PAHORNER Posted June 15, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2016 Many years ago on our first cruise we met Hunky Dory, as have many of you did in the lido on the Zuiderdam. It's been a few years since we have sailed the Zuiderdam, but will be on her again soon. I know Imam was last updated on the Massadam as MD Mgr. about a year ago but when I think of the Zudy, I always think of him fondly. Was wondering if he still sails . Imam/'Hunky Dory' received a promotion from DR steward to AYWD Host, a supervisory (not managerial) position, a couple of years ago. I'll see if I can find his current assignment for you

Riversedge Posted June 15, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 15, 2016 He was on our Amazon River cruise a year ago. We had such fun with him. He is an amazing man with an unbelievable memory. He knew everyone's room number and name no matter where he saw you on the ship. He speaks 5 languages. We are hoping to see him on another cruise. I hope Holland America recognizes his talents and continues to promote him.

grsnovi Posted June 15, 2016 #6 Share Posted June 15, 2016 We sailed with him twice on Oosterdam. The second cruise (a year after the first) he remembered my wife's name (and greeted her by it when we saw him in the Lido).

ICUQT Posted June 16, 2016 #10 Share Posted June 16, 2016 We met him on Maasdam in 2014. I wish my memory was as good as his! I too met up with him on the Maasdam. I did not recognize him at first even though I read his name tag. The "Iman" threw me off. He escorted me and my wife to our table and I must have had that puzzled look in my face. Our waiter came over to the table and I asked him who he was. He gave me the name that appeared on his Iman's tag. I asked if he went by any other name and he told me. As I was leaving the MDR I stopped at the podium and he turned to me and said "yes Bob". I talked briefly to him and each night after he always greeted us warmly. IMHO I have always found him polite and courteous not only to me but to other passengers as well. He was HAL employee of the year some years back and he continues to be an ambassador for HA will his fine service. bob

Barbarafromtucson Posted August 12, 2018 #21 Share Posted August 12, 2018 Just got off HAL Niew Amsterdam...asked our dinner steward if he knew Hunky Dory and if he's still with HAL. According to him, Hunky Dory is a "legend" and he is currently on the Zandam.
sail7seas Posted August 12, 2018 #22 Share Posted August 12, 2018 He had a very 'successful "gig".. :) Haven't seen or heard of him in years. Hope he is well. Last I saw him may well have been in Lido on Zaandam.
Homosassa Posted August 12, 2018 #23 Share Posted August 12, 2018 I ran into Hunky Dory on the Zuiderdam. He was in the Lido at the time. The third day of the cruise was the first time I walked into the buffet to eat. He greeted me with a big smile and called me by another name. I corrected him. He persisted for several days in calling me by another name each time I saw him. Each time I corrected him and he would frown. He was confusing me with my sister who was also sailing. I hope he is on the Zuiderdam in Oct! He is amazing how well he remembers your name and even your preferences. Been on two cruises with him and he remembered my name from the first one. He was handling the MDR Open seating and everytime I came up to the podium he was ready for me and knew what I would want.
