packman1029 Posted May 25, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2016 hey yall, Here is my predicament, and I'm not even sure if want I want is possible.... My DW and I are sailing on the Pearl out of Seattle on June 5th. We currently have an assigned cabin of 10045 wish is a "IC" inside cabin. I looked online today and now there are "IF" category rooms down on deck 4 and 5 forward, and they are $400 cheaper per person. My DW doesnt care about the rooms, so I sent my TA an email to see if NCL would let us take the cheaper rooms, let us keep our drink package, and give us the difference in OBC? Anyone know? mjkacmom Posted May 25, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 25, 2016 They won't let you downgrade, only upsell.
packman1029 Posted May 25, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted May 25, 2016 Ok, thanks for the help. There are actually some oceanview rooms that are cheaper than what we paid for the inside. Would they let me upgrade to those and give us the difference in OBC? or are we just stuck with what we have?
Into Cruising Posted May 25, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2016 since you are so close to sailing and way after final payment, they actually do not have to do anything for you.

You wouldn't be interested in swapping your inside for an oceanview unless they also give you a refund as OBC??

I know we are way past final payment so I am not expecting much. But yes, an oceanview room would be awesome if they would let us upgrade for what we have already paid. helen haywood Posted May 25, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 25, 2016 My understanding is that they will only let you "upgrade" if the cabin to which you are changing now costs more than what you paid. Even if it technically is an "upgrade" due to its status....if it is priced less than you paid they will not let you move. So you could wind up having paid more for an inside and now see that a balcony cabin is priced less than you paid. You cannot change to that cabin. I would not change cabins for two reasons: (1) Deck 4 is mostly a crew deck and very noisy. In most ports of call you will leave and re-enter on Deck 4. (2) On Deck 5 forward you could be under either the casino or the theater. With either deck that low, you will feel the movement of the ship if you happen to get into rough weather. That being said, a mini-suite is only about $150 more per person now. Do you think they would let me pay the difference and upgrade to that room? Zabetty Posted May 25, 2016 #10 Share Posted May 25, 2016 Why don't you just call them? Each interaction is different. Call the upsell line and grab the mini suite. It can't hurt to ask! Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
cruisemainiac Posted May 25, 2016 #11 Share Posted May 25, 2016 (edited) I would jump on the mini for that price. Make the call and see what they'll do. Edited May 25, 2016 by cruisemainiac Added content
dcipjr Posted May 25, 2016 #12 Share Posted May 25, 2016 The general rule of thumb, past final payment, they aren't going to give you any money back. They will gladly take more money from you, though -- so if prices drop, you should be able to get a higher-category stateroom for paying the price difference between what you paid, and what the stateroom costs now. Even this is pretty generous, in my opinion. As others have said here before, when the price goes up higher than what you paid, they don't ask you to pay more, do they? Do you think they would let me pay the difference and upgrade to that room? The minis on the Pearl are nice. You would really use the balcony on your itinerary. All the minis are on deck 11. If you do upgrade, be sure you don't get the minis that are under the kitchen galley or teen club as it can be very noisy.

I know people who have called and gotten "free" upgrades due to price drop below what was initially paid, inside to ocean view, etc. It probably depends on how badly they want to resell your current cabin. If there is a high demand for insides, they might move you up for free and resell the inside. It never hurts to ask. OP, if prices have fallen that much for balconies and minis, I think I'd just ask about an upsell to one of those. Let us know what you end up with. I bet those people you know with free upgrades weren't this close to sailing and that it was a while ago. They didn't let me do this for my 5/1 cruise...but gladly took my money to upgrade from Inside to Balcony.
sanger727 Posted May 26, 2016 #17 Share Posted May 26, 2016 If you call and ask I would just want to be very sure that you get to keep the drink package if you change rooms. I have heard several people mention losing perks when they try and change rooms and I believe that this close to sailing, a new booking would not come with perks?? Which might explain the low price.
