LHP Posted February 21, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2016 Just got off the Conquest. There was a Contractor I chatted with in the piano bar . Apparently, the Conquest is the first ship to get this new ventilation system that destroys Noro and other viruses AND eliminates smoke. Fingers crossed. They were still working on it when we were there..... It is a new system that hospitals and nursing homes are installing. Again...time will tell....... LaCal Posted February 21, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 21, 2016 Are they actually IN THE PROCESS OF INSTALLING IT in the Casino?? I'd be Happy for all the Non Smokers if a new system was put in that cleared the smoke

buddylover Posted February 21, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 21, 2016 wow I agree on the balcony LOL No button needed, smoking on the balcony does impact your neighbors who may be 2 feet away from your smoke...we believe this was one change that was definitely for the BEST!! Sorry!!!
GMRPHRN Posted February 21, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 21, 2016 I hope this is helps. I am on Conquest in June. I do not like how hard they make it to navigate the ship without going through the Casino. Maybe this time I'll brave a slot machine.

golfb4cruzing Posted February 21, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 21, 2016 Don't tease me. You mean I might get in the Casino without contracting lung disease? On the Conquest in April.

golfb4cruzing Posted February 21, 2016 #11 Share Posted February 21, 2016 It would solve many, not all, issues with the smoke. It would increase Casino revenue I'm thinking. I don't see the balcony smoking coming back. I've seen to make cigs go over the side and we were next to a heavy cigar smoker for a week. Zero fun. We couldn't find a time he wasn't out there. Havingfun2010 Posted February 21, 2016 #12 Share Posted February 21, 2016 Wouldn't it be just cheaper to ban all indoor smoking, and keep smoking at designated areas outside? It's a win win. The majority get to enjoy the casino, and the minority still gets a place to smoke, and Carnival saves money.

blondietink Posted February 21, 2016 #14 Share Posted February 21, 2016 (edited) A friend of mine has a patent for just such a system and has been installing it for years in hospitals, etc. around the country and around the world. It also kills legionnaire's disease. Hopefully he is the one with the contract! Edited February 21, 2016 by blondietink
dmdiver Posted February 21, 2016 #15 Share Posted February 21, 2016 There is a cigar bar in Curacao that has a fantastic ventilation system. The men went to smoke cigars, we women went in for the $5 mojitos. If the cruise ships would install the same type, the casino would be bearable. People smoking on balconies never has bothered me. I've seen people smoking on them, it just never seemed to be drifting in my direction. Now that smoking has been banned on balconies, we are much less likely to book them. Hubby & friend liked to have a drink & cigar on them back in the day. As far as allowing smoking only outdoors, that is fine if the weather is good. However, if it's raining or no shade at particular times of the day, outside doesn't work. Oh well, it's not good for you anyway - but then again, neither is over indulging in alcohol, food, etc.

You sure have this statement backwards:D They probably take in more money a night/week from smokers than the new system costs. ;)
zqvol Posted February 21, 2016 #17 Share Posted February 21, 2016 Sounds good but it is going to do nothing to NORO, which is not an air borne pathogen.

I would take anything that contractor said with quite a few grains of salt. Noro is not an airborne virus, it is spread by contact, so any anti-viral feature in an A/C system would do nothing to prevent the spread of noro. On the Triumph last week we saw people on slots wearing facemasks. It was just so wrong on several levels. Lol I felt like I was literally suffocating so left after one spin. 😷
teddybear231 Posted February 22, 2016 #24 Share Posted February 22, 2016 The virus concept sounds good, but smoking belongs outdoors. Thanks for sharing. Sometimes it's too windy to smoke outside, and I wish we could smoke on our balconies again! Maybe they could bring back the days of smoking and non-smoking rooms, or one side of the ship can have smoking balconies. I was very disappointed on our last cruise in August when I was told we couldn't smoke on the balcony or we would be charged. They should also make a cigar bar onboard. jamscckmc Posted February 22, 2016 #25 Share Posted February 22, 2016 On the Conquest in April so I'm hoping this works. I love the casino but I can barely breath in there. I never understood why Carnival doesn't have a designated nonsmoking area in the casino like other cruiselines. Even though smoke would drift over there it would be an improvement. I would think this would make everyone happy. I will take the improved ventilation as a start. Hopefully someone will come back on here and let us know if it helps.
