pusywillow Posted May 15, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 15, 2016 I have always wondered, just curious. Thanks Maybe because in the ocean air they would go stale quickly.
mandmcruise Posted May 15, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 15, 2016 Carnival has them on the room service menu as a side with a sandwich. I had some, they were good not stale at all.
iheartbda Posted May 15, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 15, 2016 Unless they would serve them in individual bags, chips are very susceptible to dampness and go limp. If they're not in bags but rather big serving containers, too many people hand dipping and not using tongs. Individual bags take up quite a bit of room in shipping cartons since the bags have air in them to prevent smashing them.
Rare shof515 Posted May 15, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 15, 2016 you can purchase them at the gift shop. in my all of my previous cruises, the gift shop had snacks like pringles, pretzels and other goodies.
sjn911 Posted May 15, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 15, 2016 (edited) When you have a tuna sandwich or a meatloaf sandwich or a tuna noodle casserole..these 3 items especially...potato chips are a must..I understand this question...lol and have had them in room service I recall with a BLT which was not mandatory but wonderful...lol...on our beloved Carnival. winddawn Posted May 15, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 15, 2016 Carnival used to keep a large platter of potato chips sitting out at the deli where you could have some chips with your deli sandwich. I'm not sure why they stopped serving them there, but I wish they still had them. That was probably one of their cost-cutting moves. Yes, you can get some from room service with a sandwich, but they never seem to give you many. The fact that Carnival does not serve much in the way of salty snacks seems to come up a lot on this board. A lot of people say they bring salty snacks with them on their cruise because of that. I'm one of them.
mykindaparty Posted May 15, 2016 #8 Share Posted May 15, 2016 We order them from room service and ask for double chips and then put them in a ziplock bag for later. They stay crispy that way. I for one am that person who has to have chips with sandwiches so I always get lots the first of everyday from room service.
MCFTJCH2V Posted May 15, 2016 #9 Share Posted May 15, 2016 If you mean like out at the bars and such, I always see they are concerned with all the dirty hands reaching in. And although I never think of potato chips or junk food when on board, threads like this always have my mouth watering and heading to the pantry to open a bag. RWolver672 Posted May 15, 2016 #10 Share Posted May 15, 2016 I remember on our first cruise DW and I craved something salty. On our first stop in St. Thomas, the first thing we did was hunt down a store that sold chips. We bought a big bag and brought them back on the ship with us. On our last cruise on the Splendor we went looking for chips/snacks in the gift shop and they didn't have any. :(

RuthlessBoss Posted May 15, 2016 #13 Share Posted May 15, 2016 I see it as a risk, period. Greasy hands wiping on furniture, greasy pieces on the floor to slip on, a bowl full of scrunched chips as they break up, use of tongs would hasten the chips breaking up, kids throwing chips and the list goes on. carsastic Posted May 15, 2016 #14 Share Posted May 15, 2016 I always thought it was a packing issue , they take up to much space as they need to be individuals packaged and cannot be compressed ?????
Kcruiser2014 Posted May 15, 2016 #15 Share Posted May 15, 2016 One thing RC does better. I could always get bags of chips in the sandwich area and take them back to my room. But, with price difference ... And casino offers,... I will take Carnival with just room service pretzels and chips every time.

przyk Posted May 15, 2016 #19 Share Posted May 15, 2016 What about popcorn? I like popcorn better than chips. And what about m&ms. But they would have to remove the red ones. I don't like red ones.

crusinpsychRN Posted May 15, 2016 #25 Share Posted May 15, 2016 When I get chips from room service half the time they are stale. I take my own in small bags. The popcorn is horrible. No flavor at all. Holland has really good popcorn in the old style movie theater machines.
