buy the 3 night SDP for 59.00 and enjoy a 5 course meal with an app, soup, salad, entree, 2 sides and dessert at Cagneys that would cost 50 bucks if ordered a la carte. The a la carte pricing is for those that only wish to dine in a specialty place once or for those uneducated cruisers that do not know about the SDP.

The a la carte prices do not apply if you acquire the SDP either by promo or by purchase. Besides there are plenty people who either might not normally order desert or do not order 5 courses etc that their bill will now be less than the original $30 price.

I wonder if ala carte will result in folks (like me!) that would come in just to try the truffle fries and maybe a dessert? If so, that would be WAY less.

Me too! I'd go get some baked potato soup and a dessert and be set for the night! With the $30 coverage charge I felt obligated to order more food.

You can do that, but I expect that most people will still go there for a full meal (whatever that consists of for them). It might be a problem if most of the tables throughout the service were tied up by people just having a snack or a dessert, but I don't see that becoming an issue.

Thanks for the advice! However I usually do not need 3 specialty restaurant meals in addition to our platinum dinners and casino dinners! I usually just need 1! But if I take a longer cruise I will definitely do it your way :D

Went on an RCI cruise - New England to Canada and ate Lobster (1lb), Corn on Cob, Fries in Portland, Maine for $20. Had a Lobster Roll, Clam Chowder and Slaw in Boston at the Market for $20. Now that is a deal. Yes, it was fresh and basically all the places were the same price. Apparently it cost more on the ship to get seafood. Maybe, they will give us a discount if you buy it while at sea. LOL
