2 cruises on Sunshine in 2017?

We currently have a cruise booked on the Sunshine out of NYC for June, 2017 in a Grand Suite. The itinerary is San Juan, St Thomas and Grand Turk.

Well, DCL just announced their Fall 2017 itineraries this week, and their Canadian 7 night cruise caught our eye. However, it's in late October, which I think may be too cold, and costs $5,200 for an Oceanview stateroom.

That said, DH and I got to talking that we may enjoy a Canadian itinerary. The Sunshine has a sailing the week of Labor Day 2017 that goes to Boston, Portland, Halifax and Saint John.

Long story short, we can sail in the Grand Suite for the June trip, or take both cruises, each in a regular balcony stateroom for about the same price. (Or, switch to the CA sailing in a GS.) All of which, coincidentally, is only a few hundred more than the Disney cruise to CA in the OV room...

What I'm wondering is if we would enjoy sailing on the Sunshine twice within a few months. I've done a lot of research on the amenities, and it seems to be s good fit for our family, especially if DS takes to the kids club.

As far as the stateroom, I think, aside from the space, the only thing we would truly miss by downgrading from the suite would be the tub (for DS), unless there is something else I am forgetting (I would likely pay for FTTF, at least on the first sailing to see if it was worth it).

Any opinions? Thanks!

Disney makes Celebrity, Princess, and, at times, Cunard look cheap! I'd take the two on Sunshine. Don't pay extra for them having no casino and lower alcohol consumption rates than most ships.

I sailed on Splendor from NY five times in less than a year and wouldn't have stopped had they not moved to Miami.

I'm going on Sunshine on July 4 Caribbean and October 8 for the Canada cruise so I'll let you know how that goes (lol).

I'd go for the two cruises.

There is enough to do on the Sunshine that two cruises a couple months apart won't get boring.

I agree .... we just did that ... January and May in the same cabin. :) The staff on the ship was very, very good.

What we wouldn't do again is a 5 day compared with an 7 or 8 day. There was a big difference in the atmosphere on the ship between the 2. The 8 day was much more relaxed while the 5 day felt a bit frantic.

Examples of not getting bored - there are 7 different stations for lunch not to mention the Sea Day Brunch and 24 hour ice cream ... all were good. There are the water park slides for the kids, kids playing pick-up basketball, ping pong, shuffle board, poolside movies at night, and video games. Nobody looked bored to me :D

We also loved the Splendor and would love it if they moved that ship back to NYC instead of China :(

We've been sailing on the Pride last 2 cruises and we're trying the Sunshine for the first time in Sept of 2017.

We're doing the 7 day Canada cruise - love the Canada cruise, this will be my 3rd time!

I'm curious about the Sunshine - I've heard such mixed things, but there are some new things I haven't had on other ships - Ji Ji, the Cucina del Capitano and the ropes course - oh and how can I forget the Shake Shop :) So I have mixed feelings, but we have an aft wrap and I suppose that can make up for any short comings :)

BTW - OP - if you haven't done the Canada cruise before, be prepared for fog. It's best to book a cabin in the aft section, so you don't have to listen to the horn all night  - and do get the balcony. We saw whales the last time. So awesome. Probably would have missed them without the balcony. We were getting ready to do the Behind the Fun tour and I was by the side of the bed and looked out. I said, "Holy S@#t WHALES!" and we ran out on the balcony each of us half dressed!

The "new" things you mentioned are all good. Both JiJi and Cucina are open for free lunch and pay dinner.

The folks we saw on the ropes course seemed to love it.

My suggestion print out deck plans before you go and study them - not every deck goes through bow to stern. If you know that you'll be good to go.:D

I would also do the two cruises on the Sunshine. Disney won't get me on one of their ships until they have a casino, which will be never. It's a shame since they do have adult areas.

We did a b2b on Sunshine last month. Two different itineraries. One leg a spa balcony, the second, an ocean suite. Had a great time; plenty to do! Enjoyed the specialty dining on both legs! :)

Hey Cindy! I see that you cancelled the Pride repo cruise. We were looking forward to cruising with you and Jerry again.:(

Hi, y'all! Yeah, Jerry made a deal of swapping it for Sunshine out of NY (Broadway show, too :)) and an Oasis. Promises another Panama Canal, later. I'm sad, but it's ok. Hope to see y'all sometime next year! :)

Planning for Splendor, Vista and Glory S2S2S, Feb/Mar 2017. :)

Thanks all for the feedback. I am leaning towards the 2 in a balcony vs the one in a suite. Now I have to work on DH who doesn't seem to think one needs to vacation twice a year
