How do you carry your sign and sail card?

OMG ... yes, we have all just spent TEN PAGES debating "to use a lanyard or not." LMAO ... we all need a hobby, LOL ... oh yeah , we HAVE a hobby, reading Cruise Critic!

I carry my cell phone everywhere on the ship as it also serves as my camera :) SO I have a special cell phone case that has a couple slots I can stick my S&S card and a credit card (for port days).

I also have lanyards and have used them ... but they are so light that when I jog on the track high on the ship it's so windy I've almost had them blow away off my neck, so I much prefer to now keep them with my phone which I always have with me.

Now, if we want this post to go on ANOTHER 10 pages .... should I bring up the "Passport vs Birth Certificate" debate? Or better yet the "TO bring your Passport off the ship or leave in the safe." HAHA.

Cheers!

Jeff aka Recovery Dude

Or I could say I just carry it in my pack of smokes and blow up this whole thing hahaha...

Cards come with a hole already punched. My youngest kids have lanyards, but my teens and grown kids have wrist coils like I use. I like them because they arent in the way and also when you do have a pocket to stick your card in, the coil helps your card to stay in your pocket and also makes it easy to grab. The coil is just bulky enuf to locate quickly in your beach bag, but doesnt tangle in stuff.

Depends, around the ship I wear a Carnival lanyard I have had for a number of cruises that disconnects quickly to stick the key in the door.

I can also stick that part in my pocket when I have pockets. Don't wear the lanyard off the ship, generally have it in the pocket of my cargo shorts along with my cash/credit cards/etc.

Lanyard is betting for me so I don't misplace it, to each their own!

Wow - Holy judgemental comments, Batman!

So many people hating on the lanyards and a few on purses - why do you care???

I wear a lanyard - so sue me, or hate me - I don't care! It's a really nice one that's all blinged out. It has a ring that goes through a S&S card with a hole punched. The ring part detaches so it's easy to hand to a waiter or shop person or open the cabin door.

I don't wear it to dinner, because then I'll have a tiny purse. I don't wear it off the ship because, I have a purse for that too. JMO, but I don't think they are dorky at all ... but speaking of dorky, can we talk about those Capris? If you're laughing at my lanyard, keep in mind, I'm laughing at your Capris (they can't decide if they are a pant or shorts!) :D

Actually, unless you are doing or wearing something incredibly out of the ordinary - I. don't. CARE!

Answer to the OP - I use a lanyard!

Hey now, don't knock the capri's. You do realize, since they can't decide if they are shorts or pants, they'll make it into the dining, lol.

Anyhow, lanyard during the day, and purse for dinner with the lanyard attached to it. Easier to find, and easier not to leave behind in the slot machine.

LOL! Now that I’m Platinum I most definitely wear a lanyard. Used to think they were stupid. But they sure do come in handy at the bar. Also, I do like being able to see who is who on the cruise now though. I think it’s interesting how many people of each card level are on each cruise. It really makes you open your eyes.

Pocket or If I have no pockets just carry it. I wouldn't be caught dead in a lanyard. Just me through LOL

I agree! Nothing says "take advantage of me I'm a tourist" like the S&S card on a lanyard walking around. My kids love their lanyards though. Makes them feel like a VIP.

I seriously don't get the hate for capri's. They are more modest than shorts but still cooler than pants, can be dressed up or down and look at least as appropriate in MDR as longer men's shorts, and are often more practical than skirts or dresses.

Lanyards on others don't bother me, but I don't like the way they feel when I wear them.

Lanyard on the ship, in my pocket ashore. There, you feel better now? Many of us are required to have our work ID visible at all times while on the job. Lanyards make it easy to access secure areas, so wearing it on the ship is second nature.

You either like them or you don't I guess. I wear the knee or just below length often. I actually bought my first pair of ankle length. It's a comfort left thing too. There is no way in hell I'd wear the skinny or spandex though, hahaha.

S&S card is in my pocket or beach bag. Never understand why so many people wear lanyards on ships and those same people don't wear them on vacation at beach resorts or any hotel for that matter. Lanyards are sooo tacky in the MDR. To each their own....

I have a lanyard that has a clip at the bottom, with a string or cord that ties around the little hole in the card, allowing me to just unclip the card, and hand it over to bartenders or waiters so I am not constantly taking the whole thing off. It is super handy.

I never even knew until this thread that some considered lanyards tacky...lol I LOVE not carrying a purse for a week and I LOVE having my card super handy when I need a drink (often) and I don't think its tacky at all on a cruise ship....not to mention on the list of tacky things one sees on a cruise ship....this wouldn't make my top 100 lol

Maybe it's because on ships, that card is used for everything...cabin key, purchasing things, playing games (casino & arcade), as identification, etc. Unlike nearly every other type of vacation out there. It is constantly being swiped and some people simply find it handy to have on a lanyard. Understand now? By the way, adding "to each their own" at the end of your comment doesn't make it any less rude.

That's what ours have, a quick-release clip down near the card. Very nice to have. Actually, they're the lanyards that came with our waterproof cell phone sleeves, but we realized they were much more useful for the S&S cards. :)

One of the things I find most amusing are all of the platinum/diamond folks I've seen over the years who have said they don't use lanyards because they don't feel the need to flaunt their status, yet they begin every other post on these boards with, "I'm platinum/diamond and..."

NO I don't. Hotels and resorts all around the world require you to use a card to do the same things and you don't see people with lanyards. It would be just as convenient on land but it doesn't happen. But hey if you want to wear one in the MDR on formal night go ahead...to each there own. I use two cell phones all the time maybe I should wear one around my neck.
