6 Drinks and you're out

Recommended Posts

It comes as a shot. You get the burn of the jack, and when that starts to go away a little, here comes the cinnamon! Great shot!

I sure hope the 6 drink limit isn't true. My wife and I consume way more than that on vacation...especially sea days! We always make sure to get our $$$ worth!

Typical day for us:

Mimosa or 2 with breakfast

About 10 pina coladas each while relaxing by the pool

Glass of wine while getting ready for dinner

Glass of wine with dinner

A few rum & cokes and/or beers at the bars in the evenings

Of course there will be some water in there as well. Gotta stay hydrated!

Consider a normal day on vacation

2 small wines with lunch

2/3 beers during the day

1 beer/wine/liquor while dressing for dinner

2 small wines with dinner

2 beers during evening entertainment and casino.

What section is one going to give up? :(

For our welfare, or to save a couple of beans?

Cant believe you don't start drinking until lunchtime!

Personally I love fireball but I simply can't drink it. I can have one shot and a couple lite beers and feel fine. Two hours later it hits me really hard. I can drink way more then that and be fine. Cinnamon whiskey for whatever reason just isn't good for me.

A friend said that the concentrated sugar in fireball maybe forcing my body to absorb whatever is in my system at once as a purge. I don't know if that's true but I avoid it either way.

Good to know.

Purging doesn't sound like my cup of tea.

WOW 6 drinks would not be acceptable to me....I mean that would basically be like pre paying the regular drink price....in the flyer it says " Raise a glass to big savings" This implies that they are expecting you to drink more than the price of the package...therefore enjoying a savings over the regular price of the drinks....at least this is how I interpreted it.

Now all we need to confirm is if this is true or just another story being told on CC.

Agreed. Although I dont drink a lot on land, so even if my drink on board is weak, I would probably not recognize it!! Speaking of drinks...my new favorite is a Fire Jack......1/2 Fireball, 1/2 Jack Daniels......

If available, try Jack Daniels Tennessee Fire. It has a much better taste than the syrupy/cough medicine Fireball. Serve chilled.

I have only seen that one report whom the poster said a friend told them so it's not even firsthand information. The waiver does not indicate anywhere that there is a limit and only refers to safety about the quantities consumed and the sharing of drinks.

I wouldn't take the post about bring cut off after 6 drinks seriously.

Legal-Eze. It appears that the lawyers are making sure that RCL has informed their customers.

Spookwife, rather jugemental aren't we? To declare anyone who joys some drinks (more than what you deem normal) as being stupid is a very judgy McJudgerson don't you think? For YOU perhaps that is too much, but each person is different and has a different tolerance. The prior posters drink breakdown seems rather typical for many vacationers. It is easy to hit a 6 drink daily mark, especially on sea days... And in no way to I think this 6 drink thingy is true, otherwise there would be a huge uproar! Now 6 drinks in an hour? THEN we would be talking!

Completely agree. It's my vacation and if I want to indulge more then normal..that is my prerogative. I can think of plenty of times, that I made a very late night out with hubby and easily doubled and then some on the evening set, dancing the night away. Hello...we are on vacation!

Six (6) drinks in most states means you are legally drunk and you would fail the breathalyzer device that measures alcohol in expired air as to determine the concentration of alcohol in a person's body.

Not if they are spread out over a long enough period.

Not if they are spread out over a long enough period.

From my reading of the comment (which is hearsay) about the "cut-off" after 6, there is no indication that his 6 were spread over the entire day. It's quite possible that IF it is true the person had in fact had those 6 in very short succession - enough to either appear too intoxicated to be served more OR was getting them too close together and it was suspicious that the package was being shared.

Without hearing DIRECTLY from someone who was cut off after 6 drinks, it's impossible to know from the hearsay comment the context in which that happened - if it did happen.

My guess is that anyone who orders six drinks in quick succession IS cheating/sharing. And I hope that they caught him and keel-hauled him! :D

That is not normal!

Way too little and I always remember my vacation.

Spoke has a serious issue with alcohol consumption. I'm guessing

she has a prior consumption issue and little self control.

Six drinks in one hour will get you legally drunk but the body metabolizes a standard drink every hour. You can have a drink every hour from noon to midnight, 12 drinks, and never be anywhere close to legally drunk.

I can easily do 8 - 10 drinks a day while on vacation, starting from a mimosa at breakfast to a late night glass of wine before bed. Luckily, I can hold my alcohol and it has never affected me from enjoying my vacation.

You lightweight, I'll probably have twice that per day on my next cruise and I really don't care what spookywife or anyone else thinks to be honest.

Good Lord, if I drank that much every day on vacation the cruise line wouldn't have to worry about cutting me off - I'd cut myself off. I like my scotch and will have a couple a day, but that's good enough for me. Having said that, if one drank those drinks in the space of a day, I can't see them being "drunk" and being cut off.

Well I have paid €41.30 per day for the premium on my upcoming Jewel cruise. As a bottle of Heineken cost around €5.00, I should hope that I will not be cut off after just 6.

That would mean I would be out €11.30 per day and couldn't have a drink after noon.

Like many have said. How many drinks you have is pretty much your own business.. I can totally see having six drinks over a 12 hour. Day . That does not seem out of the ordinary for many. Being on 12 cruises myself. I have seen several people cut off. And usually it's because too many drinks consumed in a short period of time. Everybody enjoys their cruise a different way..

Saw a guy complain at the service desk because the bar had cut him off.

He was a Finnish passenger (As per his loud claims) and to a Finnish person 15 drinks should be considered normal and he challenged the staff to say where there was a daily limit of 15 drinks.

In his argument he said he had them spread out since 10:30 in the morning and at the time of the complaint it was about 21:00.

I regret not being able to see his facial expression when the staff politely informed him that there is no technical limit on how many drinks in a day you can have but since 10 of these drinks had been in the last hour and many of them shots the staff were getting worried about alcohol poisoning.

He walked away after that muttering it was unfair.

Was just reading on a blog that on The Independance now you have to sign a waiver when you purchase the drinks package with someone commenting that they were refused a drink after they had 6 for there own safety. The ship is coming to Southampton soon so maybe that has something too do with it but are they really going to refuse and embarrass people after 6 drinks in one day.
