gordylad Posted June 21, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted June 21, 2016 thanks as we are not sure about the weather in NY or Bermuda would you recommend late August? Is it a party ship for young people as we tend to like a sleep in?

Rare chemmo Posted June 21, 2016 #7 Share Posted June 21, 2016 We have visited NY twice and both times returned to England exhausted having tried to fit as much as possible into our stay. There are lots of inside as well as outside activities in NY so even if the weather is hot or wet you can always be busy! A city break followed by a cruise is a great combination! We have not done this itinerary on the Summit but very much enjoyed a cruise on her in the Southern Caribbean. If you cruise end of August/early September the schools, I think, will be back in so less children on board. Hopefully someone else will comment on this specific itinerary. Hope you manage to arrange a great trip!
drychi Posted June 21, 2016 #8 Share Posted June 21, 2016 My wife and I just returned on Sunday from a wonderful 7 days on Summit! Great Ship and Crew. Bermuda was as beautiful as ever. You will enjoy this cruise if you decide to take it. Happy Cruising! Bob and Linda

Hopefully someone else will comment on this specific itinerary. Hope you manage to arrange a great trip! We've done the Summit to Bermuda. Nice trip and Bermuda is outstanding and we would like to go back... It is NOT a "Typical cruise" as you leave New Jersey, have two sea days, then have three days in Bermuda, and one sea day going back. Just to comment that most schools in the immediate New York / New Jersey (and New England) region do not start until the day after Labor day. Here in Pennsylvania they start a week earlier, the Monday prior to Labor day. I would expect a reasonable number of families on any NY based sailing that ends before Labor day (if this is important to you).

firstcruiserDB Posted June 21, 2016 #13 Share Posted June 21, 2016 We sailed the Summit last year during June. It was our first Celebrity sailing, and we were sold!! We'd been on many other cruise lines, but this one just "fit". It was a great week! We probably won't go back to Bermuda (although it was beautiful), but we will return to Celebrity, that's for sure!! The Summit was a beautiful ship, the staff was wonderful, the food was spectacular, and our cabin was perfect! You'll love it!
joyefullcruiser Posted June 21, 2016 #14 Share Posted June 21, 2016 My DH and I are going to be cruising on the Summit the week of August 27, 2017. It will be our first time on a Celebrity Ship and our first time to Bermuda.

DrivesLikeMario Posted June 21, 2016 #17 Share Posted June 21, 2016 We just got back in May from the Summit. It was our first time on this ship and first time for DH doing a cruise from the East Coast. I can highly recommend it! We were welcomed so nicely by all the crew and it didn't feel as forced as it does on other cruise lines. The crew genuinely seemed to be happy and it REALLY showed. All the way until the end of the cruise when we were disembarking, we felt this way. It was quite a shock, especially on the last day when other cruise lines' crew members turn surly and just want you to leave. We were really pleased with just about everything on the ship although we didn't go to any shows, only ate in the MDR once and never swam in the pools or used the spa. We had such a great time just chilling on our huge balcony, going to the gym and relaxing that we didn't feel the need to "do everything". The casino wasn't nice to either of us, but that's the luck of the draw. One thing I would suggest if you have a late flight home, do the Manhattan Tour with airport drop-off (either EWR or JFK). It was truly one of the very best tours we have ever done. The Celebrity staff were wonderful getting us started and the tour director was fantastic. We had time to kill for our non-stop flight home and this was easily the best way to do that. It was $99 per person and you can book it onboard to use up some of your OBC if you need to do that. WEGL81 Posted June 21, 2016 #18 Share Posted June 21, 2016 Love Summit also, but was not happy at all to see they did away with those 4 water downspouts in the T-pool. What??? Tell me it isn't so. Those are my "Take my worries away" relaxation tools. I can't believe they took those away. Next you'll tell me they took away the bubble pipes. varoo Posted June 22, 2016 #20 Share Posted June 22, 2016 (edited) Love Summit! Great staff and crew. Just sorry that they are losing their wonderful Captain's Club hostess, Ashley, who got transferred to another ship, although happy for her as she got a promotion. The Summit's best southern itineraries are its Caribbean cruises that start and end in San Juan. Passengers fly right into San Juan to begin their cruise down in the calm waters of the Caribbean, eliminating any need to cruise through the sometimes rough waters along the Atlantic coast to get down there or back. XtaSea Posted June 22, 2016 #21 Share Posted June 22, 2016 The Summit is a wonderful ship...good food, good shows, good bars, good crew. We were on her in late Feb (just prior to dry dock) for a Southern Caribbean cruise, and then 12 weeks later in early May for Bermuda. We avoid travel from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and during March (spring break), thinking we'll leave those times to families with children. If that's important to you, I'd suggest taking the Bermuda cruise after Labor Day. I'm not sure when Summit re-positions back to San Juan, but the closer you get to that date, the better chance you'll have of cooler weather. And regardless of when you go, I doubt you'll find the level of partying disturbing at any time. People party (the Martini Bar can get noisy) but the Summit, regardless of itinerary, is no booze cruise. We had no trouble sleeping in several times. And as far as the water hammers (that's what we called them) in the T-Pool, they were there for our Feb cruise and we used them several times. Like a great neck and shoulder message. But they were gone when we boarded in May. What a disappointment. We never used the T-Pool at all on that cruise.
shepherdqueen Posted June 22, 2016 #22 Share Posted June 22, 2016 We booked the Summit to Bermuda for next spring. This is our first time on Celebrity, but our 4th to Bermuda. I would never go in the heart of the summer (we do not like "hot") and have always traveled spring or fall. Our last trip to Bermuda was the last of the season for NCL - and it was comfortably cool, the way we like it. A sweatshirt was needed in the evenings. pattycakes Posted June 22, 2016 #23 Share Posted June 22, 2016 Vote for Summit: Thumbs upVote for August: Thumbs down Very hot and humid that time of year. Maybe early Oct if possible? Agreed. New York and Bermuda are prone to being miserable in August (live here/cruised August more than 1x). Celebrity ends their Bermuda runs with the Labor Day cruise. However, most NY families don't vacation the week before school starts but rather the 2nd and 3rd weeks right after most summer programs end. Cruise a holic Posted June 22, 2016 #24 Share Posted June 22, 2016 (edited) Have been on the Summit multiple times. Four to Bermuda and one Caribbean. We really enjoy the ship. We also like the no fly for us and the new terminal is great and it is easy to park. The ship is very comfortable. We are going again in August, the beginning and look forward to another cruise on her. Now we will have a suite restaurant along with acess to Michael's with our sky suites . This time we are bring two sons one daughter in law and two grandchildren with us. While the weather is hot- the beach and the water are nice and warm. We do not mind the hot weather, as everything has AC and the beach is great. Only times we really felt hot was visiting the glass blowing studio near the pier and the pottery shop- Edited June 22, 2016 by Cruise a holic
